Introduction
So...we all know the hexagram. But Togashi introduced a fun concept on top of what we know: subcategories (Chapter 375). Subcategories are not types of Nen, just types of techniques of Nen. They don't depend (or at least it seems this way) on the Hatsu. All of them are introduced with the word gata (type) at the end. Names and translations may vary depending on where did you read it.

These subcategories can coexist with each other. For example, the Bombers were a Curse-Collaborative kind of Nen. And Greed Island was formed with...well, I assume all.
And I believe there is way more to say about this...What about those techniques that mess with Nen-spaces? Knov and Luini for example. What about Morel and Melody, what subcategories are them? I doubt they fall into nothing as their techniques are far from basic stuff. Gon, on the other hand, seems that fall into no subcategory as his technique is quite simple. Same as Killua and Hisoka. Do they have a category anyway or Hastu definition is sufficient?

Current Subcategories
These are all we know so far:
  1. Coercive: Total control of the target. A notable example is Illumi or Shalnark.
  2. Pseudo-coercive: Leaves no choice to the target but to do whatever condition was imposed.
  3. Collaborative: Using someone else to activate an ability. Tsubone comes to mind.
  4. Soliciting: Nen that allows free will of the target but leaves a condition that works in favor of the target.
  5. Symbiotic: Requires multiple people to perform a particular part of the technique, so the result is greater than the sum of parts.
    1. Fellowship: When it acts in a whole group instead of a particular target. Morena Prude is a good example.
  6. Compound: Not so many details on this one, but I believe that refers to overly ruled techniques that allow multiple effects.
  7. Counteractive: Nen's reaction to something else. If you ask me, Nobunaga seems this kind as well, as He's always waiting for the enemy to react to his en.
  8. Curse: The one we know the most about it. Kurapika, Knuckle, etc. Meet the condition and suffer the curse.
  9. Haunting: This seems to be a particular type of Curse, with its more relevant property is to be after death. (Page 16 of 389)
  10. Parasitic: Conjured beings of Nen that works similar to Curses, but not necessarily prejudicial. We know of this type through the Seed Urn effects.
  11. Scatter-Gather: Also known as Diffusive Levy (Wiki) but I like this name more. The idea is to scatter your aura to gather later. This can be tricky but besides Tyson, the other one that does this is Shaiapuf (His Spiritual Message and Beelzebub fits this concept).
  12. Exorcism: Removal of Nen. Notable users are Abengane. I wonder if this could also apply for users who can counter Coercive type of techniques
  13. Induction: Nen that allows people to have a bias for the target. Sale-sale is the main user for this, but Tyson technique also fits here.
  14. Loan: You lend someone a technique. I'm not sure if Leol would also fit here, as He coerces others to lend them their ability.
  15. Nen Beast: Nen constructs with different effects. This particular type may be broader, we will attempt to classify this a bit more later
  16. Double: The most boring of all Nen techniques, making a double out of someone. Kastro and Hanzo are notable users.
  17. Supportive: Nen that is used to buff others. Besides our boy Bill, I believe that Illumi's special needles fits here as well or Meleoron Perfect Plan.

Reorganizing
So, let's first better group the subcategories. Notice that I will add some concepts and I'm making TONS of assumptions, so feel free to add or reinterpret this as you see fit. I made this because I'm bored, and Nen classification is fun (?).
  1. Control Type (Not Manipulation, as this implies controlling someone else and not an object)
    1. Coercive
    2. Pseudo-coercive
    3. Induction
  2. Community Type (Nen that depends or can be used on more than the original user)
    1. Collaborative
    2. Soliciting
    3. Symbiotic
      1. Fellowship
    4. Supportive
  3. Legal Type (Nen that depends on conditions, limits, and bows)
    1. Compound
    2. Counteractive
    3. Exorcism (Mostly put this here as it's always dependant on rules and the number of rules to be fulfilled seems to change with the curse to be removed)
  4. Curse Type
    1. Haunting
    2. Parasitic
  5. Absorb Type (You keep the target abilities. Think of Meruem, Chrollo, and Kurapika)
    1. Loan/Transfer (I add the transfer term here, as I believe fits better. Also, Benjamin owns technique may fall under this)
    2. Steal (Chrollo and Meruem)
    3. Clone (Here is a long stretch, but I believe that Ging is able to clone techniques by understanding them)
  6. Nen Construct (Changed over Beast, so it's more general)
    1. Double
    2. Predictable: It's always the same (Think Razor, Neferpitou, Goreinu, Biscuit, Neon, etc) and always have the same effect.
    3. Adaptable: Its shape and power will depend on the target. Seed urn and Abengane fits here. It's context dependant.
    4. Scatter-Gathered (Put here as we only know this technique through the usage of nen beasts). A particular kind of nen beast able to disperse to activate its effects.

Possible new types

So what about Morel, Melody, Knov? Or even Franklin. So, maybe we can add some more types! Join the discussion and propose your own!

Combat Type:
User manifest a weapon-like object, either as a separate entity or imbued on target's body. Think on Kurapika Chains, Franklin Bullets, or Kite multiple weapon. MAYBE Killua lighting, but I'm unsure about it. The goal of this particular type is to use Nen focused on combat (as its main goal, we saw that you can fight with everything in HxH) We could also talk about separate categories:
- Close Combat Type: MAYBE Jajanken? Or Killua Thunder God.
- Range Combat: Franklin Bullets FTW.

Spatial Type: User can create/travel trough/use a Nen-made space. Notable users are Knov, Cheetu.

I haven't read everything but Biscuit(or Kurapika, I am not sure) said that spatial abilities are Conjuration or Emission abilities IIRC.

I think it's always mostly that case, but what happens with Specialization? Can you use Enhancer in a particular space to work in your favor? Would that be Manipulation or Enhancement?
I feel like it deserves to be its own subcategory as Hastu may vary and it's easy to detect spatial abilities. There was also this boxer in Greed Island that used a particular Nen writing to be able to use his technique.

Specialization can probably fit everywhere since it's pretty much "Anything which doesn't belong to the 5 other categories". I can't think of a way for Enhancement to affect space by itself.

The boxer was stated to be an Emitter. As for the writing it was needed because he was too weak.

Well, space could be Enhanced to enhance yourself. There was this guy in Yu-Yu Hakusho who imposed to talk without using some characters that IIRC also made that you can't fight there. So I imagine Togashi thought on how Nen affected space as well, enhance it is not too farfetched.

Still, even if it belongs to a single category does not imply not be part of a subcategory.

PS: Read the whole thing so you can help me to better organize subcategories and add our own :XD

My opinion is that before the exploration of the Dark Continent begins, we will have been fully introduced to the Hatsu principles:
subcategories (Chapter 375). Subcategories are not types of Nen, just type of techniques of Nen.

They don't depend (or at least it seems this way) on the hatsu.
All of them are introduced with the word gata (type) at the end.
All to prepare us for the complex use of Hatsu that we'll be seeing.

Absorb Type (You keep the target abilities. Think on Meruem, Chrollo and Kurapika)
  1. Loan/Transfer (I add the transfer term here, as I believe fits better. Also, Benjamin owns technique may fall under this)
  2. Steal (Chrollo and Meruem)
  3. Clone (Here is a long stretch, but I believe that Ging is able to clone techniques by understanding them)
Hmm, my opinion is that there's only 2 kinds of Absorb type Nen:

Loan Type (take the aura of the target and lend it to someone else)
The Nen type & "aura strength" of the target is used.
  • perfect for lending pure emission & enhancer abilities, unlike the steal type.
  • Kurapika.

Steal Type (using manipulation, conditionally seal the target's Nen and copy the desired ability)
The Nen type & "aura strength" of the user is used.
  • Since it's the user's specialization Nen type that is used to activate the ability, stealing pure emission & enhancer abilities might not be as effective.
  • Chrollo, Leol, Benjamin.
  1. Clone (Here is a long stretch, but I believe that Ging is able to clone techniques by understanding them)
Ging and Chrollo are very similar in their view of Nen abilities.

They don't try to just simply understand the ability,
they attempt to fully put themselves in the mind of the user.

I think this mindset, combined with his natural talent, is what allows him to copy simple striking abilities.

  1. Coercive: Total control of target. Notable example is Illumi or Shalnark.
  2. Pseudo-coercive: Leaves no choice to the target but to do whatever condition was imposed.
One thing that I noticed is the biggest difference between these two.

Most coercive manipulaters have to penetrate the Nen guard AND physical guard of their target, while only using a weapon smaller then a pocket knife
(needles in the majority of cases)

So once their attack lands, meaning they bypassed your body's defense, game over.

They are strong enough to penetrate your defense using only a small weapon. That's the condition most manipulators employ in order to exert total control.

  1. Pseudo-coercive: Leaves no choice to the target but to do whatever condition was imposed.
Meanwhile for pseudo-coercive types, they can activate their abilities through a variety of means, like touch.

You can break their control, but you need strong mental fortitude to prevent yourself from acting.

Baise's manipulation of her targets sexual attraction towards herself, with enough mental strength you can stop yourself from yielding to her commands.

Momoze's Nen beast, I believe that with enough mental strength you can stop yourself from following the beast's order.

For example Order Stamp:

When it's used to control a human copy, the control is pseudo-coercive.
Ask them to break: they simply deactivate the puppet, by removing the head.

Ask them to kill: They can outright refuse based on their personalities.

Other tasks: I believe the same applies as when asked to kill, depending on the ordered task and the personality of the copied person, they can outright refuse.
Kinda off topic but I found it interesting:

Most manipulators we have seen can only get full control of a living being by overpowering the target's defense with an extremely small weapon.

Other manipulators attempt to get control of a living being by overpowering the target's mental fortitude.

So what about Morel, Melody, Knov? Or even Franklin. So, maybe we can add some more types!
Melody: Induction control type?
(suggestions on what mood/emotions the target need to focus on)

Morel & Franklin: Basic Nen types?
(emit, transmute, control)

Knov/Fugetsu:
Spatial Type: User can create/travel trough/use a Nen-made space. Notable users are Knov, Cheetu.
Emitters can move space itself, but for now we should make it a sub-category of the Spatial Type.

Maybe we can add some more types! Join the discussion and propose your own!
What kind of Hatsu principles do these abilities use?

Lovely Ghost writer
Ability to locate people(Luppe Highland)
Palm's search function divination ability
Tserriednich's foresight manipulation ability

  • Future Sight type
  • Long Distance Aura Interaction type
  • Future Manipulation(perception) type
Are every organisms somehow connected, through life energy?

Is that why you can have an ability to locate people you have never met, nor ever seen before?

We've been taught 11 Nen principles:
My opinion is that before the exploration of the Dark Continent begins, we will have been fully introduced to the Hatsu principles:
All to prepare us for the complex use of Hatsu that we'll be seeing.
Interesting, what do you mean by Hatsu Principles?

I like this differentiation being made with Emission and Enhancer abilities, you're quite on point on this.

Ging and Chrollo are very similar in their view of Nen abilities. They don't try to just simply understand the ability, they attempt to fully put themselves in the mind of the user. I think this mindset, combined with his natural talent, is what allows him to copy simple striking abilities.
While I do agree their view on Nen is very very similar, Ging is not stealing the technique, he replicates it. Not only that, but He's able to go further with it. This is kinda different than Chrollo, who is also limited by the view of the original user. In a sense, Ging can clone something and work from it and Chrollo simply steals it. That's why I put it in a different subcategory because what you can do after is the main difference between the two.
Clone might not be the best wording tho.

