What Panda means is that the rules say the Lovers are "one from the Town side and one from the Mafia side", so Third Party roles like SS would be excluded... But it's not like the rules haven't been "bent" before like having Lovers from two different mafia teams, so... why not.

It does feel exotic to give a TP role another TP role as secondary though. Which really means you should expect to see it in a game sooner or later.

Those were not legit too.
My point is that it doesn't break anything if Lovers are from any team, or at least it wouldn't if the bit about winning with whatever team you like weren't there (which has only been detrimental to the role so far). Traitor being recruitable by anyone or getting only one name is another matter altogether.

So I would be inclined to be lenient towards such a decision by seeing it as a test of sorts, since I don't see much harm in it. You did something similar when you had Lovers in a game and told them they could only win together, if I'm not mistaken.

On the real, in spirit, the lover role is meant to ally two players from otherwise opposing side with one another. TP used to be a blue role, but what it means to be blue, has been bent a bit.

My earlier answer was obviously dry humor, I think the correct answer is that lovers encompass a green and a red role. No blue roles. Two red roles has been done before and it's more problematic than you'd think when mafia figures out who's other mafia. What's interesting in theory, may turn out to be less fun, functional or dynamic in practice. Takes some trial and error. You won't know if you don't try, but there's a limit to everything :catshrug

A Townie x SS or Santa sounds romantic, Gry. Makes a second lover pairing. 1 for Mafia x town. 2 for TP x Town.


:yodaCan we update the sleeper and Death Miller roles since vanilla townie are really a thing anymore?

MG Rules update:

  • Spirit Medium and Mafia Apprentice added to the Role List
  • Santa Claus is told by the host whether his present was successfully given away or not
Approved suggested role changes by @Copy Panda

  • Town Pirate description now matches Mafia Pirate variant (finds out what they stole if they did)
  • Bomb Defusers(Town and Mafia) are made aware of their role being used, but not whether their target was a Bomb or not(instead of the old way of not knowing whether you were blocked and can still use your action etc.)
  • Bar Keeper now always invites 3 players (instead of him being allowed to choose between 3, 4 or 5)
  • Investigator now reveals all hidden roles, not just Janitors (just a rewording, role basically the same)
The rewording of the rules post still needs more work before it's changed.

Another MG Rules update:

  • There are no more any penalties for claiming roles. However, doing a day command like "I shoot PlayerX!" while not being a role that can do that command will still be penalized with a hostkill.
  • Day roles that had in their descriptions that they were not allowed to be claimed were adjusted to not say that(like Politician).
  • Martyr removed from the game.
  • Bodyguard changed: The person he targets at night will now also be immune against daykills during the next day. Further adjustments may be done after some games of testing.

Or the discussion on the other thread... But the specific point about modifying the Assassin role itself has not been addressed yet, he's still the same for now.

MG Rules update

Bigger changes:
  • Lovers can now be any 2 roles as long as they're from different teams. So no 2 townies or 2 red mafias, but now allowed are 1 red + 1 orange mafia or 1 Serial Killer and 1 townie etc.
  • Pirate and Mafia Pirate now automatically join the Mason group if they stole the Mason role.
  • Mafia Apprentice description now specifies when he is allowed to pick his new role(on a night phase, but can use it the same night)
  • All the rules and role descriptions will be rewritten for better clarity sometime after the next MG(75).
Smaller changes:
  • Passing on the Unlimited Voter Disease/Not Voter Disease is now in the priority action list(with priority 2) and description slightly changed to mention how it interacts with other roles.
  • Mafia Detective and Janitor descriptions now say without a doubt that only they are given the PM of the host about what their target's role is.
  • Prosecutor now says that the Prosecutor's mark disappears from his target if the Prosecutor is daykilled before the day ends.
  • Mafia Poisoner properly says that Doctor has to protect on the night the victim is being poisoned, to avoid confusion of the term "poisoning".
  • Strongman description says he can be redirected(so atm only Bar Keeper redirect and Bodyguard saving the target).
  • Threesome Candidate description now specifies that his guesses don't count as actions for roles like Illusion, Mortician etc.

