The voting phase has ended, and we have a winner!:party But first let's review the nominees
5 official nominees
Akira
Pluto
Blame!
Hotel
Gantz

Rest of old nominations

Kurogane no Linebarrel - (2)
Eden: It's an Endless World (2)
GUNNM (2)
2001 Nights
Neon Genesis Evangelion
no. 6
Goku
Suceed

And the champion of the Sci-fi genre is

:confettiGANTZ:confetti

a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku. Gantz tells the story of Kei Kurono and his friend Masaru Kato who die in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous "game" in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic items of equipment and weaponry.

As you have noticed already, these awards featured the choices of the MH's staff members and STARs, so here's the results for that:
Staff members have also chosen Gantz, whereas STARs even if only two of them have chosen Akira, the classic cyberpunk title of Otomo Katsuhiro.

I nominate 2001 Nights for Best Science Fiction.
Referring to the great masters of this genre Hoshino portrays an epic saga that spans more than four hundred years in which the sensei covers a multitude of subjects from the evolution to the concept of space from the relationship with the infinite to the existence of God.

I nominate GUNNM (aka. Battle Angel Alita)

A classic. The original is just perfect as it is. Not talking about Last Order here. Compact package, beautifully drawn world full of little details. Interesting plot, a good story and incredible characters. Gally is one of the greatest lead character I've seen, her developement as character is amazing.

I nominate no. 6 for best science fiction. The story is very steresting, although it could have been better developped in the anime. But it has been nice in the manga so far.

I nominate Blame! for Best Sci fi, because of the spectacular utopic environment, depicted by awesome artwork. This cyberpunk manga definitely deserves to share the top cream with some of the genres classics that have been mentioned above me.

I nominate Succeed from Osamu Akimoto with AtelierBe-dama. A one shot from the Jump one shot series last year. Well paced story of an old granny who lives in a space station around Earth and who retells her life.
