This thread's purpose is to decide the Best Role Use. The role use that you found particularly impressive by a player, regardless of affiliation. Maybe because of a certain action or because of the general use in the game. To you, the way this role was used was very imactful.

Note: As these are the first Mafia Game Awards, all Mafia games played so far excluding speed games are eligible for this category.

Voting Round Final

• Time: 5 days - Polls open through December 18th.
• Members can only vote for 1 name out of the remaining nominees.
• In case of a tie for most votes, all tied nominees will be considered winners.

Anything prolly counts, but I feel that‘s not as impressive as these require a Doc protecting the Det + lack of Escort, so in those cases I‘d rather vote the good Doctors enabling the Det sweeps.

1. MG60 @Lambu as Prostitute - Amazing role usage this game. While day play was questionable and he claimed role Day 1 iirc, out of 4 usages he blocked mafia 3 times(1 of those blocking a kill) and 1 time blocked a town Insane Apprentice preventing him from joining the mafia.
2. MG66 @shinobi as Doctor protects Holt the Detective from Night 5 til Night 9, blocking I believe 2 mafia kill attempts during those phases and forcing mafia to give up on killing the Detective, allowing for a clean sweep while she herself stayed hidden/unknown as a Doctor(I think she didn't claim til later, but forgot details).
3. MG83 @Copy Panda spied on a mafia every phase, resulting in 2 lynches. Mafia should've used Escort or kill or anything but decided not to Still very impressive targetting done by him.
4. MG81 @desin24 blocked mafia twice from the 3 phases he was alive, the block on the town was just on a vanilla, 1 nightkill was a blocked and furthermore shattered mafia claims at day leading to mass lynches. But seriously I recall multiple games of desin blocking a kill as Prostitute, even the first game I hosted. If we had a best Prostitute award I'd give it to desin.

Marm was Innocent Child and Lambu never used his Mafia Noble role, right? Then yeah, qualifies as Best TP/Team material, but I wouldn't call that "using a role" either

Oh lord. Aren't we hair slitty today again. What is the Lover role anyway - the ability to talk at night and doing that cross-mafia-town faction. It was used to full advantage in the scenario described aboved, so deserves recognition as great role use.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be allowed, just my perspective on this category. Just as I personally wouldn't vote a Regular Townie for Best Role Use just because they lynched well, I'd rather evaluate the noms in this category on an effective role usage than affiliation. That is why I didn't consider that nom - everyone else is free to vote as they see fit

I agree with this. Their secondary role allowed them to discuss and plan things, and that's the ability they used in their favor to win the game. I see it as an ability cause it's not allegiance related - not all third parties have it, some townies and all mafia do. On that sense, I don't think the regular townie comparison was correctly placed, they aren't equivalent.

Ideally, no person or role is automatically excluded from a category, but on the other hand, Threesome Candidate is the only Lover/possible lover that has something that's normally thought of as an ability whereas a guilty party having a pad to talk in is normally a given. Besides TC and MR, what Lovers and masons have that's unique to their role is information, not tangible abilities to use.

Still, I haven't seen anyone dispute that this category or one like it shouldn't exist, but I think there's a better way to classify it or name it that would include things like good lover or even passive role mind game plays.

The title "Best Role Play" could work. It may be confused with 'being in character', but that could be easily clarified in the award description given in the first post.

Again, I'm not contesting the nomination or advising anyone not to vote for it. I simply clarified why I see this particular case to be more fitting for different categories rather than this one, from a purely subjective point of view - translated: "If you don't see me vote for Marm/Lambu in this category, it's not because I don't think they played great as Lovers, but because I attribute another meaning to Best Role Use and would personally consider it for more definite cases of a role being used".

Regular Mafia instead of Townie would also be the same for me, or Santa laying low during the day, or a mafia team devising and using a particularly clever code - which are all great behaviours from my point of view, but just like mafia/Lovers/Masons coordinating with one another, they aren't what I see as a "role use". For me, that fits square into Best Team, as well as into Best Townie/Mafia/TP.

I could definitely see Hardy's Best Deceiver idea working well here
