We know anime has an issue with ages and all but would you say Fairy Tail has an example of ages being arbitary for the most part as cast grow older but don't seem to change at all for most part. Is this true and all?

Basically yes, though I’ve found the story’s timeline is a bit of a mess - Lucy meets Natsu on 2nd July x784, joins the guild 2 days later, and then everything up until Acnologia attacks Tenrou Island happens within the remaining 6 months of x784! Tenrou Island re-emerges in H1 of x791 and they embark on the 100 year quest in August x793 so it’s probably late x793 or early x794 by now in the story. So over 3 years should have passed for the core team. If we take Lucy’s age on joining the guild as 17 she’s probably now 20-21, Gray and Natsu are said/ implied to be about a year older, and Erza 2 years older than Lucy. So not as much time has probably passed canonically as it would seem. I think Lucy post the Tartaros Timeskip does look subtly more mature, not so sure about the others, and the big art style change in 100 year quest makes it more or less impossible to judge that.

An Edens Zero style ageing up would be interesting as long as it doesn’t become a next generations story 🤢