This is interesting. I need to see coercive types against other Nen users. The closest case we have is Killua needle, which worked more as an inductive type of Nen.
All the cases that we saw of total control were against people without the knowledge of Nen, which makes bypassing defense kind of easy.

I would say Baise is more a Coercive type rather than pseudo. But we didn't see her enough to determine that :( And I'm not sure if Will is enough. At the same time, I doubt Meruem would have fallen under the effects of any coercive or pseudo-coercive techniques. Or Tserrendeich, for that matter.

This is just an opinion, but I find Coercive and Pseudo-Coercive techniques to be boring AF. Or Doubles. WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A TECHNIQUE THAT BORING.

Melody: Induction control type? (suggestions on what mood/emotions the target need to focus on)
Seems correct, actually. It doesn't force the user but induces a mood.

Morel & Franklin: Basic Nen types? (emit, transmute, control)
I like that we have a Basic type. It allows us to have a "bag" in which we can throw things like Jajanken.

Knov/Fugetsu: Emitters can move space itself, but for now we should make it a sub-category of the Spatial Type.
According to the wiki, Knov is Conjuration.

What kind of Hatsu principles do these abilities use?

Lovely Ghost writer

(Palm finding Bisky)
We could group them as Divination Type. This also allows us to put techniques like Pakunoda as well. The effect varies from technique to technique but essentially gives the user information that was not known before after meeting some conditions. This information can be the future, memories, location, etc.

So. Everything I will say from here is a fact. You don't have to believe me.

A change in pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is
transmitted undiminished to all portions of the fluid
and to the walls of its container. (Pascal’s principle)
Gon's water divination created enough pressure to crack the glass of water.

Enhancement cannot create/increase substances.
You can only enhance natural physical properties.

Enhancement water divination test done 14+ times:
Jug of water to refill the water spilled from the glass.
Bill, an Enhancer, performing the water divination test. There's a jug of water present besides the 2 glasses of water, in order to refill them for the next demonstration.

That aura is borrowed from Bill, an Enhancer, so it's not your ability.

Kurapika's Specialist water divination test:
No jug of water, as there is no need to refill.
Kurapika performing his specialist water divination. There is no jug of water present, because he was only demonstrating it once, and the result of his test was only a change in the water color and the leaf spinning.
In Enhancers and Transmuters, the Ten around the body part crucial to their attack becomes dimmer the more skilled they are. The overall volume of aura for Emitters and Manipulators is larger, and if they intentionally try to hold it back, it tends to get darker.

Wing emits his aura with malice infused in it.

Zeno emits his aura without even the slightest mischief infused in it.
There are two ways to awaken this power.

1. Slowly and Carefully (practice 3 hours/day for a year)
The volume of aura flow has clearly increased! That's the sign of someone who's learned Nen and is ready for the training to control it! Without prior knowledge, you'd think she'd practiced the basics for at least three hours every day for a year.

First, claps your right and left hands together, in whatever way
that's natural to you. We can roughly divide everyone into Nen-
learning groups of by the way they claps their hands together.
Prayers, close your eyes and imagine scooping water. Shakers, hold your hands in a circle, imagine the flow of aura in a clockwise direction. Catchers, imagine making cotton candy in the air.

Hold your hands in front of you, imagine floating a ball in the middle.

Through meditation, you learn to sense the aura you possess,
& then carefully open the nodes. Mastering the basics usually
takes around 6 months. And another 6 months to master Ten.
(Half-Awakened: first process, majority of your nodes are open)
Usually, it takes about six months at the earliest to master the basics. That is the truth.

By pointing your pointing fingers against each other and trying to feel your aura pressing against itself, the distance at which you feel your aura pressing is indicative of your current progress. 1cm distance is considered about average.

(Master Ten: second process, opening the nodes in your eyes)
Learning Nen takes time. About a year to be able to see it. 6 months to master the basics, 6 months to master Ten.

Your aura nodes will only be open to the fullest when you have mastered Ten.

Including the nodes in your eyes. That's why you'll only able to see your aura once you master Ten.

Ten feels like standing in lukewarm, viscous fluid, like wearing a weightless suit. You'll never forget those impressions.

Examples of exceptionally talented individuals:
Zushi took 3 months to complete the first process.
Normally, through meditation, you'd learn to sense the aura you possess, and then carefully open the nodes. It's the preferred way. Zushi was gifted, yet he still took 3 months by that route.

It then took Zushi another 3 months to master Ten.
Wing-san took the slow path with Zushi. Zushi was dedicated, eager, and very quick to learn. He mastered the basics in 3 months and Ten in another 3 months.

Gon & Killua had the talent to master Ten in mere days.
Wing-san had assessed Gon and Killua to possess the natural talent to master both the basics and Ten in a week. Even mere days, if he read them right.

Examples of a Nen genius naturally awakening:
Zepile unknowingly infused his aura into his counterfeit art
Anyone can produce an aura, but it's really hard to control it!! Surrounding things with aura is called Ten. It takes lots of concentration and training!! Zepile put an incredible amount of effort into making his counterfeit art. He infused them with his aura without knowing a thing about Nen, and that takes real talent!!

Komugi is a Nen genius, her Nen ability naturally awakened
Komugi's Nen ability naturally awoke as a result of her incredible dedication to being the best in the world at Gungi and as a result of Meruem pushing her to continuously improve herself like no one has ever done before.

2. Forcefully awakened (you need to quickly contain your aura)
Nen can be learned by anyone. But there are individual differences in speed, and it cannot be mastered in a day. The unorthodox method is to force it through an attack using Nen!

An experienced and non-malicious Nen user jolts your nodes
By having a Nen user emit their aura through you, they are going to jolt your nodes open.

This is a dangerous method because you'll be depleted of aura
Using this method, anyone who hasn't practiced the basics or have the talent to learn Ten in an extremely short period of time will temporarily suffer great fatigue, to the point where they won't even be able to stand.

When they jolt your nodes open, your aura will look like steam spewing from a kettle. Gushing out of your body like crazy!! That is not good at all, because at this rate you will become depleted of life energy, and once it's exhausted, you'll barely be able to stand.

Focus and imagine containing your aura. Stand comfortably
But you aren't screwed and shouldn't panic. You need to focus and imagine containing your aura! It's not hard! Just close your eyes and stand comfortably! Be at ease!

Feel the aura not as energy, but as the very blood coursing through your veins! From the top of your head, down to your right shoulder and hand, down to your leg, then up your left side. Feel the flow... Feel it gradually slow down until it swirls lazily around your core!

Standing in a neutral position is the best way to master Ten
The best position for Ten is standing in a neutral position with your eyes closed. It's the best way to master the flow of aura around your body.

Once you assimilate those feelings, you'll never forget them
Ten feels like standing in lukewarm, viscous fluid. Like wearing a weightless suit. Hold on to those impressions. Once you assimilate them, you'll be able to do this in your sleep.

(Half-Awakening the target through the use of a Nen Ability)
Since Kurapika's ability forces itself on someone, it has side effects. Using it on someone without Nen will forcibly awaken their abilities. Putting them in a Half-Awakened state if they haven't practiced the basics at all.

When forcefully Half-Awakened by someone's Nen
Ability, the length of time you'll need to master Ten
is significantly shortened, compared to being Half-
Awakened through the Slowly & Carefully method.
When forcefully Half-Awakened by someone's ability, the length of time you require to master Ten is significantly shortened.

Regardless of the innate talent / potential you are
born with, instead of the normally expected 6 (12)
months mastery time, it is possible to master Ten
in ~ a week at maximum, of practicing the basics.
Regardless of the innate talent/potential you were born with, you can master Ten in a week or weeks at maximum, of practicing the basics.

After a week of them practicing the basics everyday,
Kurapika forcibly awakened their aura using his Nen
ability, a specialist attack that Half-Awakened them.
Because they had been practicing the basics prior to being forcefully Half-Awakened, they were instantly primed to the final stages of mastering Ten.

They now just had to practice breathing exercises to gain a more efficient and conscious control of their Ten.

Because they had been practicing the basics, prior
to them being forcefully Half-Awakened, they were
instantly primed to the final step of mastering Ten.
Now, they just had to practice breathing exercises,
to gain an efficient/conscious control of their Ten.
Just like holding your breath, imagine closing off aura pores.!! And then slowly breathe out.

In one week, everyone who took the classes awakened to Nen and could use Ten.

That entire process took only one week in total. The
next step, in order for them to fully grasp Nen, is the
application of the basic manipulations of one's aura
flow & the combination of the four major principles.
The next step, in order to fully grasp Nen, is the application of the basic manipulations of one's aura flow & the combination of the four exercises.

Examples of a Nen ability induced awakening:
Kurapika's Nen ability puts the target in a Half-Awakened state
Those participating in the Nen lessons have too little training to force open the nodes while leaving them unharmed. The victims awoke to Nen as a byproduct of Kurapika's ability, which is why he was confident in them being able to use Ten in just 1 week.

Halkenburg's GSB conditionally Half-Awakens his followers
Halkenburg's GSB conditionally Half-Awakened his loyal followers Nen, but the activation was tied to the prince's actions. So even by practicing the basics, by themselves, they would not be able to learn Ten in the one week or weeks max limit.

Halkenburg's GSB conditionally awakened his Nen ability
Halkenburg couldn't use Nen before boarding the Black Whale ship. The prince gained the ability through the Nen beast. There are conditions attached to his use of the ability. The beast would never support this ability being used to directly kill a prince!

Morena's Contagion conditionally awakens Nen abilities
Morena's ability awakens the target's Nen, and later bestows them an ability. By the target wishing hard enough for what they desire, the ability will provide for them.

Example of a Nen ability influenced learning speed:
The 4th Prince's awakening speed is influenced by his GSB
In only a few minutes of practicing the basics, he was able to have great feel and control of his aura. Being able to move his aura into different parts of his body at will, even though he himself could not see his aura yet.

The prince awoke to Ten and got the hang of Gyo in half a day!

In only one week he was already applying the four exercises and trying to shorten his Zetsu response time down to the blink of an eye. He mastered this much not awakened by force, but by his own devices. His absurd learning speed was influenced by his GSB.
People Manipulation:

Self manipulation: (Control)->[Control Type]-> ‎ ‎
Aura used in [Control Type] must be equal to the target's P.O.P
P.O.P also includes their aura in (Hatsu)+Vows and Limitations

Total control
[Coercive Type]
Shalnark, Illumi, Boki, Camilla's GSB, Halkenburg
Deprive the target's freedom in both mind and body
Commonly used activation limitations:
Piercing the target with a small needle.
If your ability doesn't fall under this type, then it is a:

Active control
[Pseudo-Coercive Type]
Baise, Melody, Momoze's GSB
Take their physical freedom, or drive them

If your ability doesn't fall under this type, then it is a:

(Non-Coercive) Type
Leol, Halk's GSB, Pakunoda, Tsubone, Shoot, Ikalgo
[Coercive]
abilities that are heavily limited/restricted.
Vast majority of people manipulation are of this kind.

Learning about & utilizing Hatsu principles is the final stage of Nen.
Hatsu is your personal expression of Nen. It is greater than the sum of what you've already learned. Nen users fall into one of six broad categories: Emitter, Enhancer, Transmuter, Manipulator, Conjurer, and Specialist.

