Hi! First of all I like to thank you for posting this in the D.Gray-man Hang Out Thread! Or else I would never have found this at all! The likeness to Yullen really amazes me, and I'm liking the manga and anime alike. I'd like to read the novel too, but at the moment, I only saw a link to the first chapter of it.
And did they kiss? Really? I've watched all five episodes as of today and just finished downloading the 4 chapters. Where did this happen? I'd really like to see, or read this myself. Knowing how it happened too. ^^
Hey, there.
Only the volume 1 of novel was completely translated. Volume 2 in progress.
You can read it here: http://ninteenpointzerofour.wordpress.com/no-6/
Besides that, there is only the chinese translation around.
You will find summaries in many places describing the kisses. Example:
They actually kissed twice (on the lips) in the novels. The first one was claimed by Shion as a good night kiss, but it's actually a goodbye kiss (because he'll go save Safu) and Nezumi is aware of that. Nezumi then gets emotional and cries after the kiss.
The second kiss is at the end when Nezumi bids farewell to Shion (like an oath kiss that he promises to come back), and then Shion said the he won't let him go again when he comes back home.
A person at Lj posted the translation of one of the kisses that happen at volume 3-chapter 4
"I know that sort of thing! But I just worry about you. Can't I worry about you? Don't I have the right to worry about you?"
"Right... what are you saying, Shion?"
"You're forcing me to!"
Shion clenched his fist and hit the bookshelf.
A mountain of accumulated books toppled over. Cravat squeaked and hid within Nezumi's clothes.
"Sorry, I got too excited (fired up... but I'm leaving it as excited since Nezumi repeats it in a somewhat flirtatious way in the next line)... I didn't mean to yell at you like that."
"Not at all, your excited expression is rather alluring. If the opportunity arises, I'd like to see it again."
"Being together with you, I seem to frequently get excited (fired up). It turns out I'm such an emotional person. I even scared myself."
"You've always been emotional by nature, with your emotions reigned in by your sense of reason. It's not shameful to freely go along with one's emotions. Four years ago as well, while you were still a No.6 elite, you complied with your feelings... and accepted me."
It was said with a barely audible whisper.
Shion lowered his head and leaned over. His lips lightly pressed against Nezumi's lips.
Clatter!
The sound of a book falling from somewhere resounded.
Nezumi lifted his head and asked "This isn't a kiss of gratitude, is it?"
"It's only a good night kiss."
"Oh... good night."
"Tomorrow I'd like to help give the dogs a fur trim. There's a lot of long-haired dogs, but Inukashi just leaves them there. Their furs' all knotted. They'll get dermatitis at this rate."
"I just got bitten. So regardless of whether it's long-haired or short-haired, I don't want to hear about the dogs."
Shion laughed and waved.
"Then good night."
"Hm, sweet dreams."
"You too."
Shion disappeared behind the books. Perhaps since he wished to sleep together with Shion, Cravat burrowed out of Nezumi's clothes and followed Shion up.
"Good night kiss, was it?"
Nezumi leaned back in his armchair and gently caressed his lips with his fingers.
"So it seems you know how to lie too."
In an instant the hunger, the fatigue, the pain from his wound all dissipated. In its place, other feelings slowly surged forth from within his body. It was difficult to distinguish whether those feelings were sorrow or loneliness.
What was this?
Suddenly he felt warm droplets slide down his cheek. Only after quite some time passed, did he realize they were tears.
I've long forgotten how to cry.
So salty.
Like a soup with too much salt added.
Nezumi hugged his legs close and lowered his head. Slowly, he drank the tears that fell to his mouth.
Wow, thanks for all of those links and for turning me on to this anime. I'd actually been planning to watch it for a long while (ever since the new season started), but once I found out it was BL, it kinda got bumped up on my priority list.
And then I watched episode one... and DAMN. way, way more than I was expecting. I pretty much watched all 9 episodes in a row. Sooo much fun. Honestly though, I really don't see what the genre debate is all about -- it was very clear to me after the first ep that this wasn't just slashy, but at least full-on shounen-ai. Had the characters been older, I could've taken taken that dialog word for word and inserted it into any generic yaoi manga and it wouldn't have seemed out of place at all.
And wow, that kiss was way more intense in the novel than in the anime. I see what you mean about them cutting bits... How are you liking the novels, in general? BL stuff aside, is there a lot more in them that the anime hasn't shown? One thing that frustrates me about the anime (besides the horrible animation) is the lack of world definition. Generic dystopian future, division between the ignorant Haves and rebellious Have-nots, and to be honest it just seems like plot device more than anything else -- a way for Sion to be led around and "educated" (haha) by Nezumi, and for them to have a reason to work together to save whatsherface.
For a BL, it's good. definitely above-average. But if I have to compare it to everything else, it's been done better before. That's why I'm wondering if something's just been lost in the transition to anime. I know they must've had to rush a lot of stuff to compress everything down to 11 episodes. ah well. I'm enjoying the BL bits in the meantime. xD

My biggest complaint would be about the order of scenes. It's different on the 3 (anime, manga and novel).
I am already used to the anime lowering the level of involvement of Shion and Nezumi. In the novel, they really care for each other, more than the anime is showing. There was also the Riki part that i have to read again, cause i think it showed hints that he is Shion's father. But i'm not sure, especially after nothing being shown in the anime.
It's just the last scene of volume 9, plus the epilogue. Of the novels, I've only read that little bit plus some random excerpts and pieces of scenes. I dunno though. I don't know what it is about light novels -- possibly a bad translation, not sure -- but they always seem like bad fanfic to me. Just bad prose, and overly angsty/melodramatic.
Guess I'll have to see how the last two eps play out though. wonder if they'll keep the same non-ending.
I have to post this scan from a magazine about animes. It's way too cute to not post.
Credits to sakuraelizaveta at Lj for finding it.
