I think this opening song deserves the atention and that it fits very well with that part from Naruto

I would like to nominate "DAYS" by FLOW. No matter how many series I watch, this beautiful song will forever be my favourite anime opening. Whenever I listen to it, I associate nostalgia and freedom with it, two of the most amazing feelings in the world.

Obvious first choice if obvious:

Hokuto no Ken - Ai o torimodose!! (by Crystal King)
Clearly one of the best and most epic anime openings of all times, hands down. Great lyrics, awesome tune and top-notch vocal performance by Tanaka Masayuki. Even nearly 30 years after its initial release the song still understands to shake the hearts of many long time anime fans.

Second nomination also isn't all too hard:

City Hunter - City Hunter〜Ai yo kienaide〜 (by Kohiruimaki Kaoru)
That voice, right in the feels... City Hunter had so many great theme songs back in the days but Kohiruimaki's piece still easily managed to rank above the rest of them. Add the typical City Hunter 80's atmosphere and you get just one of the most beautiful openings of all time.

Last but not least:

Honey & Clover - Dramatic (by YUKI)
Since Doraku said the video can also contribute to this category I had to think of the first opening of Honey & Clover as it's just THE most unconventional, creative and best opening I've ever seen. Beautifully done and so out of the ordinary, still loving it to death!

OK then my favorite 2012 opening is the one from tsuritama . Colourful, funny and above all not this kind of idol song that you have heard hundredth of time.