It's important to find an ability that suits you.

Interesting, what do you mean by Hatsu Principles?
The categorization of the Hatsu techniques:
Subcategories, they are not types of Nen, just type of techniques of Nen.
So, effectively, the range of different effects that you can achieve.
By using one, or combining multiple Nen Types. Like for example:

While I do agree their view on Nen is very very similar, Ging is not stealing the technique, he replicates it. Not only that, but He's able to go further with it. This is kinda different than Chrollo, who is also limited by the view of the original user. In a sense, Ging can clone something and work from it and Chrollo simply steals it. That's why I put it in a different subcategory because what you can do after is the main difference between the two.
Clone might not be the best wording tho
Ging can generally imitate any punching abilities he's been hit with
(using his talent+deep understanding, means he can improve them)

Chrollo copies mostly conjuration, manipulation, and Emission
He also tries to understand why the person created that ability
(using his Copy Type Nen ability, means he can't improve them)

That's why I think they have similar minds(exploration of prev. user)
Ging uses his natural talent like Chrollo uses his Copy Type ability.

All the cases that we saw of total control were against people without the knowledge of Nen, which makes bypassing defense kind of easy.
Which reinforces the notion.
If your aura defense is stronger, you can't get pierced.
Like Dalzollene trying to stab captured Uvo with a sword.
(of course you need Ryu to ensure you use enough aura to guard)
I would say Baise is more a Coercive type rather than pseudo. But we didn't see her enough to determine that
She wasn't forcing Squalla, but manipulating his sexual desires towards her, and using that to her advantage.
  • "Tell me about your ability! Or else I'll stop stepping on you!"
  • "I was free... So it asked me to..."
  • "Some can outright ignore the order"
I doubt Meruem would have fallen under the effects of any coercive or pseudo-coercive techniques. Or Tserrendeich, for that matter.
1) Break his aura defense.
2) Break his physical defense by sticking a needle into him.
Pretty impossible I would say, even if he was in Zetsu.

But Baise? if she kisses Meruem, her ability activates.
Can Meruem control his sudden surge of sexual desires?
I believe he does so without hesitation, easily.

WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A TECHNIQUE THAT BORING.
They say Nen abilities reflect the user's personality.

With Nen, setting conditions will allow you to use more powerful abilities. Mental, Physical, Environmental, Quantitative -- It could be anything, but the principal is High Risk, High Return.

Regardless of the innate talent/potential and Nen category you were born with, every Nen user can create or copy any abilities they desire, as long as they employ Vows and Limitations, if required.

So, Nen abilities will always reflect the true personality of the user.
If it doesn't reflect your persona, it's because of 3 possible reasons:

1. You are hiding the truer aspects of your personality.
2. You consciously created/copied an incompatible ability.
3. You are unwilling to set the limitations required for the ability.
What makes you passionate? What makes you angry? Where you travel, who you meet, what you experience... They will all serve to give shape to your Nen!

Nen abilities are highly personal. You are shaped by nature and nurture.

Neon Nostrade was heavily influenced by a fortune teller when she was a kid. Even when that fortune teller was arrested for fraud years later, it still made Neon want to be a fortune teller when she grew up. That fortune teller didn't believe in the after life and instead wrote her fortunes to help the living, Neon also believed the same.

Prince Zhang Lei has a feeling that his GSB's ability could come to affect every single citizen, but thinks it seems insignificant for now and it doesn't seem remotely useful in this succession battle. He himself has realized that it reflects his personality to a sickening degree--How he worries more about what happens after he takes the throne, long before he gets there. He believes that his GSB will exhibit maximum utility after he becomes king.

Morena's ability awakens the Hatsu of the target. By the target wishing hard enough for what they desire, the ability will provide for them. Luini wished for an ability that would take him to wherever he wanted to go to. Cashew didn't really care for such an ability, she questioned whether it was really fun to just get it over with so fast. She wants to go slowly with leveling up and wishing for her desired ability.

Rabid Dog uses paralyzing neurotoxin for his fangs. The victim will be unaffected from the neck up, so they can feel pain and fear. He didn't care to use a lethal toxin, even though he would win most of his fights the moment the toxin was injected in the target, because he enjoys torture.

Gon's idea for his JaJanken Hatsu was something Killua found childish. Even though Bisky herself has some misgivings about the ability, she emphasized that the most important thing was the fact that Gon himself liked it.
This is just an opinion, but I find Coercive and Pseudo-Coercive techniques to be boring AF. Or Doubles. WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A TECHNIQUE THAT BORING.
Kakin's judicial branch member: I'd like to at least make an effort. Who knows, maybe the king might change his mind. I feel like I have I just have to do something. ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Melody: An unusual heartbeat. A gentle, quiet tune-- unperturbed, contrary to his words. The on-the-job heartbeat of people who suppress their emotions... This one is in a league of his own. I can't rule out the possibility that he's being manipulated!

Its the creators of those abilities that I find boring.
They don't care at all about people "not on their side."
That says a lot about the personality of those users.
They view most people they "don't like" as pawns to use.

That's why I find Shalnark to be the most heartless member of the Phantom Troupe. Every other member feels some type of emotions when they directly or indirectly kill, whether it'd be satisfaction, pride, sense of duty, etc... Like for example Uvogin, despite claiming that "nothing really" goes through his mind when killing innocent people, he subsequently goes on to say that he finds killing addictive and gets the most pleasure when denying and killing people who come in search of revenge.

Shalnark on the other hand, feels absolutely nothing when he kills. He's like the spoiled rich child who discards his favorite toy the moment it breaks and immediately goes to buy another toy. He's like a person who, regardless of the job or the task given to them, feels no emotions or personal bias, only doing as they were told.

Prince Halkenburg: Drive him into a corner & his true colors will show
Halkenburg, just like Gon in most cases, both have this personality habit of letting others do the work for them, meaning, they are at their best when they driven into a corner with no other alternatives. They use this excuse to justify their violent actions, without having to feel like they are tarnishing or compromising their ideals.

Halkenburg is a contradictory person. (ch.361, no one had died yet, so how does he know? & ch.382, so he was just pretending to not have understood what "sole survivor" actually signified?) He wants to change the politics of the royal family, openly opposing them. Yet at the same time, he feels that Tserriednich is the only prince who he accepts. The only person who could emphasize with all the discontent and alienation that he felt.
Halkenburg's aspirations are problematic. They're clearly contradictory. He desires the abolition of the monarchy. This battle for the throne is a golden opportunity. But killing each other is not what he wants! He told the king he wished to withdraw, hoping it would end the contest. His sense of justice conflicts with his ambition. He's committed to his morals even if that's the long, difficult path. But that may not be what the Nen beast wants!

Halkenburg is also a pacifist. Unlike his siblings, he has no intentions of continuing with the succession battle, refusing to win his crown through bloodshed by committing fratricide and sororicide. Yet at the same time, he was willing to kill his father to start a revolution to stop the succession contest and change Kakin.
Nasubi called out Halkenburg for his contradictory behavior and personality by telling him to not let others do the work for him. Halkenburg himself needs to take action, because there is nothing more disgusting than hypocrisy. Halkenburg feeling himself slowly being driven into a corner by his father, responded by vowing to start a revolution to become a king and put a stop to this battle. He wished his father goodbye and proceeded to shoot him in the head.

When he failed, he immediately attempted suicide to escape Nasubi's machinations. However, he survived and was swayed by his father's philosophy, who told him that the lives of the princes mean little against those of the people and that whatever change Halkenburg wants to make, he must do so himself after seizing power.
When he failed at trying to kill his father, he attempted suicide, which also failed. Nasubi calmly asked his son if he had heard of the prisoner's trolley problem. Halkenburg naively assumed that his father was saying Kakin's citizens are on one track and His sibling princes are on the other. To which his father told him, do you think this is a binary choice? Heh, That's not like you to miss the obvious answer, it proves that you're not thinking straight. What must survive is the country! The people's lives always come first! The question is who pulls the lever. You cannot be king without bearing the cross. You cannot change the country without being king.

Halkenburg was driven into a corner by father's philosophy, rendering his morals irrelevant if he wanted to become king. His ability subsequently manifested as he resolved himself to win the succession contest.
After having talked to his father, he accepted his fate and steeled himself for what he had to do. The GSB approving of his host's new found resolve, conditionally awakened Halkenburg's Nen ability.

Trying to force Halkenburg into a situation where he has to pick between two choices is the worst mistake an opponent can make. It will only end up having the opposite effect.
Trying to force Halkenburg into a situation where he has to pick between two choices is the worst mistake an opponent can make. It will only end up having the opposite effect. Halkenburg was left with no other alternatives after hearing the philosophy of his father regarding what it takes to become king. He subsequently steeled himself, his Nen was awakened, and he's prepared to go all out now to achieve his goal, regardless of his belief about not wanting a bloody throne.

Rather then making him lose his resolve, a forced choice gives Halkenburg the perfect excuse to steel himself and embrace the methods required to achieve his goals. He uses this excuse to justify his actions, without having to feel like he's tarnishing or compromising his beliefs/morals.
Rather then making him lose his resolve, a forced choice gives Halkenburg the perfect excuse to fully steel himself and embrace the method required to achieve his ideals.

To make Halkenburg feel conflicted and have him lose his resolve in the process, you must present him the illusion of a freedom of choice.
For example: excuse me sir, I have a call for you... well actually there are three... First prince Benjamin, Third prince Zhang Lei and Fifth prince Tubeppa. We would normally take the calls in order of rank... but now... it could be interpreted as hostile towards the prince on hold. If the prince hangs up while waiting... it'll be a declaration of war..!

To make Halkenburg feel conflicted and have him lose his resolve in the process, you must present him the illusion of a freedom of choice. Such as, his father allowing him to do as wished when he wanted to withdraw from the succession war because he doesn't desire a bloody throne, even though it's impossible for the princes or the king to stop the succession war once it has begun.
Their heartbeat is normal. They aren't upset or agitated. There's no dissonance caused by fallacy... no fear of death. It's not that they don't think they may die...! This is the sound... of full acceptance of death...!!

Prince Momoze: Give her your free time and her true colors will show
(The 4th prince's Nen Beast doesn't "kill", but Momoze's does)

Prince Camilla: Obey my every command or commit suicide
(I want all other princes to die. Ideally, to volunteer to die)

Shalnark: I'd rather die than work for someone I don't like
(You'll be a slave. Working for the queen until you die)

Even people with teleportation abilities:
They're mostly cowards despite their confident outlook lol
  • Luini <==He'll be next to fulfill this prophecy IMO
  • Knov
  • Shoot
  • Cheetu
  • Goreinu
  • (GI) Pirate Boxer

According to the wiki, Knov is Conjuration.
I was just chiming in about the categorization of Spatial abilities:
  • Spatial Type(space creation==> occupy/travel through)
  • Spatial Type(translocation===> move space or people)

We could group them as Divination Type. This also allows us to put techniques like Pakunoda as well. The effect varies from technique to technique but essentially gives the user information that was not known before after meeting some conditions
That's great, perfectly encapsulates all those different techniques.

Small distinction between these two:
Collaborative: [Using] someone else to activate an ability. Tsubone comes to mind.
  • Collaborative: Using==> [Requires] someone.
Tsubone can't drive the vehicles by herself.
Genthru can't release the bombs by himself.
Tubeppa can't activate her Nen Beast by herself.
Halkenburg can't activate his possession Arrow by himself.