MG Rules update

Changes introduced:

1. Politician becomes a Mafia role, replacing Gambler
2. Sickly Townie
becomes a Secondary role, assignable to any Townie/Mafia/Third Party role
(Mafia Infector removed from the list of roles in testing)​
3. Mafia Mason can be recruited by Mason Recruiter
4. Mafia Poisoner
, Janitor and Strongman are able to choose between killing normally and using their ability when killing
5. Traitor (not Naive Traitor) can only win if recruited; if the last member of his assigned Mafia team dies before Traitor is recruited, Traitor dies immediately
6. Barkeeper is removed from the role list


Current rules kept:

1. Assassin is not influenced by Burden's death
2. Assassin is able to kill at Day at any time he wishes
3. Assassin will not become a Third Party role nor have a Third Party equivalent
4. Mafia Pirate dies if he tries to steal from other Mafias or Third Parties
5. Paranoid Gun Owner is not informed of having shot someone
6. Townie Lover and Threesome Candidate are not considered as Guilty for investigation/recruitment/Apprentice/Prosecutor/etc. purposes
7. Serial Killer will not be subject to any change, nor will a buffed version be included for the time being


Some additional changes as well as details on role functioning and interactions will follow soon.

1. Assassin is not influenced by Burden's death
Wait, what? You gonna keep the BS up that an Assassin can kill twice when the BURDEN of his team dies? WTF? Where is the sense in that? The Burden dying is supposed to be a punishment for Mafia not a reward! Its own role even says that all other mafia role effects will be delayed to the next night phase:

Burden (Mafia): The Burden is like the Freeman on the Mafia Side. When the Burden is lynched or killed, the next night phase will skipped. All role effects which would have happened that Night(for example Mafia Poisoner kill) are moved to the next Night phase. (GAME 31)

And guess what the Assassin needs to do a daykill? Oh, that's right. The NEXT nightphase kill! Which couldn't happen due the Burden dying! Where in all Mafia Gods name is the sense in that?!?:shin:shin:shin

MG Rules update


1.
The universal sign for closing Day Phases is a host posting "Day is over" in the thread; every post, vote, or action submitted after that point, even by a split second, is to be disregarded
2. The game always ends when a Mafia or Third Party team's living members are at least as many as the living townies, regardless of any extra votes/daykilling actions/etc. being available
3. Day/Night Phases being shortened when a few players are left alive, as well as Night Phases being ended early when all actions have been submitted, is up to the individual hosts' discretion (but notifying the players with reasonable notice is strongly encouraged)

4. If you have an active role and the Sickly secondary role, you can only use one of them per Night Phase
5. Healthy Townie remains a main Townie role
6. Mafia Pirate is able to be selected as a mafia killer until he successfully steals a role - after that point, he can only kill by indirect means if he's stolen a role with killing capabilities (Insane Doctor, Daytime Vigilante, etc.)
7. Mafia Politician PMs the host the name of a player whose vote he intends to "corrupt" onto another target, and that player's vote is automatically redirected onto that target.

Full description:
Once per Day, the Mafia Politician can steal a player's vote and place it on a target of his choosing. He PMs the Host during the Day with the name of the player whose vote he wants to steal and the new target, and the Host will publicly place the former's vote on the latter. The stolen vote follows all voting rules as if manually cast - it only gets locked if the Mafia Politician's target had already voted once, it cannot be stolen from a target who had already votelocked, and so on.

Still think the Burden-Assassin synergy needs a rework. It is dumb that a general punishment suddenly becomes a reward just because of another role being there. If it is missing it is a normal punishment for Mafia/potential reward for town if it is there town basically never want to kill Burden until Assassin is dead because they would hand mafia just another free kill with no way of blocking it as BG was unable to do his thing.

There's plenty of broken interactions that we could cover then, but generally it will be up to the host to solve anything like that ahead of time

Best to let that go for now, that rule decision is barely 2 months old, unlikely that anyone will change their mind on that anytime soon.

All interactions I can think of are currently clear by rules and interaction thread. If by broken you mean some that are very OP(like Assassin+Burden) those are up to the host to avoid or include depending on game balance and don't require further adjusting.

