Surprising JJK is here - must be for the manga(?).

Chose Haikyuu mainly for the intense characterisation at an individual level, and as a team bonding and growing together, in the midst of games. Maxes out this category imho.

Honestly, I don't quite understand JJKs popularity characters-wise. I like the series and the characters are fine, but only one who feels even some what special to me is Nanami. Gojou is the Kakashi of 2020. Itadori is extrovert Ichigo Kurosaki.

I do love One Piece and it's variety of characters. There certainly are a lot of characters with a lot of personality. Maybe a bit too much even. That's why most of the characters eventually feel like under developed or missed potential.

Haikyu!!' is all about the characters. It's a phenomenal series in the regard, that not a single character is bad. Not even one. Everyone feels really real. And you just really like everyone, even that one random libero from an enemy team that had like four panels of meaningful impact to the game. Not only you root for Karasuno, but you really want the "villains" to succeed too. I love it for that it feels like every team could be a protagonist of their own respective sports series. And as Brandish said, not only are the individual characters great, the interactions between them and the different group dynamics raise everything to a completely new level. And I love how there is no real villainy like often in sports series there are, but all rivalries are based on a friendly relationships that benefit both parties.

Honestly, adding the fact that Heikyu!! ended in 2020, I don't think there is any real other choice in this category. I really love my volleyball boys. All of them.
