This is such an easy choice for me - Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen! :D It's such a beautiful anime, that depicts one of the best parts of Rurouni Kenshin as a series. It's so sad the Jinchuu arc couldn't be animated but at least the flashback part that became Tsuioku-hen did get animated. The animation itself was also very well done, and the music also complemented everything well and brought out the intense emotions of this masterpiece.

It is a story of a young boy thrown into the throes of war, forced to find himself in the midst of it, how he learns to love, how he finds his purpose in life... It is dark and brooding, very tragic, but truly dramatic and quite simply, a brilliant masterpiece :) It's an adaptation that is actually better than the original manga, and how many times are anime able to do that? Answer: very, very few. This is one of those times :amuse

I highly recommend this to anyone, even if you haven't watched the actual Ruroken series. Being a flashback, you won't actually need knowledge of the actual Ruroken storyline to understand what is going on, though of course that is a bonus and if you had watched Ruroken this OVA will give meaning to "Himura Kenshin" and how his cross-shaped scar and his peace-loving nature and oath never to kill again came about.

If it wasn't for Hellsing Ultimate, Rurouni Kenshin would definately have gotten my vote!

yes, you need to watch both this and the series, to fully understand the Battousai Kenshin

This OVA 4 part movie, gives you the legend of the bad-ass Battousai Kenshin, that which you now see "very restrained" in the series

(I really need to finish the series, sighs...)

(I LOVE how Kenshin talks, english dub, in the series, with the reversed order of words/sentences and such other stuff, hehe. "That I am" - memory fails me, all the more reason to go back and watch/finish the series, lol)

(though, Kenshin is nothing compared to his teacher/sensei, I wish there was more about him, lol. he was even more fearsome than Kenshin, hehe)

The way Kenshin speaks is actually pretty much samurai speech ^^ He uses "-de gozaru" as an ending to his sentences rather than "desu" (normal) or "de gozaimasu" (polite), which is probably what was dubbed as "that I am" :p

Yeah, Hiko Seijuurou is super kickass :thumbs His main role was in the Kyoto Arc though, so I would recommend everyone to watch the main anime (the Kyoto arc is animated) or read the manga! And yes, Hege, you need to finish the series :yelling Seijuurou also appears in the other Ruroken OVA, Seisouhen, but that one was bad. They made Kenshin act out of character and even Watsuki publicly "disowned" Seisouhen :bored

... So to anyone who watches Tsuiokuhen and becomes intrigued by it and wants to watch its "sister" OVA... Save your time and don't do it :oh

The results are really close! Please vote and encourage your fellow members to vote for the nominee each of you thinks deserves to win! :tem Every vote counts! :thumbs