MAFIA GAME 2.5 PATCH NOTES: THE COUNCIL MENACE

Role Mechanic Change:

Vengeful Townie (Townie): Vengeful Townie has a one-shot kill ability they can use at night after being lynched. This kill cannot be prevented (hidden/blocked/protected) in any way.
Jesus (Townie): Can only revive once.


Removed Roles Until Further Notice:

-Time Bomb (Townie)
-Witch (Townie)
-Mafia Politician (Mafia)
-Unlimited Voter Disease (Unassigned)


A Role Cemetery section has been added to the rules to keep track of these roles and those removed in the past.

New roles:

Banshee (Townie): The Banshee can curse a player every night. When the Banshee dies, during the following phase, they can select one of the players they cursed. The selected player dies at the end of the phase. This kill cannot be prevented (hidden/blocked/protected) in any way. The Banshee can choose not to kill.

Necromancer (Townie): At night, the Necromancer can target a dead player to take their ability (as long as it's an active night action), and then use their taken night action on another player. He can do this every night, but never use the ability of the same player more than once. If he tries to take the ability of a dead player whose primary role is antagonist, nothing happens. The same applies if the role he tries to take became unusable (like a defused or already exploded kamikaze).

Related interactions:
-The Necromancer gets no PMs concerning his Necromancing.
-The priority of the Necromancer is Priority 3 like the Pirate, the taken role still has its own Priority (eg, Necromancer has Priority 3 but the Prostitute it takes is 1).
-If the Necromancer uses a Kamikaze Bomb he can explode if the original kamikaze didn't explode AND the time limit night hasn't passed.
-If the Necromancer uses a Pirate on another player he loses his necromancer ability and replaces it with the stolen one.

Mafia Noble (Mafia): The Mafia Noble is able to cast an extra vote in secret through PM to the Host. One "anonymous vote" will be added to the chosen person.

Hot Potato (Unassigned): The Hot Potato explodes at the end of a day designated by the host before the start of the game, killing the player holding it. The holder of the Hot Potato doesn't know when it will explode, but he can pass it to another player at night, separately from any night ability he has. If the holder gets killed, the Potato explodes killing both the holder and the killer; if the holder is lynched, the Potato [dies with him].

Related interactions:
-If the holder gets blocked or the receiver dies on that night, the Potato remains on the holder.
-The Potato can be defused if a Bomb Defuser targets the holder.


A Testing Roles section has been added to the rules to keep track of these roles and those that are currently being tested.

New Interactions:

-If an Anonymous vote is the last one on a lynched Bomb: The last person that isn't the anonymous explodes.
-When a Kamikaze Bomb is defused (or any sort of player that lost their ability), they can no longer do/send their night actions.
-After the Pirate steals a role, when they die they still show up as Pirate.
-After the Mafia Pirate steals a role, when they die they still show up as Mafia Pirate.

-All three of Town Lover, Town Threesome Candidate and Traitor share the same interactions. They are basically the same as any Townie, with the exception of:
-Their Secondary Role can't be stolen.
-Mentor kills them when attempting to recruit them.
-Prosecutor kills them with his ability.
-They are all recruitable by the Mason Recruiter. After this, if the Traitor gets recruited by the Mafia team, he becomes Mafia Mason.

MAFIA GAME 2.5.1 PATCH NOTES: SPECIAL EDITION

General Game Change:

If by the end of the regular time of the day phase two or more players have the same amount of votes and locked votes, the time of the regular day phase won't be extended. The lynch will be randomised among these top voted players.


Role Mechanic Change:

Threesome Candidate is now a Secondary role.


New role:

Avenger (Townie) The Avenger can select a player any night, but can only be done once. This selection is unblockable and untraceable by a Spy. If that player dies the enraged Avenger can target any other player who will die the next night. The Avenger submits their killing action during the phase after their selected player dies, but the kill itself only happens at night.


New Interaction:

-If a Spy targets a Necromancer, it only displays the name of the alive person he used the taken ability on.


The Most Important Change:

-The exact faction colours have been standarised in all rule threads to make them simpler and neater. Thank you @xi0 for your hacking skills and making this possible by adding both the standard red colour and the HEX function to the Text Colour tool.
