Hi guys so here are our night actions tab and thought process for the game.

First the tab:



Following the "level up" idea from our theme we wanted to give players the opportunity to level up throughout the game thanks special objects they would find in dungeons. However finding many level up ideas for every role was complicated. Also given our small number of players we decided to make everyone start as vanilla to give the mechanics more impact and push players to go into dungeons. We simplified the dungeons's objects idea by deciding that it would be simpler to just have dungeons that allowed to level up (because there were strong monsters in it that gave lots of xp lol) and dungeons that didn't.

Dungeons were as followed

On D1 we put a dud dungeon but didn't expect HALF the players to choose it, + one who forgot to send + one of the four remaining died D1. So only 3 people with a role on N1. We expected it to be at least 5 or 6.
Which is why we had put a necromancer and an apprentice in the role list thinking they would have much to do and choose from as the game went on. (They didn't 😭)

As for the roles, we made a list beforehand and randomized it with the player list. Thus, everyone had a role waiting for them, all they had to do was enter the right dungeons.
This is what each of you was bound to get:
Asako - Necromancer
DD - Sane spy
Erinyes - hider
Brandish µ - prosecutor
Gajeel - Insane apprentice (who then became sane)
Lady pompom - Sane doc
GrySun - Paranoid det

Belserion - M. Det
Baka Taichou - Escort
Shad - Poisoner
We also had ideas for second level ups for each. But appart from Gajeel no one leveled up twice.

On D2 rather than a dud we put a secondaries dungeon which is weaker but still useful. We had a thought up list of secondaries and randomized the list with the player that entered the dungeon. No premade association player x secondary.

On D3 we once again put a dud and wanted to have fun by adding a buff dungeon that allowed for a double action. It may seem too OP, but in Mafia game there is game, and we wanted to see how all the double actions would cross each other and maybe create interesting game situations. In the end the buff was only useful to mafia.

On D4 with such few players remaining and everyone having a role or a secondary, only one dungeon was legit (and no one entered it).

That's it for the explanations we wanted to give, feel free to ask any question. Any constructive feedback or criticism is accepted !

(Also my wording might make it seem like we took decisions on the go as the game went on, but no, most of it was thought out before the game started and then we navigated and adjusted things as phases passed.)

SHAD :glomp Very well played!! I was nervous when you chose the poison route instead of just outright kills but it paid off! After a nightmare start for the team you dug your heels in and brought it home. Would have loved to play with you and Sakura longer but maybe another time :D

@Hermit @Tatsumaki Thanks for the game. I didn't get to play long but I had a lot of fun spectating. Hope you guys can test a similar mechanic in a larger game in the future.
Special thanks to @Juviii, I think my first mafia win ever was one where we all died and she carried the game by herself, very inspiring.

Yeah my poisoner use was iffy, my thoughts process was:
- the more players are alive, the less likely I will be lynched
- after the first poison failing, the second one will confuse town and put them in a relaxed state, if nobody is dying there is no urgency.

@Baka Taichou our one night in the deadpad was short, but I really appreciate that you trusted me, the day you died I swore to bring you their heads, seeing you following the game made me laugh a lot xD Looking forward to be teammates again, nobody expects asakua/shad mafia team to do well xD
You played splendidly, I appreciated how calm and composed you were in the pad and your predictions of next day's events (he was 100% sure everyone would come for me), thought I'd wait for it and if i see things moving that way I'd try to distance myself from you and leave the focus on me by making everyone sus in my list, also including you in the list but leaving out asako put some shade in the subconscious on asako (sorry asachii it was only because your busy schedule fit mine and it was too good to pass) if I turned out mafia and further confirmed your townie stance. but that was just a lil nudge, you literally won the game yourself!.

Also, I REALLY appreciated that you didn't go after me too aggressively when ppl started going for me, like i remember you did a few times when we were teammates, you did it subtly and compassionately and that shows me you've grown a lot and I appreciated and noticed it.

Looking forward to being teamed up with you again as well!