Symbiotic: [Requires] multiple people to perform a particular part of the technique, so the result is greater than the sum of parts.
  • Symbiotic: Requires==> [Using] multiple.
Golem could shoot his guns himself, but his aura would be weak.
Halkenburg doesn't require followers, but his aura would be weak.

These subcategories are the subcategories of the Nen types. I wouldn’t call them new, but rather explicit details on how each nen type has different varying applications & usage. As to why if you aren’t from that class, mastering such skills are impossible and you will reach a limit no matter what; compared to someone actually from that class is uninhibited

Also forming an Hatsu you can apply more than 1 application of a Nen type....I.e these subcategories to form your will & desire aka your hatsu.

All in All. I love Nen because after multiple examinations of the series it’s the best power supernatural power system I ever read.

From it’s suppose to take years to train & develop aura capacity, potency, flow, understanding & developing a hatsu, analyzing & understanding other Nen schools function in case of a VS..

Manipulators, Conjuring, Emission All are hella tricky ass Nen types. As anything can happen or possibly be created..Not anything but some weird ass abilities can be born

So I don’t believe all these new strong hats I’d we are seeing are new. Just over developed Nen abilities lol by Togashi. Where they are mature complex abilities or designed with specific intent. Mixed with multiple Nen class in a almost perfect blend.

As for Specialization. It doesn’t even have to fall in any of the Nen types. It’s broken & OP.

Enhancers show this principal very well:
If you're going to incorporate multiple Nen types into your ability, try to only use the basic application of the Nen types, otherwise you're severely handicapping your true potential.
Like for example:

[Enhancer] - [Compound] Type (JaJanken)==> Gon Freecs
  • Basic Type - Enhancement (Rock)
  • Basic Type - Enhancement, Transmutation (Scissors)
  • Basic Type - Enhancement, Emission (Paper)

[Enhancer] - [Compound] Type (Guanyin Bodhisattva)==> Netero
  • Construct Type - Manip, Emit, Conjure (1st to 99th)
  • Construct type - Manip, Emit, Conjure, Transmute (0 hand)

Enhancement - Basic Type (Big Bang Impact)==> Uvogin

Enhancement - Basic Type (Tiger Bite Fist)==> Kastro
[Enhancer] - [Double] Type (Double)==> Kastro

[Enhancer] - [Divination] Type (Cute Mermaid)==> Human Palm
Kastro tried to incorporate the [Double Type] into his Hatsu, without using any Vows and Limitations, even though he's an Enhancer. The result wasn't good, at all.

Human Palm focused her Hatsu mostly on the [Divination Type] despite being an Enhancer. The result wasn't as bad as Kastro's, because of the small limitations she used, and since her ability wasn't made for combat, it was easier to maintain.
(Search Divination And tracking of people her right eye has seen)

But once she was reborn as a Chimera Ants, she realized that she
was wrong about her powers, it didn't fully match her personality.
I don't think Palm uses the (searching into the past of people)
[Divination Type] anymore, instead, her Hatsu was modified:

Enhancement: Hair growth + strengthening.
Manipulation: Hair armor.
Manipulation: Looking at someone with her right eye.
Emission: Gathering information from the manipulated.
The real object became palm herself, requiring no more blood.

Manipulators, Conjuring, Emission All are hella tricky ass Nen types. As anything can happen or possibly be created..Not anything but some weird ass abilities can be born
Some Emitters & Transmuters, and most Conjurers & Manipulators are encouraged to use multiple advanced Nen types, in order to properly take advantage of their potential.

So about 2 possible cases if you want to incorporate advanced Hastu principles in your ability:

1. Have a lot of aura and master all the required categories as best as you can.

2. Employ Vows and Limitations, to improve your ability.
Like for example:

[Conjurer] - [Compound] Type (5 Chains)==> Kurapika
  • Soliciting Type (Judgement. Chain)
  • Divination Type (Dowsing Chain)
  • Coercive Type (Chain Jail)
  • Absorb Type (Steal Chain)
  • Basic Type (Holy Chain)

[Specialist] - [Copy] Type (Bandit's Secret)==> Chrollo Lucifer

[Specialist] - [Divination] Type (Lovely Ghostwriter)==> Neon

Transmutation, Emission - Basic Type (Aura Blast)==> Zeno
Transmute, Manipulate, Emit - Construct Type (Dragon Head)==> Zeno

As for Specialization. It doesn’t even have to fall in any of the Nen types. It’s broken & OP.
Nen is a product of life energy. The effects of 5 categories can be replicated by anyone, except for the specialist category. Why is that?

Is it because specialist are above normal humans? That's not the case, because anyone can become a specialist based on their life experiences.

In my opinion: Specialization isn't a real category, rather, it's a state.

What makes specialists different from other Nen users is their affinity for, or rather, the efficiency with which they can create extremely complex abilities.

The ease with which they can seemingly combine multiple Nen Types at an extremely high level.

The 5 Nen Types can be used by anyone, but a specialist can combine any of those 5 Nen Types at an absurd level:
Transmutation - aura shape control - dynamic En shape

Emit, Manipulate, Conjure, Transmute, Enhance==> (Dr. Blythe)

Manipulation, Conjuration, Enhancement==> (Terpischora)

Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Puppets)
Conjuration, Manipulation, Enhancement==> (Holy Chain)

Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Judgment Chain)

Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Dowsing Chain)

Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Steal Chain)

Conjuration, Manipulation==> (Chain Jail)

Holy Shit!! We actually agree on something!!!

props to you & others who have fresher memories or done research in these subcategories/principles of the 5 Nen Classes. It’s too much to remember all of it

Specialization. Is it’s own category. It doesn’t have to follow any of the rules of the other classes. It can be a combination of all of them or just something odd and different............It’s completely broken with few limits unlike the other classes

I'm glad we agree :D and thank you, thank you!

We haven't seen any specialist ability that "breaks" the rules of Nen:
  • If 5 different Nen masters use the [Symbiotic Type] could they create/replicate the effects of Kurapika's 5 Chains?
  • If Kurapika had an insane amount of aura, could he create/replicate Greed Island by himself?
We also haven't seen an individual manipulator, conjurer, or emitter, that can combine those 3 types at the same level/efficiency as Pakunoda:
  • Manipulators can affect memories.
  • Emitters can gather and share info (even from people's soul)
  • Conjurers can create almost anything.
None of them, individually, can match Pakunoda's mastery:
  • [Manipulation] of the memories of anything she touches.
  • [Conjuration] and [Emission] of those memories.

So let's review the changes made (I kinda like having everything classified, sorry)
  1. Absorb: Integrates target's ability.
    1. Loan/Transfer Transfer to target an ability. ie: Kurapika, Benjamin
    2. Steal/Copy Either clone or take the target's ability/es. ie: Chrollo and Meruem
  2. Basic: Direct implementation of the five schools of Hatsu. Common with Enhancers, Emission, and Transmutation users.
  3. Control: Impose users' will to the target
    1. Coercive: Total control of the target. ie: Illumi, Shalnark, Kurapika's Jail Chain
    2. Pseudo-coercive: Leaves no choice to the target but to do whatever condition was imposed ie: Kurapika's Judgement Chain
    3. Induction: Impose a bias on the target. ie: Sale-sale, Tyson
    4. Soliciting: Allows free will of the target but leaves a condition that works in favor of the target ie: Halkenburg's Feathers
  4. Community: Depends or can be used with/on more than the original user
    1. Collaborative: Requires someone else to activate an ability. ie: Tsubone, Genthru's Countdown
    2. Symbiotic: Uses multiple people to perform a particular part of the technique, so the result is greater than the sum of parts ie: Halkenburg Possession Arrow
      1. Fellowship: When it acts in a whole group instead of a particular target. ie: Morena's Contaigion
    3. Supportive: Provides a buff to the target. ie: Bill, Meleoron's Perfect Plan
  5. Compound: Techniques that allow multiple subcategories. ie: Kurapika chains (Divination, Basic, Coercive, Pseudo-Coercive and Loan Types)
  6. Counteractive: Automatic reaction to a specific situation ie: Camille
  7. Curse: Imposal of a condition or rules to activate an effect ie: Genthru's Countdown
    1. Haunting: Particular (and strong) type of Curse, with its more relevant property is to be after death. (Page 16 of 389)
    2. Parasitic: Conjured beings of Nen that works similar to Curses, but not necessarily prejudicial. We know of this type through the Seed Urn effects.
  8. Divination: Provides information (not known before) to the target ie: Palm, Pakunoda
  9. Exorcism: Removal of curse-types techniques. ie: Abengane
  10. Nen Construct: Creation of a distinct Nen entity
    1. Double: The construct is a duplicate of the target. ie: Kastro
    2. Predictable: The construct's shape, power, and effect are non-dependant on the context. ie: Razor, Neferpitou, Goreinu, Biscuit, Neon
    3. Adaptable: The construct's shape, power, and effect are dependant on the context. ie: Seed Urn, Abengane
    4. Scatter-Gathered: The construct is able to spawn other constructs. ie: Tyson
  11. Spatial: Nen that affects space/location of the target
    1. Space Creation: Either occupy or travel to a nen-made space. ie: Cheetu. Knov
    2. Translocation: Techniques that move or teleport targets. ie: "Accompany On", the technique Chrollo used to avoid in-fighting of Genei Ryodan, the boxer in Greed island

Changes:
* Removes Legal type, as Limit, Vows and Conditions are common and possible to all types for strengthening an effect or even achieve it.
* Modify wording and adding direct examples

So I don’t believe all these new strong hats I’d we are seeing are new. Just over developed Nen abilities lol by Togashi. Where they are mature complex abilities or designed with specific intent. Mixed with multiple Nen class in a almost perfect blend.
These terms help us understand better how Nen works. When I say new I refer to the concept.

Enhancers show this principal very well:
If you're going to incorporate multiple Nen types into your ability, try to only use the basic application of the Nen types, otherwise you're severely handicapping your true potential.
Exactly this. With this new concept, it's easier for us to see when a character is handicapping themselves. When we create new fan-nen techniques, we have more tools!

But once she was reborn as a Chimera Ants, she realized that she was wrong about her powers. I don't think the new Palm uses the [Divination Type] anymore, instead her ability was modified to only employ 3 basic types
Wink Blue is still Divination- It just has better conditions and limits (Limit: One Eye, Three Targets)

My opinion: Specialization is not actually a real "category"
What makes specialist different from other Nen users is their affinity for, or rather, the efficiency with which they can create extremely complex abilities.
The ease with which they can seemingly combine multiple Nen Types at an extremely high level.
This idea is also reinforced by Togashi saying that "Manipulators and Conjurers can become Specialist overtime" which are the two Hatsu that encourages more complex techniques (Which will lead to more subcategories being used)

Awesome work!! It looks great!!

Wink Blue is still Divination- It just has better conditions and limits (Limit: One Eye, Three Targets)
The Divination part was the ability to research into the past of the people manipulated. Wink Blue didn't change when she was reborn, it was always the right eye.

With palm herself becoming the mermaid, I think she was able to modify the ability to removed the [Search Divination] but kept Wink Blue.

Wink blue is similar to Secret Window, which I think only uses basic application of the Nen Types (although different combinations from Palm's of course)

@Uriel
Agreed that terms help to organize & bring better understanding.

But don’t you think these subcategories only apply to certain Nen classes....Such as Control belonging to manipulation class & Nen Construct belonging to Emisson.

