Hmm, Keima isn't a bad character, but the one who deserves winning this round is undoubtedly Kenshin.
I remember watching the anime long time ago and if I recall he was an assassin who worked for different people, until one day he met one of his target's wife.
Events occured and at the end he ended up killing her by accident during a fight.
From there, he bettered himself and became an honorable person.

yup! he met Tomoe whose fiancee he killed. He got blinded in a fight and Tomoe protected her but ended up getting stabbed along with the other guy. Tomoe gave him the final slash for his x scar.

since then, he's done nothing but protect everyone he can.

Didn't read either series featuring these characters, but everyone knows that Kenshin is a cool dude, so there goes my vote for him.
