I've always been curious about something. In Spanish, we use two different kinds of "I love you": 1) te quiero, and 2) te amo, being the second a stronger feeling than the first.
I've never found an equivalent in English, only the traditional "I love you", which, according to my experience, is translated as "te amo" more often than as "te quiero". I was shocked the first time I heard a guy saying "I love you" to a friend, because "te amo" is deeply strong, something you use with a girl you're really connected to (you can spend a whole relationship saying "te quiero" and only use "te amo" when you really feel you love her enough), and so, this guy seemed to be in love on his male friend...:-)
I wonder if there's this kind of distinction in another languages. I know that the Japanese "ai shiteru" is equivalent to our "te amo", but I don't know the counterpart for the "weaker" version.
Does anybody know?
