Funny thing is that Kougyoku actually appeared in person in more chapters than Morgiana did since 2014, and had an arguably more important role.

When it comes to Magi, MAL lists all the characters as supporting except the main trio Aladdin Alibaba and Morgiana. While that may apply to the first few arcs, but now other characters have much more focus than the main trio and especially more than Morgiana. For example at one point Titus was a main character, and so was Hakuryuu last arc.


I don't MAL can be used to decided which characters are major or minor especially since these awards are only for 2014+ and not the whole series. If we use MAL then we'd have to change up a lot of the already nominated characters.


I already mentioned how I believe Kougyoku has as much right to be considered a major character as Morgiana does, but I don't mind her not being nominated because I know not a lot of members have kept up with the recent chapters where she plays a big role.

As a whole series, the manga itself that is, Kougyoku is a supporting or secondary character. Unlike the trio (or foursome if it includes Hakuryuu Ren), they will always be the main cast. In fact, even considering the trio/foursome, there are further differences in their "ranking" (so to speak). Aladdin will always be the main sole focal point among them and everyone else in the series.

In terms of subplot, in the various arc, there are another different set of cast or characters. For example, in Sindria Kingdom, the main character is Sinbad and he is the main central interest among the rest like Jafar, Masrur, etc. In Kou Empire, there are Hakuei, Kougyoku, Kouen, Koumei and Kouha.

Magi is a story illustrated as such that in different storyline, different characters are concentrated as a focal point to form the whole story. The author seems to emphasise this in such a way that she would bring her characters on stage at different times and focus fully on that particular person or the group of people as if they are the main characters.

As whether if Kougyoku is considered as a major character or not, it would depend on how deeply and fully one would like to look into the story and its various plots in order to decide. In my opinion, I'm pretty agreeable of her being part of the nominees since she is holding a major role in the Kou Empire, particularly in the recent arc (just like what @airmattress has said). However, even if she is considered as a supporting character as a whole, it is still accurate.
