Wow Charging him 10000 yen lol for that delicious meal. Is it worth it? Maybe as it did encourage him to eat healthier but also gave him inspiration to keep moving forwards in a more better direction.

I wonder if anyone still interested in the series? lol
I read the chinese scan so I'm caught up with the series.
Honestly, it's not very good but since it's a monthly series, I can just read it occasionally.
It's really bland though....It's lack all the things that make the main series good.(The food, diverse cast, foodgasm and art).
All the characters are boring & uninteresting. I like Shinomiya as a character but I think he need other interesting characters to make him a better character.
In the main series, Soma meet many different chefs with unique design, personality and cooking style.
But in this series, almost all the chefs are just bland & mob characters with no personality whatsoever. You have owner chef who are willing to hired Shinomiya. Then there are some generic french chef who are jealous of Shinomiya because he's Japanese or he's young & talented. Herve is probably the nicest chef Shinomiya met and who is actually a character.
To give a summary up to chapter 17

After the Herve's situation, Duggary recommended to Shinomiya to one of his restaurant. So Shinomiya managed to got a job. There he met this 16 years old boy named Leroy. Everyone dislike Leroy because he's incompetent and only got the job because his mother is dating one of the restaurant's regular patron. Shinomiya realised that the cooks in this restaurant aren't interested in self-improved but are content with looking down on those weaker than them. Leroy asked Shinomiya to teach him how to cook better. He will get fired soon because his mother broke up with the regular patron and that guy want him out. Shinomiya tried to convinced the owner chef to retain Leroy. The owner chef say he can't because Leroy is useless but if he does well in a cooking contest, he can stay.
So Shinomiay reluctantly helped Leroy. Leroy has a sob story-his mother is a whore, he has to quit school to fend for his younger siblings. Leroy managed to passed and get to stay on.
Meanwhile, Shinomiya decided to leave the restaurant as he will not be able to improve his cooking. This restaurant is all about tradition and using the same recipe. When Shinomiya showed the head chef his ideas, the chef appreciate the innovation but say this restaurant is all about sticking to tradition.
He's (unfortunately) joined by Leroy,who become the sidekick and they decide to go somewhere.But they are stopped by someone...
That someone is Silvet. The woman from chapter 3. She has a favour to request from Shinomiya, So Shinomiya and Leroy are shipped off to a farm owned by this old lady named Anna. Silvet wants Anna to grow a unique type of capsicum only Anna can grow. But Anna refuse and Shinomiya's job is to convince her. If he succeed, he will get to cook in this exclusive & fancy 'club' that most chefs dreamed of.
Shinomiya realise this old lady has a thing against Japanese. Turn out that old lady used to have a Japanese lover. She wanted to marry him but her father refused. There's also the whole thing with her being french and him being Japanese so they broke up. The old lady still regret her decision. She actually has been secretly growing the capsicum that Silvet wanted. But she has no intention to sell it to the public because of the sentiment behind it. It remind her of her younger days.
By chance, Silvet met up with the japanese man who's in France for a conference.She talks to him and found out he doesn't have much time left. So, she planned for Anna and him to met in the exclusive event. Shinomiya will cook a dish using the capsicum that will evoke the memory of those two.
It took a while for Shinomiya to figure out the flavor but eventually did. It evoke the sense of nostalgia in Anna. The main chef of the event did tried to sabotage him but everything worked out in the event. Anna reconciled with her former lover. He asked her to marry him and she accepted. It seem Silvet is starting to have a thing for Shinomiya.
Leroy and Shinomiya went off to somewhere again. Shinomiya is on a path of self-discovery. One of the guy who attended the event took an interest in Shinomiya. His son is a chef too and he wants someone who can rival his son to further improve his son skill. The son, who's a bishie take an interest in Shinomiya. Chapter ends
I guess Shinomiya is going to get a rival soon who is not a cardboard cut out...

@Zekiel There is a shot of the Polar Star Dormitory here, which seems to imply one of them lived at the dorm.
Since we know Mizuhara lived in an apartment, this narrows it down to Shinomiya, Donato, or/and Inui.
My Guess is Shinomiya since he was poor

Thats interesting.... If shino were to have stayed at the psd dorm that would make shino get closer to souma if he visited tootsuki..... i could expect more training for souma and backstory

Once in a while I check in on this series. The current arc is actually mildy interesting in cheesy soap opera way.