With a re-read I could help. But I guess I would like to see these sub-categories assigned to their Nen classes. To fully see how Nen applications from different classe are used to create a Hatsu.

There are no absolutes. Every effect can be countered.
The different types of effects of Nen abilities are limitless.
Every Nen ability is categorizable within the Hatsu principles.
If it's a Nen ability, another student of Nen should be able to learn it as well. By that, it only means that the possibility isn't zero. Depending on what it is, it might take you 10 years to learn what someone else learned in five. Or you may never learn it at all. If you want to be serious about learning Nen, you should focus not on imitating others, but instead on reaching your true potential.

Nen principles ‎
The application of the basics and the combinations of the four exercises.

[Separate]-> Emission
[Materialize]-> Conjuration

Zetsu==> Manipulation
Ten==> Transmutation
Ren==> Enhancement

Shu==> Manipulation (Emission)
Ryu==> Manipulation
In==> Manipulation

En==> Transmutation (Ren + Ten)

Ken==> Enhancement (Ten + Ren)
Gyo==> Enhancement (Ryu) (+Ten) (+Ren)
Ko==> Enhancement (Ten + Gyo + Zetsu + Hatsu<=Potency) (+Ren)
(1) Gyo focuses aura on a part of the body. (2) The more focused it is, the more the aura tries to escape. Ten is required to contain it close to the body. Gyo without Ten expends 10% of the focused aura and also 10% of your A.O.P per seconds. (3) The rest of the body is still covered by a thin layer of aura. Zetsu shuts this off. (4) Then the part that's focused gains inherent potency through (Hatsu), because of the limitation of the rest of your body being completely defenseless, which is what makes it more powerful than regular aura.

And then... Ren... Normally, the maximum amount of additional aura you can charge into your (Ko) by using Ren is double your A.O.P amount or double your max A.O.P output.

The four exercises are Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Hatsu. You will need to work on them every day to increase the power of your Hatsu. But the key to the most technical aspects is Zetsu. It is no exaggeration to say that to master Zetsu is to master Nen.

Hatsu principles
Hatsu! Your special attack!! Your personal expression of Nen.
Genthru's ability is called Countdown: Sound of Life. He can place a bomb on a target by saying a certain keyword while touching their body.

[Manipulation + Emission]-> control
Detaching aura or construct(s) from your body will need [Emission]
Controlled & made (in)visible to various targets with [Manipulation]
Nen constructs are created with ‎[Transmutation]<-+->[Conjuration]
[Conjuration | Transmutation]->
create
His Countdown being so effective and devastating shows that he's well balanced in Emissive, Manipulative, and Conjuring abilities. His Little Flower is a Transmutative ability.

Hatsu principles utilize a mixture of the 4 advanced Nen Types:
Manipulation‏‏‎-> ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ 80% ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎<-Emission

‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎‎‎‎‎60%↕ ‎‎[↙40%↗] ‎‎↕60%‏‏‎

Conjuration-> ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ 80%‎ ‏‏‎‏‏‎‏‏‎‏‏‎ ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‏‏‎‎‎<-Transmutation
  • The specific implementation of the 4 advanced Nen Types usually depends on the creativity of the user.
  • But, some of the Hatsu principles require the user to incorporate specific Nen Type combinations.
Chain Jail's authentication process:
1. Target's subconscious knowledge [activates or not]
2. Kurapika's (sub)conscious knowledge [dies or not]

(Sub)consciously identified the "wrong" (correct) target
Kurapika is (sub)consciously aware of the "fact" that the target isn't a member of the Phantom Troupe and traps them with Chain Jail. The chain accesses the target's subconscious knowledge, which reveals that the target is, contrary to Kurapika's knowledge, actually a member of the Phantom Troupe. The ability activates.

Subconsciously identified the wrong target

Kurapika is subconsciously convinced that the target is a member of the Phantom Troupe and traps them with Chain Jail. The chain accesses the target's subconscious knowledge, which reveals that the target isn't a member of the Phantom Troupe. The ability doesn't activate and Kurapika doesnt die.

Consciously identified the wrong target

Kurapika is (sub)consciously aware of the fact that the target isn't a member of the Phantom Troupe and traps them with Chain Jail. It accesses the target's subconscious knowledge, which reveals that the target isn't a member of the Phantom Troupe. The ability doesn't activate and Kurapika dies.
Kurapika didn't know back then, but now that he made the connection... If he traps them again, he's doomed. (ch.92 pg.11)
Kurapika's Hatsu:
[Control Type] Manipulation==> (Emperor Time)

[Control Type] Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Chain Jail)

[Control Type] Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Judgment)

[Absorb Type] Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Steal Chain)

[Divination Type] Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration==> (Dowsing)
Emission is essential. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎
Manipulation is fundamental: ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎‎
There exists only one type of Nen: Manipulation. The ability to control, at will, the life energy, or aura, that suffices our bodies.

[Conjuration]
[Transmutation]
  1. Basic: Direct implementation of the five schools of Hatsu. Common with Enhancers, Emission, and Transmutation users.
  2. Control: Impose users' will to the target
    1. Coercive: Total control of the target. ie: Illumi, Shalnark, Kurapika's Jail Chain
      1. Pseudo-coercive: (obey or resist/side-effects) Take physical freedom or drive them into a situation where they have no choice ie: Momoze, Baise
      2. Soliciting: Target is made to work for the manipulator within the choices he is given ie: Halkenburg's GSB, Kurapika's Judgement Chain
      3. Induction: Impose a bias on the target. ie: Sale-sale, Tyson
  3. Absorb: Integrates target's aura/ability.
    1. Copy Clone the target's Nen ability/abilities. ie: Kurapika, Chrollo, Benjamin, Leol

    3. Loan Lend aura or/and Nen abilities to a target. ie: Kurapika, Knuckle
  4. Community: Depends on or can be used with/on more than the original user
    1. Collaborative: Requires someone else to activate an ability. ie: Tsubone, Genthru's Countdown, Halkenburg's Possession Arrow
    2. Symbiotic: Uses multiple people to perform a particular part of the technique, or to perform a fellowship, so the result is greater than the sum of its parts ie: Halkenburg's GSB, Golem's Firearms
  5. Compound: Techniques that allow multiple (Sub-Hatsu) subcategories. ie: Kurapika chains (Divination, Basic, Coercive, Soliciting, and Loan Types)
  6. Counteractive: Automatic reaction to a specific situation ie: Feitan, Welfin, Mizai, Camilla
  7. Divination: Provides information/abilities (not known before) to the target ie: Palm, Pakunoda, Pouf, Morena, Kurapika's Dowsing Chain
  8. Exorcism: Removal and manipulation of aura, conjured constructs, or curses. ie: Abengane, Rihan, Musse, Halkenburg's Possession Arrow
  9. Curse: Impose conditions or rules on another person
    1. Haunting: Peculiar and strong type of Curse, with its more relevant property activated after the death of the user(s) ie: Fukataki's Dust in the Wind: Hell Fruit
    2. Parasitic: Similar to curses and are often conjured, but not necessarily prejudicial like most curses. Feeds off that target's aura to manifest its effects ie: Seed Urn, Momoze's GSB
    3. Curse: Imposal of conditions or rules on another person to activate an effect ie: Genthru's Countdown
  10. Nen Construct: Creation of a distinct Nen entity
    1. Adaptable: The construct's shape, power, or effect are dependant on the context. ie: Seed Urn, Abengane, Rihan's Predator
    2. Diffusive: The construct is able to multiply itself or spawn other constructs. ie: Tyson
    3. Double: The construct is a duplicate of the target. ie: Kastro
    4. Predictable: The construct's shape, power, and effect are non-dependant on the context. ie: Razor, Neferpitou, Goreinu, Biscuit, Neon
  11. Spatial: Nen that affects space/location of the target
    1. Translocation: Techniques that move or teleport targets. ie: "Accompany On", the technique Chrollo used to avoid in-fighting of Genei Ryodan, the boxer in Greed island
    2. Space Creation: Either occupy or travel through a nen-made space. ie: Cheetu. Knov

‎ ‎ ‎Hatsu levels
It's a lot of effort to create something as complex as a human body out of Nen, and to move it at will... So much so that once you learn it, you can't use any other abilities.

You need a lot of focus to create a Nen double. You can make it appear at will only when you're in a normal state. But, also because he was so worn out that he could no longer disperse them over a wider area, if he stopped concentrating, the soldiers would vanish into to thin air

Kastro managed it through persistent effort and talent. But he expended most of his talent in learning this ability.

Hisoka calls it Memory Overload
Squandering memory capacity on the wrong ability can be fatal
You'll be unable to even activate your abilities in the worst case
For example, If Kurapika is a level 10 Conjurer.. the maximum level of mastery he can attain is level 8 for Transmutation, level 6 for Enhancement and Manipulation, and level 4 for Emission.... Even after he had learned them, the further they are from his own type, the less strength he would aquire.
The system's main function is to stop these types of actions:
Once you speak, the spell counts as having been used. But in the binder, you can cancel out. If you put Fluoroscopy in the binder, for example, the list of players you've met comes up on the screen. Take the card out without hitting Enter. Then the spell doesn't get cast, and you can see the list of players over and over with a single card.

When Gon initiates the attack, the fear of what's coming messes with the mind.

(Activate) + (Technique) = (Hatsu)
Knuckle lent Gon about 180 aura. 180 aura is a numerical expression of energy.

Gon's max A.O.P output is 1800 aura. But when he activates JaJanken, the moment at Jan!! the aura focused in his fist was more than 2000!!

Actually following through with the technique can use twice the activation amount. Which means that after Gon first focused 2000 aura into (Ko) on his fist, he then continued using Ren until his focused amount reach its maximum of 4000 aura, double his A.O.P amount. This doesn't change whether it's Rock or Paper!!

Normally, the maximum amount of additional aura you can:
focus into (Ko)/(En) using Ren is double your A.O.P amount
(double your A.O.P amount or double your max A.O.P output)
(using {Vows and Limitations}/(Control), you can increase it)

But, regardless of the specific Hatsu technique being used:
[Ten]/[Ren]/[Ken]/[Gyo] can only have your maximum A.O.P
(using {Vows and Limitations}/(Control), you can increase it)

Besides the APS expended:
No aura will be consumed when:
Deactivating [Ten]/[Ren]/[Ken]/[Gyo]

(Ko)
(Activate)
(While still charging before it's released/used)
the amount of aura consumed by deactivating:
will be the entirety of the amount of focused aura
(Max amount consumed is ~equal to your max A.O.P output)

(Hatsu)
(Technique)
(After it has been released/used)
the amount of aura consumed by deactivating
will be the entirety of the amount used in (Hatsu)
Emissive and Conjuring abilities, (Transmute) and (Ko)

So, except for (En), normally:
You require (Ko) to charge double your A.O.P into (Hatsu)

The entirety of the aura put into it is consumed when:
You deactivate (Emit)/(Layer)/(Conjure)/(Transmute)/(Ko)

For example:
Gon naturally burned 12k in 20 minutes. (10APS)
On top of that APS, he used 4 JaJanken.

