Just a few suggestions:
よくあるもんじゃないか: よくいるじゃない? よくいるでしょ?
ペットを持っている。:ペットを飼ってるもの。ペットと一緒にいるもの。
話すの意味があるのか:話すことに意味があるのか
低木に:木のある方へ(?) 低木may not be a common word to use in a children's story.

This is an old haiku poem by Kaga no chiyojo /(加賀千代女).

It means something like this: One summer morning, I was going to draw water from the well, I saw vines (a vine) of morning glory wrapping around the well bucket. I didn't want to cut the vine, so I went to my neighbor to get some water instead.

I love the haiku. I've always wanted to learn more (and write some satisfactory ones of my own) but just haven't got round to reading up on them yet ^^

cmertb, you actually sound like me. I am not a poet, and I don't know how to make or understand haiku (俳句, wiki) or senryu (川柳, wiki) well.

If haiku were to be expressed in a different art form, Blue II (a painting in blue with black dots and a red line) by Joan Miro would be a great one.

Utsu, are there any equivalent expressions of haiku in music?