I'm reading the deadpad right now, it really funny seeing you guys talk about the same stuff I was considering alone at night.
Scary Gry, his theory about mafia would not vote Bel D1 but would vote a mafia D2, he is tracking me down without even posting, I just couldn't deal with Gry voting me first thing in the day to put pressure on me, without him the town pressure is a lot easier to handle.

Lambu was like: Yep killing Gry is best move.
Coudn't agree more, I was ready to lose the game without killing a single time for the chance town doesn't get doc N1 and he dies.

Thank you sakura I really appreciate your feedback and your kind words, you handled D2 very well, the most important thing was to not confirmed a townie by dying, we already had enough confirmed townies to deal with. going for DD was the right choice, he was already confirmed, plus you sused everybody for good measure xD

Were there any hints, that show if a dungeon is a dud or not? Like colors or gate type etc?

If you got it N1 the game would have been over with a town victory super quick.

This why I no longer stress while playing mafia, I just accept that stuff happens on it own and I try to ride the wave and pray xD

Were there any hints, that show if a dungeon is a dud or not? Like colors or gate type etc?
I think for the last donjons they removed the name of the location, not sure why tho.

I couldnt do anything else but I wish Gajeel hadnt given up.
It was pointless. I had three votes on me when I had barely gotten on the thread that day already. I was talking into the void from the moment I joined the day phase. That being said, I'm glad you were the only one who waited for me.

Sorry gajeel for putting you in that situation, I get that it feels bad but as a mafia I gotta do mafia stuff and be evil and all.

If I was town I would have waited for you as well.

I think people get tired after 4 days and just want to vote and be done with the game, but the votes weren't locked, they was a chance to turn it.

These are the issues I saw and tried to exploit:
- your role didn't make as much sense, check hosts post about the setup, people you targeted died.
- you used it too liberally, you should have played more defensively with it.
- your arguements day 4, weren't convincing, the only way to get my lynched was to focus on poisoner, pointing out that brandish was poisoned.

Your threat to show PM, reminded me of that game you were a cowboy detective, I'm thinking you are good at scare tactics xD

Again sorry, but next game you may be the mafia so we are all capable of great evil xD

@Hermit @Tatsumaki So my closing thoughts on the game after letting things get digested:

I like the type of mechanic where not everyone‘s roles are active at all times. There‘s been several games that try and approach doing this differently. Like splitting players in groups and diferent groups are active each phase, players not knowing their roles, players trying to get some limited item that unlocks the role, etc. But I think there‘s still more that can be done and tested with the general idea, as they all had some flaws.
Here the main thing I disliked is that it‘s just purely random. The most crucial town role was never unlocked simply due to rng. I think Pompom missed 66% chance twice. But that‘s just me personally not being a fan of rng that doesn‘t have ways to increase odds by doing or figuring out something.
Other than that, I‘d have replaced D3‘s buff with another door of secondary. A double-action mechanic is very risky for balance if it works on mafia kills, usually you only want to double non-killing roles.

Setup had 1 more mafia than usual for 10 players, town technically had a killing role balancing it, but Brandish had to unlock it with luck first. Otherwise fine.

As for roles, the only thing I‘d say was really bad was the Insane Apprentice. That‘s a potentially 4th mafia in a 10 player game, decent 3/9 odds to happen and if it happens game is practically unwinnable. Should either have been Sane only or a different role entirely, preferably different role because Apprentice is imo best for a bit larger games.
Necro is rather weak as well, but that‘s actually fine, it‘s not a role that has to be very powerful. It can, given the setup, but it can also be a utility role. Even copying a Hider for one night when anticipating getting killed can be really useful, props to a more unique Necro approach.

Overall very fun game, mostly spectated but exciting nonetheless, much appreciated 🙏

They weren‘t though? It was only random if you unlock your role, but the role you would get was predetermined. Only I could‘ve gotten the Det role for example.

Thank you very much for your advice !

The thing is we thought keeping it random was what would prevent the mechs from advantaging anyone. Also it kinda followed the series in the sense that they never know what they'll find in a dungeon.
The buff one was to make things spicy but we're too chaotic and double action in a small game was too bold.
I'll keep in mind what you said about the roles too !