His Ken is ~1800, but limitations boost it to ~2000.
He spent 5500 aura in the first 3 tries of JaJanken:
(And thus, ~1800 aura is spent to activate his Hatsu)

1) (Activate), interrupted before he used it.
2) (Activate), he only activated it for a feint.
3) (Activate), Knuckle quickly stopped that.
[12k + 1.8k + 1.8k + 1.8k = ~17.5k aura spent so far]
That totals 17500 aura so far!! And Gon was exhausted before he fired the fourth, Round 2

[
That totals 12k + ~5.5k = ~17.5k aura spent so far]

4) (Activate), he then used JaJanken Paper (Technique)
(All the aura spent is factored into the released energy)

1.1) (Activate) = ~1800 aura spent.
2.1) (Activate) = ~1800 aura spent.
3.1) (Activate) = ~1800 aura spent.
4.1) (Activate) + (Technique) = 4000 aura spent ‎[500 released]
[12k + 1.8k + 1.8k + 1.8k + 2k + 2k = ~21.5k aura spent so far.]

[
12k + ~5.5k + 4k = ~21.5k aura.]
5) (Activate) = No more aura left.
Ran out of aura prior to activating.
Gon's maximum P.O.P was ~21.5k
Once all your P.O.P is expended, you'll barely be able to stand.

A.O.P = aura released (0 of ~1800)
P.O.P = remaining fuel (0 of M.O.P)
M.O.P = max capacity (21.5k aura)
The more you get fatigued, the more your aura replenishment rate drops. In Gon's case during his training to fight Knuckle, one hour of training roughly translated to ten minute in combat

The Nen Type Effectiveness system is the combination of the:
Mental exertion (fatigue) experienced & the potency produced

1) [Efficiency] of the user's expended aura(APS)
2) [Potency] released by 1 numerical unit of aura
For example, if Kurapika at level 10 and an Emitter at level 4 used the same Emissive ability at the same time, the natural Emitter would have more effectiveness.

Nen users:
1) Expend 1 aura per seconds, normally.
2) In combat, that consumption increases.
3) Advanced techniques greatly increases it.
As you prepare for action, you expend about 1 aura per seconds! But once in combat, as you use Gyo, Ryu, Ren, Ken, etc... consumption increases. The more advanced techniques you use, the more aura you consume!

Gon's Paper is much too weak when compared to his Rock.
He puts 4k aura into Paper, the potency is only worth 500 aura.
He puts 4k into Rock, the potency released is worth 2000 aura.
Compared to Rock, Gon's Paper is much too weak. He is an Enhancer, and since Paper is Emission, it's slow and weak.

But since he lacks training and Paper is a different mode, even though he spent 4000 aura, the energy released was only worth 500 aura!!

Example: Gon is normally expending 1 aura per second

(He currently lacks training in the different Nen Types, and)
A bell curve is the ideal shape of the time spent training the types centered on your own type.

(he's also faster at learning Emit compared to Transmutation)
Leaning only refers to overall training/learning speed. Despite having 80% in both categories, Gon is faster at learning Emission compared to Transmutation

Focusing only on your own Type is not an efficient way to learn
With Nen, setting conditions will allow you to use more powerful abilities. Mental, Physical, Environmental, Quantitative -- it could be anything, but the principal is High Risk, High Return.

Conjurers/Manipulators rely the most on Vows and Limitations
For example, if Kurapika at level 10 and an Emitter at level 4 used the same Emissive ability at the same time, the natural Emitter would have more effectiveness. However, when Kurapika's eyes turn scarlet, he can use the level 4 Emissive ability at 100%, with an effectiveness equal to the Emitter.

Uvo: Higher physicality & A.O.P output (Max A.O.P put into Ko)
Level 4 Enhancement--> [Ko] @100% Potency = full power BBI
Ko vs. Ko! Unless the disparity in power is too great, a well-executed block will protect you.

Kura: Lower physicality & A.O.P output (Max A.O.P put into Ko)
Level 4 Enhancement--> [Ko] @100% Potency = fractured arm
Kurapika's smashed bones were fully healed in a flash!!

Level 4 Enhancement--> [Healing & Recovery] @100% Potency

Level 4
Enhancement--> [Ko] @60% Potency = ?????????
With Kurapika's Nen abilities as a Conjurer, he can only reinforce his body with 60% efficiency.
Vows and Limitations: (can also be Conditional / Nonbinding)
  • Increase your potency % in the required categories.
  • Increase your efficiency % in the required categories.
  • Increase your mastery level in the required categories.
  • Increase the maximum A.O.P you can currently release.
  • Increase the Nen type potency released beyond 100%
  • Increase your Nen type efficiency output beyond 0.1%
  • Reduce activation cost of your conjuration construct.
  • Reduce activation cost of your manipulation abilities.

Specialists have a unique effectiveness & maximum mastery level
It's not something you can try to learn. The trait is usually inherited. Growing up under special circumstances can have an effect on it as well. It's placed at the bottom of the Nen chart because it's more likely for Conjurers and Manipulators to turn into specialists later in life.

Kurapika's maximum level: [Conjurer state] vs. [Emperor Time]

Level 4 Emissive ability @40% effectiveness
[Level 6] Emissive ability @100% effectiveness

Level 6 Manipulative abilities @60% efficiency
[Level 8] Manipulative abilities @100% efficiency

Transmutative abilities @80% effectiveness
Transmutative abilities @100% effectiveness

Level 10 Conjuring abilities @100% efficiency
[Level 8] Conjuring abilities @100% efficiency

Level 6 Enhancement abilities @60% effectiveness
[Level 4] Enhancement abilities @100% effectiveness

All Specialists are slaves to their deepest subconscious desire
Kurapika has always wanted the power to fight to the end by himself since he was a kid, and the massacre of his clan only strengthened that desire. This obsession with obtaining what he subconsciously wants regardless of the price to pay made Kurapika a specialist, with Emperor Time being the ability that allows him to fulfill that goal.

Divine Script
The Divine Script has the power to strengthen the Nen ability
of the one who drew it, provided it is charged with their aura.
Killua: these marks on the steel sticks from the box Ging left, do they look familiar to you? Gon: yeah... there were similar markings on the thread Wing tied on my finger!! Killua: yeah. And he said he made it so using Nen would release it. Sounds like these markings have Nen-like powers. Look. The same pattern inside the ring Ging left too.

Tsezguerra: the pattern on the ring, called Divine Script, serves to augment Nen... It took the Pirate Boxer hours of intense concentration to apply it. Which means... his teleportation only works inside this ring...!! He might as well be advertising how weak he is. He's not our enemy.

Divine Script should mostly be used for the sake of convenience, rather than as a way to strengthen your (Hatsu) beyond your current capabilities, especially in battle.

Emissive ability
Level 4 => Level 6 => Level 8 => Level 10
(Emit)--> Separate aura, or conjured constructs, from your body

(Distance separated)----> Depends on user's current level
(APS expended)--> Depends on user's affinity percentage

APS expended is fueled by your P.O.P or the aura used in Hatsu
The entirety of the aura in hatsu is consumed by deactivating it
Distance separated depends on the user's Emission mastery level. The time you can keep it afloat is proportional to the strength of your Ten. The APS expended depends on your Emission affinity percentage.

Gather the aura in your body and push it out!! The more forceful it is, the more striking power the emitted aura will have. Gather the aura in the required body part all at once and emit it!! You need power to push it out, speed, and timing!!

Conjuring abilities
Level 4 => Level 6 => Level 8 => Level 10
(Layer)-> Create an image to cover your body/aura or a surface
(Conjure)-> Create a physical material object through your aura

(Amount spent)---> Depends on current level and (Construct)
(APS expended)--> Depends on the user's affinity percentage

APS expended can be fueled by your P.O.P or aura left in Hatsu.
Required to (Transmute) aura before (Layer) is used to cover it.
Your aura will only be expended to create, and to maintain, but:
All excess aura left after creating will be automatically infused.
The entirety of the aura in hatsu is consumed by deactivating it
It takes a lot of concentration, training, & time to conjure at will
Once Kurapika decided on chains, he began with imagery training. First, he fiddled with real chains -- around the clock. He felt them with his eyes closed, drew thousands of pictures. he tasted them, smelled them, rattled them, and stared at them for hours. His teacher told him to do nothing but play with them. His teacher took away the real chains once he started to dream about them every night. Eventually, he began to hallucinate them. They seemed more real as the days passed, and he could even feel and hear them. And one day, he found them conjured in his hand. Besides that, he simply trained [Ten] and [Ren] every day.

You can conjure a sword simply with a durable, sharp blade. But you might as well buy yourself an actual, high-quality sword-- no training involved. Though you can't make it appear and disappear at will.

Transmutative abilities
Level 4 => Level 6 => Level 8 => Level 10
[Ten]--> Keep your aura flowing through and around your body
(En)--> Extend Ren and then use Ten to contain and maintain it
(Shape)--> Alter the shape of your aura, properties un-changed
(Transmute)--> Change the properties of your aura as to mimic

(APS expended)--> Depends on the user's affinity percentage

APS expended is fueled by your P.O.P or the aura used in Hatsu
All the aura used in (Transmute) is consumed by deactivating it
You can put double your A.O.P into your (En) through using Ren
So: double your A.O.P amount or double your max A.O.P output
(En) is activated the moment you begin expending your [Ken]/[Ten] past their normal maximum size/length. Once (En) is activated, normally, the maximum amount of additional aura you can charge into it using Ren is double your A.O.P amount or double your max A.O.P output. The considered defenition of using (En) amongst Nen users is it having a diameter of 4+ meters and being able to be held for longer than 1 minute.

Only by using (En) can you expend the max size of [Ten] / [Ken]

‎‎‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎[Ten] and [Ken] output: ‎ ‎
Post-Rose Meruem's [Ten] and Adult Gon's [Ken]

As the amount of aura you can output increases, the size of
your Ten and Ken will become more dense and will increase
diagonally in a relatively small manner (can be compressed)
Compressing aura is a sign of skill. It doesn't affect strength
The [Ten] around his right hand is strong... the smoothness of his overall aura shows it doesn't come from inexperience, but of a characteristic of his type... a Conjurer. In Enhancers and Transmuters, the [Ten] around the body part crucial to their attack becomes dimmer the more skilled they are. The overall volume of aura for Emitters and Manipulators is larger, and if they intentionally try to hold it back, it tends to get darker.

Gon and Killua's uncompressed Ten
Gon's Ken during the palace invasion
All their aura... going back to Razor...!!

Razor's full strength Ken
Uvogin's Ken in the first panel, and his subsequent focus of aura for his Hatsu technique in the second panel
Shalnark's Ken during Autopilot
Pitou's Ken as she goes into full battle mode
Pre-Rose Meruem unleashing his Ken after feeding on a Nen user
Halkenburg and his Followers' collective/symbiotic Ken. Each person's individual Ken size is what contributed to the large diameter of symbiotic aura
Gon and Killua's uncontrollable Ren, caused by their forceful awakening while lacking knowledge and practice of the 4 Nen principles.
Adult Gon's uncontained Ren
Post-Rose Meruem's uncontained Ren

[Ren] is just uncontained aura projected outwards explosively:
Killua can't use En (according to the defenition of using En among Nen users, which is it having a diameter of 4+ meters and being able to be held for longer than 1 minute). He wasn't good at the skills required for it. So he kept his aura at his most feasible distance: 57cm. A very small area.

The limit of Nobunaga's En is the very minimum required, a diameter of only 4 meters. The striking range of his sword is 2 meters in every direction, which is perfect for him, as anything that enters his En is within the reach of his sword.

