Well, I'm sure it's apparent now by posting about 10 translations without the Japanese scripts that I am A)Lazy and B)Illiterate. But I'm working on it!

An issue I have when I'm typing up the Japanese script however, is that often in the middle of a sentence in Shounen manga they will use a katakana word or two. Then hiragana again for a few sentences, etc. Now, how I've dealt with this so far is by leaving dollar signs where the katakana goes, and coming back to insert it all in one pass. However, I was wondering if anyone here knows a keyboard shortcut, or something that is slipping by me, so that I can quickly switch the font type I'm using after entering Shift-JIS from the language bar in XP. I'll remove this topic gladly if it turns out I'm just blind. I found how to switch to direct input "\\", but nothing for choosing katakana or hiragana, let alone different widths.

Try pushing F7 after writing what you want in hiragana and it'll magically turn into katakana :D

Nice. I usually just space through it and hit the number when I get to the right page.

Alt-Caps Lock puts the Windows IME into katakana input mode (if already in kana input); Ctrl-Caps Lock puts it into hiragana input mode.
