Re:Creators - What if fictional characters turned real? Are they always real in a sense? Great animation, an outstanding OST and many references to real shows.

This anime is seriously fucking awesome, easily the best magical girls anime I've watched.
I didn't follow that many anime last year, but the best one I watched was easily:

Attack on Titan:Season 2
Best anime for best girl

I'm with you there. Before this there was Madoka Magica, which of course YuYuYu got many comparisons to, which was top of my list. It had tighter storytelling, and better production values than YuYuYu, but thematically and in character development, YuYuYu resonates more with me, and that's what pushes it ahead for me. (The Rebellion movie didn't help unfortunately; despite it's well written story and completely reasonable followup for Homura's character, the thematic shift left a bad taste in my mouth in comparison to the series')

While the 6 episodes of Yuusha No Shou were perhaps a tad rushed as a conclusion to the series, they wrapped up all the loose ends and gave us a solid ending to the conflict, and most importantly in my mind, were consistent with the tone and theme, even as they turned up the dial for the climactic ending. And add to that an amazing soundtrack from Okabe/MONACA (which I am so definitely picking up). I'll admit they did a lot of 'show, don't tell' which took me a rewatch or two to pick up on completely, but I'll take that anyday over big exposition dumps.