Only by using (En) can the size of aura reach a diameter of 4m

[Ren]/[Ken]/(En) naturally passes through walls & underground:
Pitou's (En) isn't circular. It could change shape like an amoeba and extend tentacles...

A piece could extend 2km.

Pitou's (En), if only focused on the outside, would not be able to sense intruders coming from underground, because it's not large enough for it to be extended into the shape that would be required.

The king thus changed his mind and allowed Pitou's (En) to only go up to the first floor. Then they'll be able to extend their (En) underground, as it has to cover a much simpler shape, compared to the king's previous complicated orders.

Palm and Ikalgo have to get away!! Before Meruem uses (En) again!! Their only chance!! They could never get away from that (En) on an open field!! It might not reach them deep underground!!

Marcos had told them where to go. Now, Ikalgo and Palm drove through the 5km long tunnel in a truck.

Zeno: hmm... I'll have to use (En), even though it uses more effort than I can spare. Let's start on the roof and corner him down in the basement. Silva: that's a radius of 100 meters. Can you handle it, dad? Zeno: are you kidding? I could do a radius of 300 meters easy.

(Emit) could also do that. But, the aura must be extremely thin:
Leorio controls his aura, emitting it in extremely thin amounts/layers, at a quick consistent speed while simultaneously shaping it.

(En)
The smaller the object, the harder it'll be to discern:
That object or any objects that might be inside of it
This also applies to objects tightly packed together
(En) lets you sense/feel the shape and movement of everything within a certain distance. A true master can count with his eyes closed the number of leaves falling around him, and detect an assassin 50 meters away.

Because of how close together the crates in this massive full warehouse are packed, it will be harder to use (En) to effectively search for a specific object within those crates, especially if the content within the crates are also tightly packed together.

Palm and Ikalgo put Komugi in a small tight shipping crate that was completely padded with heavy bed sheets wrapped all around her using ropes, except for her head, so she could breathe. Because of how tight the content of the crate was packed and where it was stored, in a massive full warehouse, it will be harder to use (En) to effectively search for a specific object within those crates, even if that object is a person (provided they aren't making any movements)

Prince Fugestu appearing in prince Kacho's spacious bedroom through the use of a Nen ability.

Keeny: more accurately... a head popped out of the bed. It was like a manhole cover being open. Melody: a Nen ability? Keeny: yeah. My (En) couldn't tell who it was.

(En) can't help you discern extremely thin stuff such as writing, images, etc... It has limitations on what it can sense/feel.

Pouf: west tower, second floor!! If we can just get through this... the king will have forgotten forever!! I can't give him a chance to see her!!

Post-Rose Meruem's (En) lit up the palace... at the speed of a flash of light.

Meruem: I will tell you in advance. The two I sensed with my (En) were an octopus and a human carrying something.

Palm: It's been about 20 minutes since the king's first (En) and we haven't been caught or killed yet. The first time, I was carrying her on my back. If the king had realized this, he would've come for me first. But he didn't. He didn't see what I was carrying because she was wrapped in my hair. Do you follow me?

Palm: It means if we cover the the girl with something, not even the king's (En) can find her.

Meruem: You are well aware that I have precious little time left. I wanted to ask you instead of searching for her myself.

The king's (En) could transform aura into countless photons. He had learned of this property the first two times he had used it. The photons persisted in the air, emitting traces of aura and attaching to objects. this enabled him to read any data, from physical properties to emotions. The more photons attached to the object, the greater the precision. And he was improving rapidly.

By scattering a trace of new photons... finding someone showered with photons from his first (En) was all too easy.

(Shape)
Allows you to write with aura

Nen has many facets... Normally, the maximum amount of additional aura you can charge into (Ko)/(En) using Ren is double your A.O.P amount or double your max A.O.P output. But, through Vows and Limitations, or (Control), you can increase it

(Transmute) can be harmful to both the user & their opponent:
Unless they have the proper defense or they use manipulation.
Rabid Dog modifies the properties of his saliva into a tranquilizer using Transmutation. His filed teeth then injects the saliva into the target. He is immune to the effects of his own transmutation by using manipulation.

How come Genthru doesn't get burned by his own explosions? Simple. He covers his hand with more aura than he uses to detonate.

You'd need years of exposure to electric shocks at torture level to learn to transmute aura into electricity.

Electricity won't work on Killua. He's been trained to withstand torture. But that only means he can tolerate it. It still hurts. And it sure doesn't make him happy.

Practicing [Ten]
You practice [Ten] by working on focusing/meditation exercises. You can meditate while using [Ten], or

You can also meditate while not using [Ten]

Mastery of [Ten] requires diligent practice. By working on focusing/meditation exercises every day, you'll be able to do [Ten] faster and more smoothly.

This is how you'll sleep, with a relatively big object hanging over your head, attached to a rope you're holding. Don't let go of the rope. You'll also have to remain aware of your surroundings and be ready for any sudden attacks. By practicing these types of exercises, you learn to keep a part of your brain ever vigilant, even at rest! This will help you to maintain your [Ten] subconsciously, even while you sleep.

[Ten] is at most 10% of your max A.O.P around your body
You normally have, say, 10% of your aura around your body.

Manipulative abilities
Level 4
{Vows and Limitations}-> State a self-imposed rule to abide by
[Zetsu]--> Completely shut off the flow of aura from your body
[Ryu]--> Redistribute your aura according to a percentage rule
(In)--> Render your Nen imperceptible, effectively concealing it
(Shu)--> Infuse your emitted aura into objects and other people
(Control)--> Control the actions of your aura/conjuration at will
(Command)-> Issue orders to your aura or conjured constructs
(Autonomy)-> Grant self-governance to your aura / conjuration
(LVL 4 Manipulation)--> Effect

Level 6
(LVL 6 Manipulation)--> Effect

Level 8
(LVL 8 Manipulation)--> Effect

Level 10
(LVL 10 Manipulation)--> Effect

(APS expended)--> Depends on the user's affinity percentage

APS expended is fueled by your P.O.P or the aura used in Hatsu
Aura is only expended to manipulate when (Hatsu) is activated:
Moving objects with your aura shows you're a Manipulator.

Even using a perfect [Zetsu] can't erase your physical presence
Machi: are we being followed? Nobunaga: probably. But they haven't given themselves away. Perfect Zetsu.

Without even using (En) or any other Nen techniques, Hisoka was still able to sense Kalluto's physical presence, using only his own heightened senses, despite Kalluto hiding and having a perfect Zetsu.

This caused Kalluto to doubt the quality of his [Zetsu], to which Machi reassured him that it was in fact perfect, but just that Hisoka's a freak with abnormally heightened senses.

Meleoron erased all traces of himself, through the use of his innate chameleon invisibility and [Zetsu], yet Killua was still able to sense his physical presence.

Rhythm Echo:
A technique that creates after-images of the body through a
varying cadence of steps. This technique requires incredible
skill, timing, & concentration. You'll start with: either types of
presence, then in-between each steps, you must always use
[Zetsu], & as you complete your step, you alternate between
either types of presence again, and then repeat the process:
Silent Gaits, an assassination technique used to walk silently. It takes skill.

Physical presence->[Zetsu]->Over-presence/Bloodlust->[Zetsu]
You begin from a state of either types of presence.

As you start your step, you use and maintain [Zetsu] until you're just a moment away from completing your step.

You deactivate [Zetsu] at the exact moment you complete your step, and then you immediately alternate to use the other type of presence.

As you begin your next step, you use and maintain [Zetsu] until you're just a moment away from completing your step.

Now repeat the process
Until you are ready to take action.

Rhythm Echo is one of the assassination arts. The enemy is entranced by the afterimage created by the varying cadence of steps. An advanced application of Silent Gaits.

Dynamic Rhythm Echo:
The creation of dynamic after-images is the advanced form of
Rhythm Echo, where [Zetsu] is replaced with the active control
of your aura flow, to project your presence away from yourself:
Feitan using a dynamic Rhythm Echo, which allows him create afterimages from various angles along with them matching his extremely fast movements.

Killua using a dynamic Rhythm Echo, which allows him create afterimages from various angles at a walking pace speed, rather than in a straight line behind himself.

Practicing [Ryu]
Killua worked as both cushion and support... by distributing his aura...!! If he didn't use enough aura in his body, he wouldn't be effective as a cushion... and all three of them would've been crushed by the impact of the ball. On the other hand, if he didn't use enough aura in his legs... all three of them would've been flung outside the court. It required precise distribution of his aura... the margin of error was less than 1%!! In Nen combat, balancing aura distribution is both fundamental and hard to master. Nothing else requires as much experience and skill.

Without mastering Ryu, your aura flow control will be rudimentary. It'll fail to catch up to the speed of your attacks. The sign of someone who has no real combat experience.

Gon used JaJanken as a feint because it was obvious that Knuckle was trying to stop it by striking with his right. Gon used the long windup to his advantage by messing with the enemy's mind!

The same goes for aura. Unless you consciously hold it back, aura focuses where you tense up and balloons the moment you try to strike.

At the moment of attack, redistribute your aura as fast as you can. Try it slowly at first. But do it smoothly and precisely.

Flowing Dance: a sparring exercise purposely performed at low speed to perfect the flow of each move. A low-level student cannot adequately party a master's moves no matter how slowly he goes, so it can only be effective when practiced between people of equal skill. Don't rush! Be deliberate! Do this every day for two months, and you'll be able to perform [Ryu] at top speed.

[Gyo] and Nen combat:
Uvogin knew that the chain meant trouble. He didn't know what {Vows and Limitations} Kurapika used, but that chain was infused with an improbable amount of Nen! In Uvo's mind there was only one solution...!

No exposed flesh could stop his Big Bang Impact at full power!!! Uvo stirred up dust not only to hide his body, but to also erase all signs of approach. Kurapika didn't think Uvo could use (In), so he had just barely managed to properly block the attack. However, he, too, can use (In)

Machi and Shizuku did not deem it necessary to use [Gyo] when the two people tailing them hid, but Chrollo unwilling to take any risks whatsoever, instructed them to use [Gyo]

You need to use [Gyo] whenever something seems suspicious!

But with respect to Nen, even what you see with your own eyes isn't necessarily the truth.

Only Kurapika and Oito can see Stealth Dolphin. Whether they have Nen or not, everyone will see it as Bill using an ability!!

You never know what your adversary's ability is. A slight hesitation can cause a fatal turnabout. Having more or less aura isn't much of an excuse. The outcome is always in fluctuation. That's the essence of Nen combat!

And still... always fight like you're 100% confident you'll win!! That's how much guts you gotta have to be a Nen master.

A conjured cloak... must be a stolen ability. I should be careful until I know what it does... or so the average person would think, but... in truth he's trying to buy time.

You can only manipulate: Aura | Objects | People
A manipulator can only exert his power through people or objects, so he can never be without his weapon of choice. The object would need to be something he's used for years, or it won't be as effective. Losing the preferred weapon is often fatal.

Your aura must be infused into them before you can do so

Infusing your aura into non-users will affect them and either:
Bill is an Enhancer, he can induce the growth of his target with his Hatsu. So does that mean that using this on non-users will awaken them by opening all of their aura nodes? No, it's not as effective on untrained people, and it won't be fast enough to keep their 2 weeks Nen learning timetable. Kurapika's Hatsu allows him to infuse aura into people by borrowing a Nen ability and then lending it to them. Technically, this is an indirect attack, but it's a loan type specialist move, and the ability itself is not aggressive in nature. But it has a side effect of Half-Awakening Nen in non-users.

