MH Discussion thread: Rave Master

General Overview: The story of a boy and his friends as they travel around the world collecting pieces of RAVE to bring about peace.

Category Ratings: (1-10 scale)

Art: 5

The art is the beginning is not great but it does improve as the story progresses. If you are familiar with Fairy Tail, you'll recognise the emerging art style in the later chapters. Though the art can be rough at times, it's easy enough to follow.

Also, many of the characters share physical characteristics with Fairy Tail characters. Most notably Plue. Who appears to be the same character in both manga.

Plot: 8

The plot is much deeper then the early chapters lead you to believe. They also start to hint at bigger things fairly early on. The story moves quite well and it generally stays on track. It becomes tighter in the later half of the story.

Characters: 7

A real mix of characters - some appear limited and/or superficial but they grow and develop within the story. They're all very different in their physical appearance and in their beliefs and views.

One of the themes mentioned below is doing what you believe is right, and while the characters hold true to this theme they also accept that some situations demand changing your view as part of your growth but they never abandon their core beliefs.

Theme: 6

Sacrifice, loyalty, love, protecting those you love, doing what you believe is right and standing by your beliefs are the major themes.

There are also themes of accepting the consequences of your actions and doing things for the greater good.

Originality: 6

A boy and his friends saving the world isn't that original but RAVE brings more to the story. Nothing is as straight forward as you initially think and there are some surprises, and some heartache, along the way.

Overall: 8

8 is high as there are some negatives but the overall story and character growth overshadow the negatives and pull RAVE together for an enjoyable read.
