I'm going to check out Hyougemono & Yamikin Ushijima-kun since those are the only ones with scans. It's a good chance that the winners will get published in English just like last years winners. Viz is good at picking up titles for their signature imprint.

If the winner is Kodansha we may never see it in this country. If it is Shogkukan/Shueisha or one of the smaller publishers than I would expect VIZ to license it.

What about Kodansha's plan to start an American branch over here? I thought that was still a go. Or was that just rumor?

They have started a U.S. branch. So far they've reissued Ghost in the Shell and volume 1 of Akira. Official word is that it will only be an archival imprint. But, the licensing agreement with Del Ray expires at the end of the year. I expect them to directly release new manga after that. In the mean time I don't expect a lot of ongoing Kodansha Comics to be licensed.

Yeah, the Kodansha titles are in a hopeless situation in the US. I don't understand the Kodansha's politics. A hungarian manga publisher have contacted with them but they not even respond back! (Probably we're too little for them? - But Shogakukan and Shueisha and other little publishers why did it?)

Oh, frakk, but how many good titles they have... (and Del Rey not use their good situation, they just licensed a few manga and the release speed was so slow) T_T

Vinland Saga, Ahiru no Sora etc.. owww T_T

Congratulations to Arakawa-sensei! She and FMA totally deserved it. :)

Wikipedia said:
Named after Osamu Tezuka, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize (手塚治虫文化賞 Tezuka Osamu Bunkashō?) is a yearly comic book prize awarded to manga artists or their works that follow the Osamu Tezuka manga approach founded and sponsored by Asahi Shimbun
What is this "Osamu Tezuka approach"? :P Unless I'm taking this statement literally, I wonder what guidelines there are. It could very well be symbolic.

I don't know what his approach was but I approve of this years winners. Takemitsu is a great manga, even better because Taiyo Matsumoto drew it. FMA is my all time favorite. I'd love to read Jin, it's supposed to be outstanding, but it's not in English.

takemetsu zamurai is a high standing manga, and Fma along with one piece is the two best shonen manga of the 21 century.
last year, I haven't recognised any manga in the winners list, this year I have already readed the three winners :D

Yamikin Ushijima-kun by MANABE Shohei. serialized in Big Comic Spirits.

-> this one is definitely worth to read. I bought and read quite some French volumes and I kinda promoted it when it didn't even had the Edited Mangas. You got get used to it because the pace isn't very fast and stories are truly told with ease. The concept is also very intriguing because of the mess people get involved with when they need Ushijima-kun

Edited Mangas of volume 1 came out about a month ago, I dl'ed and plan on reading it after I finish Touch. I read Manabe's older series, Smuggler and Dead End, both of which are excellent.

Can someone explain to me the criteria for choosing the new artist prize? I wouldn't exactly call Arakawa Hiromu a new artist. She's been in the game for at least 10 years.
