Re: Kodansha and Crunchyroll to Simulpub 12 Series to 170 Countries

Great Move! :o
Among 170 countries Brazil must be there, I guess.
Waiting for more informations, like cost. If it have in Brazil, I really would like to pay for this.
With these titles it is already "must subscribe". :D

The cost will be US $4.99 per month.

I've read that is still unknown if South America will be included in these 170 countries D: anyways, good news, i just hope they let the Edited Mangas keep doing their work as usual.

170 countries is like 80% of the countries in the world, it's quite impossible that Kodansha didn't consider South America among these 170 countries.
I don't know if all of them will be there, but at least some of them will be.
Cheering for Brazil of course, but good luck for everyone. XD

Shit, if I can get a thing for this along with Crunchyroll's anime service in one then I honestly might start considering paying for Crunchyroll.

I wish it had included at least one sports title, Area no Kishi, Oofuri, ace of diamond...Since its not really targeting print, what would they have to lose?

At ANN news they said that the service will have 12 titles released in October 30th with the catalog expading to over 50 titles by next summer. Probably these you said are going to be included.

Going by the ANN article, it appears to be a separate thing, not covered by anime membership. This would be $4.99 a month. Still pretty cheap though, and they say you can read catalog titles, so maybe that means back chapters.

Maybe he refers to obtain the mangas per volumes, but if you can read past chapters this isn't a problem, i think...

I think he means that since there's an official release, some online readers and Editing groups will stop hosting the chapters.

Mayhe he wants an option to be able to buy the individual volumes digitally, which would be nice. I guess we just have to wait until Wednesday for more details.

Re: Kodansha and Crunchyroll to Simulpub 12 Series to 170 Countries

I kinda liked this since if this works out well and I think with this many countries it will; this maybe the gateway for the other magazines to follow suit and although it may end fansub tradition it might at least give managaka's more of a cushion to create and publish. Moreover we will also have more of a say in the industry even thou most of us are outside of japan. No1 will want to cancel something if it makes money..... (this last part will probably take some time.)

If this option were not avaliable at first they will put it sooner or later with a good acceptance of the public, or the old chapters will be distributed in volumes since the beggining, they just didn't say it directly.

Re: Kodansha and Crunchyroll to Simulpub 12 Series to 170 Countries

Wow this is such a smart move by Crunchyroll. I definitely want to pick up Yamada-kun, maybe I'll pick up another title as well.

Of course, the biggest problem I have with Crunchroll's anime is that not all titles are available in all countries. So I can watch Gintama and Attack on Titan, but I can't watch Magi, which is a shame. I hope they rectify this if their e-manga endeavor turns out successful. I think it will though because 5 dollars a month sounds pretty good.

Kodansha has already been cracking down on Edited Mangas, at least for their big titles. English Edited Mangas of Shingeki and FT were taken down from Batoto some time ago. Lesser known titles have not been effected. Yozakura is still available, for example.

If they add Yozakura Quartet, I'd think about signing up.

.
BATOTO says: ============Notice================
Unfortunately the comic (or parts of it) was scanlated to English by groups that don't allow rehosting. Sorry for the inconvenience.
==========Notice End==============
I think it has to do more with Mangastream's policy than Kodansha's...

Anime has the problem of multiples studios, it requires many negotiations and there are others streaming services competing, so not always Crunchyroll manage to get all animes, but I think it is different now. Seems that they made a agreement with Kodansha, problaby an agreement of exclusivity in these countries to distribute digitally Kodansha series. Most of these countries don't have this service with the local publishers, so I don't see any impediment.

This agreement is beneficial to Kodansha, they won't need to enter in these markets with a new mark and technology. They will use Chruchyroll, a popular mark already, and its servers to host your mangas, not being neccesary to install their own servers.
