This is a long overdue thread to discuss the winners, past and present, of any Japanese manga award. There are to many to list in this post, the best known are the publishers awards given by Kodansha and Shogakukan. My favorite is the Manga Taisho Awards, given annually by a committee of book store staffers. Please feel free to post about and discuss any of the Awards, in this thread.

Past winners of The Manga Taisho Awards

If anyone can link to a good list of Kodansha and Shogakukan award winners, post it. I'll add it to the OP. The Wikipedia entries are disasters :s

The winners of the 35th annunel Kodansha Awards were announced today (mangaka)(magazine/publisher):

Best Children's Manga: Honto ni Atta! Reibai-Sensei (MATSUMOTO Hideyoshi)(Shounen Rival/Kodansha)
Best Shounen Manga: Shingeki no Kyojin (ISAYAMA Hajime)(Bessatsu Shounen Magazine/Kodansha)
Best Shoujo Manga: Chihayafuru (SUETSUGU Yuki)(Be Love/Kodansha)
Best General Manga: March Comes in Like a Lion (UMINO Chica)(Young Animal/Hakusensha)
Uchuu Kyoudai (KOYAMA Chuuya)(Morning/Kodansha)

Best General Manga is given exclusively to seinen manga. Best Shoujo is actually for shoujo and josei; Chihayafuru is josei, not josei. Umino Chica, one of my favorite mangaka, has now won best general category and best shoujo manga, having previously won for Honey and Clover in 2003. If the name does not mean anything to you, she did the character design and art for Eden of the East. For some reason Uchuu Kyoudai was co-winner of best general manga category for this years Shogakukan Award too.

With the exception of Honto ni Atta! Reibai-Sensei, all of this years winners are past nominees for the Manga Taisho Award. Chihayafuru (2009) and March Comes in Like a Lion (2011) are previous winners.

The best way to keep tabs on the awards is by the official sites. Here are the list of Shogakukan winners from the 1st to the 55th awards. This is the list of recent winners from each category. The list of Kodansha winners are here, but they don't have anything before the 26th awards.

They're all in Japanese of course so give me a few days to compile them in English. :)

There are still #1 ~ 25 and the Shogakukan awards to go! Note: If any links are broken, please PM me. You are also free to copy and paste this to another site but please credit; this took more time than I thought! :darn

I don't like the publisher award it's giving to manga published in same publisher magazine, and when we read the list of winner, we find bleach have win another publisher award it's shogakukan award (Hakusensha+Shodensha+Shogakukan+Shueisha = Hitotsubashi Group ) ...
come on, we're not a idiots ....
