Berserk
The manga that is universally praised by lovers and critics alike. Many consider it to be the best manga of all times.Well i willI not go into that, it's upto you people to decide it
The Story
It is quite a complex story. The setting is in medieval times, where war was in it's purest form. Our main character's name is Guts, and once you read his backstory you will be crushed. There is no other character with such a tragic past and life. Guts basically has everything taken away from him, by the person he trusts the most, in the most brutal manner. The moment this happens is in the Golden Age arc, which is regarded by many as the epitome of storytelling and art in manga history. Once you read this arc, you will need a lot of time to recover. And that's where things pick up. A quest for revenge, but not just a simple revenge story. The choices the characters make, their growth is unlike any other. This manga also delves into topics that not a lot of stories dare to venture in, like the inquisition and most of all religion. There is a lot of meaning in everything.
The Art
It is as breathtaking as the story. Considering it is nearly 30 year old manga, it has a much better art than manga series that are coming out this year. The designs of the characters, the designs of the monsters, the gory deaths, torture scenes from the inquisition, backgrounds, castles ... honestly they are godly. You can probably say that it is like watching an anime. That's how amazing it is. It is so fluid, that the battles look like they are high budget anime. The other thing is that you can easily tell when the time passes, due to how the characters age and their design changes. Just like in real life, our characters' bodies change, as well as their facial features, all in an astounding detail. As far as the monsters go, there are even rumors, that Miura sensei had to go to a hospital because of nightmares, and once you see them, you can easily understand why.
Characters
One of the fundamental parts in every story is the character development, and by God there is an abundance of it here. It is not forced, like in other stories where you don't know how it happened. Here every event, every conversation leads to great development. And it is not only our MC that gets developed, but the secondary characters get their time to shine as well.
