Gonna nominate Slam Dunk. I have heard that REAL is also pretty good but never tried it.
I have to admit that i haven't really read much Sports manga, since though i love Sports it always felt kinda weird to read a manga about it.
But Slam Dunk was really great so it definitely deserves my nomination.

An other manga that deserved my nomination, but unfortunately didn't was Hajime no Ippo. Though i don't read it since 850's. But it was also really entertaining and pretty funny.

I nominate Slam Dunk. Sincerely speaking, I haven't read many sports mangas, but that's not going to make me abstain on this topic. First of all, as a fan of Takehiko Inoue it would be a shame to not nominate Slam Dunk or Real. Second, it's not only about being Takehiko's fan, but as a sport's fan as well, I respect and admire the realistic approach Inoue done in Real, and in less scale in Slam Dunk. Third, both mangas are artistically fantastic (Hey, it's the same guy that draws Vagabond). Fourth, very good stories. You might be asking (or not) - Why Slam Dunk instead of Real? - The answer is very simple, I equally like both, it's not about the Shounen vs Seinen thing, I just tossed a coin and Slam Dunk was the lucky one.

It's a tough choice between Slam Dunk and REAL for me, but since Slam Dunk is already leading I'll second the nomination for REAL. It's very unique in that it depicts disabled people. I have a soft spot for the disabled and I really like how Inoue-sensei has depicted them trying to use sports to lead more normal lives. The art is also brilliant and the emotions they convey are very strong. The focus is less on sports than it was with Slam Dunk, but that also makes for a more interesting manga imo.

I'd support Slam Dunk because it's the best sport manga to me, but I totally agree with you about Real, that is totally different, but nothing has to envy to Slam Dunk in terms of goodness, and has more depht added. So, I support the nomination for REAL!

Eyeshield 21 for me. It was a fun read with a great cast. Who could ever forget Hiruma

Since I am at it, does Go count as a sport? If it does Hikaru no go could have been a nominee (did I spell that right?) as well. If anything the pair of authors who created the series have all my respect for being brave enough to choose for their manga a "sport" that is awfully boring for the spectators and actually make it into a fun read. I think that the mangaka who draw it is the same one that drew Death Note and now Bakuman.