Regarding Shinomiya and his love life

Shinomiya makes an emergency visit to his tokyo branch to deliver some red wine.
As he was about to leave the tokyo restaurant, he noticed a toddler following him. The toddler call him "Dad"...With the sous chef guy freakin out that shinomiya has a son?!
Shinomiya dropped out the toddler at the police station but the police suspect it's a kidnapping case. So, he left & was spotted by Mizuhara & Hinako.
They also freak out thinking that toddler is his son. (Hinako imagine that shinomiya open the tokyo branch so he could see his lover & have a child. Mizuhara express disgust.)
Shinomiya got into some argument with random guy. Don't know what's up with that.
Back to restaurant, they are trying to figure out what to do with the toodler.
Hinako try to hold & play with the toodler. She got rejected much to her chagrin. She pass the toodler to Mizuhara...He got along well with Mizuhara!
This lead Hinako to believe that Mizuhara & Shinomiya had that child together!! They both vehemently denied.
Then, Donota showed up & that toodler like him too. Donota also commented that the toodler look like Shinomiya. This lead Shinomiya to believe that the toodler is attracted to the smell of "red wine" which was the case. Shinomiya, Mizuhara & Donota comes into contact with red wine a lot. His parents are also connected to red wine somehow.
Shinomiya pull out a paper from the boy's pocket. On the paper, a lady request that shinomiya take care of this child for a while & they haven't seen each in a long while (since high school??).
Chapter 24 is not out yet in chinese.
There are some moments of "Dad shinomiya" in action.lol
But the main point is that the toodler's mother showed up as a cliffhanger.
She basically reiterate what was say in the paper. They haven't seen each other in a long while.
My opinion: This kid is clearly NOT shinomiya's child. Duh. But it's kinda fun seeing Shinomiya's group interacting.

Remember the two thugs from chapter 24 who were after the baby?
Shinomiya used them to track down the person who hired them aka the baby's paternal grandfather.
The baby's mum greeted Shinomiya which prompt his friends to roast him for hiding a beautiful lady from them.lol
She laughs and remark how Hinako, Mizuhara & Donota never change much. This puzzled them. Mizuhara realise she's an ex-classmate of their.
Back in Tootsuki days, she wore glasses and wasn't pretty. Shinomiya remember her as the one with no presence.
She is an expert in red wine. After graduation, she study more about red wine and met her husband. They fell in love, got married and had a child.
Unfortunately, her husband passed away. Her husband comes from a family that produced tradiotional japanese liquor.
His father is against red wine and is one of those hardcore purist. This resulted in her husband leaving his family because of the differing view.
With her husband death, his son is the heir. So the grandfather tries to kidnap him.
She runs away with her son. She saw shino on tv and decided to visit his tokyo branch. On the spur of the moment, she decided to entrust her son to him for a short while. But she collapsed and woke up in the hospital. So, she couldn't pick up her son immediately.
The gangs meet up in the baby's grandfather place to try to settle the issue.
He asked them to not meddle and say some bad things about red wine etc. This prompt shinomiya and Hinako to make him dishes to show off the goodness of red wine with japanese cuisine.
They managed to convinced him. The old man realise his narrow view about red wine and felt regretful about the fight he had with his son about the red wine.
Everything end well and the baby took to Hinako eventually. The gang see Shinomiya off at the airport. The baby calls him dad. (His biological dad look exactly like Shinomiya. No wonder he got confused)
The old man also tried to ask Hinako out on a date.lol
Next mini arc:
It's Silvette 20th birthday soon. Being the utterly dense person he is, Shinomiya didn't get the memo much to her chagrin. Leroy had to point out to him. He eventually got the hint but just congrats her which piss her off. Again, Leroy had to point it out to him again. She wants Shinomiya to make something for her.
He reluctant agree citing she's annoying.
A cake? Silvette immediately say yes.
Shinomiya remark that he's no good in making sweets despite learning it in Tootsuki. He find it differ from his goals and France's sweets are way too sweet for Japanese tastebud.
He plan to take it as a study or sort. Silvette recommend her friend who is a pastry chef to assist him. The friend is the same age as Leroy.
They studied and experiment on different cakes for days.
That girl cooking philosophy is to make a dish that make the person who eats it smile. She see Silvette as someone who is gentle & kind despite her outward appearance.
Shinomiya just see her as a bossy ojou sama.
At one point, Shinomiya and Leroy walks in on Silvette changing. Leroy got embarrased but no reaction from Shino. (Dude is asexual.lol)
On her birthday, Shinomiya managed to bake her a cake that she likes which resulted in her smiling.(The ship flag is raised.lol) Shinomiya comments he unexpectedly learn something from sweets.
Leroy is taking down the decoration and he comments that Shinomiya is amazing and that he didn't do much...
This prompt the girl to asked him what qualification he has to be by Shinomiya's side...

Since this is canon, Shinomiya has stated that when it comes to dating,he prefers girls. He's NOT averse to dating but he is not activately searching for romance either. He is also extremely dense when it comes to romantic situation. ( Hinako being very close to him and the whole one-sided love with Silvette)
But Donota has stated that he has been in relationships that ultimately failed.
I guess he stop being utterly dense eventually to pursue a relationship.
