Question What can be considered canon in terms of manga or anime?

Hi!

I'm new here. Been stalking for a long while, though (years).

I was just wondering what do you guys think about the canon material related to the anime and manga?

Related to the anime we got only the OVAs, but there are also novels and spin-offs that make you think about what's canon and what's not. I know most of the stuff is approved by Isayama, but I'd like more opinions about this matter.

Well only the main storyline is truly canon, but the Ilse's notebook is considered so and I think a choice with no regrets is too now. There is nothing in before the fall or lost girls which contradicts the storyline so they may as well be considered canon too. The cooking contest I ain't so sure about and the whole school spin off obviously not.

But who cares really, so long as it keeps us entertained?

Ilse's notebook,Levi's backstory is canon as much as i know.As long as it doesn't contradict the main plot it's canon.
