Discussion Events Suggestion Thread

Currently we have only a handful of non-Manga related forum events that we hold here; Valentine's Day, Community Awards, Scavenger Hunt and Secret Santa. These events can span from a number of days to event a number of weeks, and so the time it takes to plan and action them is usually according to the event duration.

With that said, please use this thread to voice any ideas on non-manga events you feel could be fun to host here on the forum. The ideas you have may be still immature or rough, but using this platform, we can discuss and maybe combine them with other ideas to something more concrete.

As per forum rules, please be respectful of other member's ideas and constructive with criticism. No bashing, insulting or any such behaviours will be tolerated.

Please be aware and note that not all suggestions may be taken on board, or considered; depending on what other events are on, workload of the staff, time constraint and feasibility of the idea itself.

We will try and involve members whose ideas we take on as much as possible, in hopes that it encourages more to members to come up with ideas too.

Reverse Community Awards

- will have negative categories such as:
Worst Username, Worst Staff Member,
(though this may be a bad event and may start misunderstandings and quarrels )

Change Personality Week

-each participating members will be assigned to change PERSONALITY with other participants.
meaning, they will use the avatar, sig, and post like how the assigned member to him/her

ex:
goldb will act like imperium and will always post "porn related jokes"

Gaming Week

-an event that will showcase different games in the website
the games can be as simple as flash games or as difficult as detective games
there will be lots of games and the best player of every game will be awarded at the end of the week

Ultimate Mafia Game

-the ultimate mafia game will be the biggest mafia game event of the year, the game's updates will be featured in the website, like hunger games and battle royale.

Movie Awards

-Oscars the MangaHelpers way. All members can nominate and vote for many different categories that is related to movies. There will be too seperate awards for All-Time and Current Movies

Sorry for the delay Faust, I had overlooked this post until now.

Reverse Community Awards- That was mentioned in the discussion thread for the last awards( If I recall), or at least something similar. I think the outcome was that it'd bring too much negative discussions and may turn bitter so the idea was dropped.

Change Personality Week- This seems more like something that would be better suited for the Fun Forum rather than a community event and it would require the user to check out a person's posts and know their habits.

Gaming Week- Hmmm seems more like it's suited for the Video Games section this one.

Ultimate Mafia Game- This I really like, the first thing I thought about was the broadcast/announcement of eliminations made throughout the forums, as well as general updates. I'll speak to our techs regarding the announcements stuff and a few questions about site tweaking as I really like the Hunger Game-type aspect of it.

Movie Awards- That is actually something we've had planned since last year, but was set aside as we had other projects in the works that were seen as better suited to be launched or demanded more immediate attention. Once the project works begins again, I will give notice.

-All members can nominate and vote for many different categories that is related to books/novels/poetry

Board Games Week

-A week where all members can participate in any board game such as chess, scrabble, trivial pursuit, risk, monopoly, game of generals, rainet and many other board games. The game will be played digitally through applications.

Voice Acting Contest

-Anyone can join from members to staff members. The contest manager will distribute random manga chapters to the participants. The participants will be grouped according to how many characters are there in the manga chapter. The participants will record or video themselves while reading their character's lines in the manga chapter. An award for best group, best voice actress, and best voice actor will be awarded after the event.

The plan was to have an awards event for the whole of the General Categories; so it would include a music awards category, as well as film, politics/news, games, etc...

The rest of these can simply be voted upon within their respective threads( if they have one), as I doubt the impact it'd have( mainly talking about the Literary awards here). You can simply start a voting/theme/event sorta thing within those threads, ie. a while ago there was a song vosting theme in the vost thread and then members voted on who sang best, the same can be done fort the voice acting. Boards Games Week, can simply be a thread in the Fun Forum where you play different games everywhere. All those at the bottom can be done by yourselves and so dont need our go ahead.

That's not how moderator recruitment works and it wouldn't be a good idea to do so. Only once during a very busy period were application for moderators made public, other than that, it is decided at staff level and the qualities the member can bring to the section and forum. It's not something that we feel should be held as an event.

Having categories for threads is a redundant as not all members frequent those sections, especially the Meet the Moderators sections; which is predominantely filled by FFers and staff members. Also, one of the only ways to gauge the threads would be spam/number of posts, which eliminates many of the other threads.

Yes, it'll either be in May or July; depending what other event we have during this time. This thread lists all the current events we hold and the rough dates for them.

Create a Badge Contest
An Art Contest Really but something that I don't think has been done before. Participants would submit badge designs with any kind of theme allowed by Forum Rules and the winner of the voting round gets to have their own badge displayed on their profile. Not something I think I'd actually enter but I think a lot of people would participate with how active the A&S Section has been lately.

Bring back the Easter Egg Hunt?

I don't think I'd be alone if I said that a Video Games Awards would be a huge hit on the forum. Many gamers inhabit these forums and we have a great VG Mod to help you put it all together. 2017 is already shaping up to be a fantastic year, so why not give it some consideration?
