Weekly Shoseki Top 500 (9/27/21 - 10/3/21)

357. New Prince of Tennis #34 (2,901 / 62,022)
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Good 1st episode of Platinum End, was obvious that the production value wouldn't be great but it was competent and delivered in the big moments, the adaptation was very loyal to the manga so nothing to complain about that, overall for a already finished manga it was a good start.

It's a good start but I'm wondering what the pacing will be like, 14 vol in 24 episodes means just over half a volume per ep (so like 100 pages or more, equivalent of doing 5-6 weekly chapters per ep). That's a lot to cover. Though I suppose much of the latter half of the series could be skipped since there's a lot of rambling dialogues about philosophy.

I wonder how long it'll be until the next Jump Square anime, Dark Gathering and Too Cute Crisis are the next longest I think except for Rurouni Kenshin and seem like they're around to stay, but 2 years isn't quite enough time for a monthly series.

I actually expected Kenshin to have an anime this year since we celebrate 25 years to the beginning of the anime. The next round year is 2024 for 30 years to the manga but by then I don't know where the manga will reach.

What a nice surpreise was Taishou Otome Otogibanashi, i probably liked more than the first episode of Platinum End, another finished series that is going to be entirely adapted (i suppose), i was a bit skeptical at first but decided to pick since isn't everyday we have JumpSQ anime adaptations but i'm glad, everything was very well done, animation and art looks very consistent and the whole premise is interesting, Yuzuki is super cute.

Btw, both JumpSQ anime adaptation of finished mangas about main characters very depressed until a girl/female character appears to help, interesting coincidence :hmm

If overall, i think Kemono Jihen S2, it would be a shock if isn't already in production with the success of S1 and there's a lot of material. It would be really great if Kono Oto Tomare gets a S3 and still don't know what the hell is going on with Ao no Exorcist not getting anything new.

New franchise, unfortunately JumpSQ has nothing in the moment, maybe if Dark Gathering keeps growing

First episode of WT's third season aired. Still can't believe I can actually write those words and for them to be real. Ages ago when Season 1 ended that seemed to be it and now we got two more seasons and their quality is so much better than season 1 had been. Here's hope to a 4th season in the distant future!

And with the topic of new Jump SQ animes, I really do hope Kekkai Sensen gets a S3 "soon". The series is still doing very well so it's surprising that the wait is this long and there's more than enough content to adapt. Kemono Jihen S2 is most likely next though.

New Jump Square anime is here (New PoT)

I had expected a new anime announced but I was hoping it'd be an OVA. The PoT franchise tragically always finds a way to mess up the canon story in it's TV adaptations. The OVAs, namely The National Tournament and VS Genius 10 are far better.

The answer came really fast :p they didnt even waited for NPOT super stage on Jump Festa.

I didnt even thought about a new tv anime for NPOT, its been 10 years since the first season, happy for the fans, i really want to get into the franchise, watched few episodes some years ago and liked but ended up dropping for reasons, one day i will start again :ryoma4

D.Gray Man #23 (released in 2012) completely out of nowhere charting at 5th on Shoseki 10/13:

Maybe a mistake, but so funny and random kkkk :allen

Edit: Shoseki posted a new ranking for October 13, this time without D.Gray-Man

I saw the D.Gray-Man post yesterday and thought was just something isolated but seems like they're doing with almost all popular series in the magazine, seems like no actual explanation besides a way of trying to get potential new readers
