Fun fact: from the creation of the Hangout Thread v.1 to the closing of v.17 it took just over five years. Version 18 was created six and a half years ago and still hasn't finished.

It's no coincidence that it was around the same time the Win thread first happened.

Still applies, but add another year and then some.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. So I didn’t know where else to ask the following question but I thought that maybe this thread would be a good place.
So a few days ago I watched a movie called “Basic Instinct” (interesting movie btw) and I mentioned it to @Charlie and while talking to him about it I mentioned that it was an erotic thriller. A couple of days later, I mentioned the movie again and he said something like “oh…that porno movie”, which I said that it was not porn, that it was an erotic film. In the end, the conclusion was that for him an erotic film is the same as a porno movie…I don’t think is the same, I think they are different. So …I got curious if I was the only one that thought like that or in the end Charlie was right.

In fairness when I think of erotic film, I kind of instantly think of porn, fair or not.

But as I understand it in a porn is all about sex, whereas in an erotic film there is more than just sex...there is a plot/story. Granted that the stories in some erotic films are very, very bad.

Well, the focus on it maybe. But I wouldn't call a feature film that's rated R even softcore pornography really.

That is my point...because I watched Basic Instinct and I didn't feel like I was watching porn...even though the sex scenes were...strong.

Yeah for some reason the cameramen are really bad in erotic films, I guess they can't afford elite crews?

Well...I think it was to do with the fact that in an erotic film, the main focus is not the sex part but in a porn movie that is exactly the main point.
And talking about the topic...I think maybe it could do with the fact that an erotic film is aimed at girls and porn movies are aimed at boys...

Not many people watch porn for the potential story-line. However, I could be wrong here, everyone has their own unique tastes after all.

If I recall the convo went something like ---

It went exactly like that and I still think an erotic film is not a porn...if not many TV shows that have had a lot of nudity and sex scenes would have to be categorized as porn.
