Plagiarism in the comic book world

Plagiarism, or copying and selling someone elses work as your on, is both legally and morally wrong. But why does it happen in an artistic surrounding anyway? It's not often as bad as what Nick Simmons did a few years ago. Sometimes it's just a power getting too similar, or a storyline feeling all too familiar. I think that in part it is inspiration taken too far. Some authors even get inspired by their own works, repeating the same storyline over and over again. The story, of course, doesn't get better like that. Also I imagine for some parts of comics it's actually difficult to toe the line between nudges and hints to your favorite artists and artworks. What do you think of my theory on the origin of plagiarism? Do you like artists paying tribute to their role models?