Illumi's Nen ability is aggressive in nature, which can be dangerous when it's used on non-users.

Open some nodes | Half-Awaken them | Open all their nodes
Half-Awakened: All your nodes are open, except in your eyes

Aura nodes have 3 states: Closed | Semi-Closed | Open
Every non-users' aura nodes are in a Semi-Closed state
Nen user's nodes will stay Open, unless, [Zetsu] is used
[Zetsu] shuts off the aura by closing the nodes. [Ren] opens the nodes wide for maximum aura production.

Gon and Killua's uncontrollable Ren, caused by their forceful awakening while lacking knowledge and practice of the 4 Nen principles.

Halkenburg's GSB conditionally Half-Awakened his loyal Followers' Nen, but the activation was tied to his actions. So even by practicing the basics, by themselves, they would not be able to learn Ten in the one week or weeks max time limit.

the nodes in your eyes can only be opened through meditation
exercises, extreme aura pressure, or, conditionally using a Nen
ability. Using [Ren] increases your aura beyond the normal leak
output, opening your nodes wide in the process. So, Nen users
aura nodes will always stay 100% wide unless they use [Zetsu]
to reduce their output below their natural leakage, or, to stop it

Nen users can let their aura naturally leak away:
By deactivating/not using [Ten], [Zetsu], and [Ren]
Every Nen user has roughly the same amount of aura leaking out per second when not using Ten, Zetsu, and Ren. With differences based on the user's trained aura output, but, overall, it's about the same. For non-users, the amount of aura that naturally leaks away is smaller compared to that of a Nen user's, because of the differences in aura nodes. So, without using Ten, Zetsu, and Ren, Nen users expend more APS compared to non-users.

APS expended through the leakage is 10% of your A.O.P output
If you want to increase your aura leak, it takes effort, maintain Ren. If you want to reduce your aura leak, it takes effort, maintain Zetsu.

To look indistinguishable from a non-user, you need to use and maintain [Zetsu] to semi-close your aura nodes, reducing the amount of aura leaking away, to an amount similar to that of a non-user. This takes skill, because of the precise control required. If you deactivate [Zetsu], then your aura leak becomes bigger, returning to normal.

'Ren' is simply having pressure applied to your aura. In use by
default, unless you use complete Zetsu. In a sense, by having
aura in use, including aura leak, [Ren] is always activated, but,
only Nen users can consciously control / reduce / increase it.

The only accurate way to discern Nen-users is to use an ability:
Looking at their aura leaks or their eyes in profile is not reliable
Because: they might be Half-Awakened, and not be aware of it.
If you can already use Nen, raise your hand...!

This is more than Nen... a skill that comes from experience... the difference between someone who can and can't use Nen can be seen most clearly around the eyes when seen in profile.

When doing meditation exercises, amateur non-users can't make that much aura right off the bat. Being able to do so indicates ones experience in controlling their aura.

Only one more secret Nen user left. This one's hiding it well. The rise of the aura above him looks natural and the flow coming from his hands look just like the uninitiated.

Looking at their aura leaks is the least reliable. It can be faked

Thin traces of aura:
Although they can't be seen without Gyo, you can still feel them with your senses.

When Gon first saw the knife, it felt wierd. So he looked at it with Gyo. Then he saw a slight aura around it.

You normally won't be able to see thin layers/traces of aura unless you use Ten powered Gyo, it is not necessary to use Ren.

Thin layers of aura only need a [Ten] powered [Gyo] to be seen.

‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎‎‎‎State of mind & aura flow:
The King's aura was so unguarded that his state of mind was easily deduced.

Zeno willingly released his aura in a neutral state, meaning, without any emotions infused into it.

The blend of 30 emotional patterns apparent in your aura flow:
can be analyzed by others through their: Senses | Sight | Touch

(Control)-->
Using (Control), Netero was able to focus every last ounce of his P.O.P into his (Hatsu)

(Control) is used to manipulate the actions of your aura at will:
To increase your maximum A.O.P output, (Control) is required.

(Control)-->(In)-->
(In) is a skill that makes aura very hard to see. It's an advanced application of [Zetsu]. (In) makes even powerful aura invisible. To see it, it's best to use [Ren] to focus your aura in your eyes. [Zetsu] can also be used to sense aura hidden by (In), but you can't counterattack, and you'll get yourself killed.

Zetsu can be used to sense aura hidden by In
En can't be used to sense aura hidden by In
(En) can't be used to sense aura hidden by (In) because if you focus on sensing them, you'll end up neglecting your [Ten]

Gon during his fight with Gido used [Zetsu] to better predict the trajectory of the tops. All of Gon's aura nodes were closed, even the normal, faint leak of aura were closed off

Gon had absolutely no defense against Nen. He used [Zetsu] because to feel all the tops' movement only by their aura, he needed to focus all of his senses on them. He couldn't afford to be distracted by [Ten]

Using [Zetsu] increased Gon's sensitivity to other people's aura, which allowed him to feel the tops. He could sense where they were going. The only thing he could do was to devote all of his resources to avoid enemy attack.

(Control)-->(Retrieve)-->
For Morel, the worst-case scenario would be if he deactivates Deep Purple but not be able to retrieve the aura!! He can't reactivate the aura until he retrieve it all back first

This limitation doesn't include forceful/automatic deactivation.
All their aura... Going back to Razor...!!

He restored the dispersed aura. Now we'll see his true power

(Retrieve) requires (Emit)
If you (Emit) your aura without using (Retrieve), then you must deactivate (Emit) to restore the aura, and doing so will consume all the aura left in (Emit)

Only aura, not including (Transmute), can be retrieved
(Retrieve) can only be used before you (Emit) your aura
It cannot be used on aura that has already been emitted
(Retrieve acts like a limitation, and also has its advantages)

(Control)-->(Emit)-->
Netero emits his aura away from himself, in its default, circular shape.

Wing emits his aura gently, like a battery boost, in a circular sheet/layer like manner.

Hisoka emitting his aura with malice in a continuous wave like flow towards Gon and Killua, who had now learned Ten and could thus protect themselves against this attack

Bloster propels himself by emitting a continuous stream of aura from his claws

Bloster can emit fast, powerful bullets of aura from his claws with a high rate of fire

(Control) the rate and the manner in which you emit your aura

(Control)-->(Emit)-->[Shape]-->
Leorio controls his aura, emitting it at a quick consistent speed while simultaneously shaping it

(Control) requires [Shape]/[Transmute] to alter your aura shape

Alter the shape of transmuted constructs:
While it's not the most cost efficient method, [Transmute]-->[Shape]-->(Control) is the most effective and easiest method used to alter your transmutation constructs and to move them, especially the smaller they are.

[Transmute]-->[Shape] or you can [Transmute]-->(Control)
The smaller your construct is, using (Control) gets harder

[Transmute]-->[Shape]-->(Control)-->
Make a pip out of aura. Make it move a bit. Change speeds and direction.

Reverse directions, change shapes and sizes. While it's not the most cost efficient method, [Transmute]-->[Shape]-->(Control) is the most effective and easiest method used to alter your transmutation constructs and to move them, especially the smaller they are.

Manipulation is the most effective way to move Transmutation

Morel's Smoke Aura:
Morel's regular smoke puppets. They are created without an aura core, unlike the Deep Purple soldiers.

He can only issue them simple commands.

(En) can be used to distinguish the transmuted smoke from living things, as there is no actual aura, just a smoke substance.

(Control)->[Transmute]->[Layer]->(Emit) ‎ ‎‎(Command) (Autonomy)

Morel's Deep Purple:
First: (Control)-->(Command)-->(Retrieve)-->(Emit)
First, Produce a ball of aura to serve as a nucleus. Then envelop it with smoke aura.

In the case of Morel's smoke aura Nen abilities, he uses [Transmute]-->(Control), this produces a free-moving smoke puppet that he can freely shape and control through the aura core imbedded into it. The smaller the Transmuted Construct is, using [Transmute]-->(Control) to shape it becomes harder than using [Transmute]-->[Shape]

Deep Purple has a maximum production of 216 bodies, but, by programming a complex command, he can only make 50 at a time for now. But they're highly effective. Because of the aura core imbedded into them, En can't distinguish them from humans, which is another advantage.

Then: (Control)-->[Transmute]-->[Layer]-->(Emit) ‎ (Autonomy)

Hisoka's Texture Surprise Healing:
(Control)-->[Transmute]-->[Shape]-->[Layer]
You can cover / overlay your constructs with a conjured layer
(Control)/[Shape]/(Transform) is used to alter the constructs.
Only using (Control) is the most efficient but also the hardest
Cover your transmuted aura construct with a conjured layer. This allows your transmuation to be visible to normal people. The conjured layer can be altered through Manipulation, Manipulation & Transmuation, Manipulation & Conjuration, or Manipulation & Transmuation & Conjuration. Using only (Control) is the most cost efficient method, but it's also the hardest to master.

(Control) ‎ ‎ ‎)->[Shape] ‎ ‎ ‎ )->(Transform) ‎‎ ‎ )->[Shape]->(Transform)

[Transmute]-->[Layer]-->
For why [Transmute]-->[Layer] can actually be more cost efficient than [Conjure]-->(Transform) depending on the purpose/goal of your Hatsu | Refer to the Nen Type Effectiveness Example

Is more efficient than [Conjure]-->(Transform)--> in some cases

(Control)-->(Transform)-> Alter the form of [Conjure]/[Layer]
(Transform) must be activated to alter the form of [Conjure]
[Conjuration] your construct, use (Control) to manipulate its actions, then use (Transform) to alter the form of your conjuration. If required, additional aura will be consumed through [Conjuration] to fuel (Transform)

[Conjuration]-->(Control)-->(Transform)-->
(Aura will be consumed by [conjuration] to transform if required)

Infusing aura into real objects:
Advanced applications of Nen, like Shu, use up more energy. Get carried away and you'll find yourself quickly depleted of aura

Infusing aura into conjured constructs:
Aura can be infused into conjured constructs using only (Emit)-->(Control)-->(Conjure), or when not using Emission, simply (Conjure), with (Control) being used to manipulate the actions of your constructs if you wish or need to, but it is required to activate Hatsu using the infused aura.

(Control) is used to manipulate the actions of your Constructs.
Conjuration doesn't need (Emit) (Shu) to infuse aura into them:
And, when not using Emission, (Control) isn't needed to infuse:
But, (Control) is needed to activate hatsu with the infused aura

(Transmute) allows you to:
Bungee Gum allows Hisoka to shroud his aura around objects or people without requiring (Shu)

Shroud your aura around objects or people without using (Shu)
(Control) is used to manipulate the actions of your constructs.

When it's touching the target/object while connected to you:
Transmuting doesn't need (Emit) ‎(Shu) to modify properties.
Efficacy depends on their properties & your transmuted one.
Compatibility is thus just as important as Nen Type potency.
Changing the taste of water shows you're a transmuter

Rabid Dog modifies the properties of his saliva into a tranquilizer using Transmutation. His filed teeth then injects the saliva into the target.

And, once you have modified the target's/object's properties:
Neither (Emit)/(Shu) is required to maintain the modification.
Even when you are no longer connected to that target/object.
(For example, Rabid Dog modifies the properties of his saliva)

Permanence through manipulation and conjuration:
You're required to maintain your (Hatsu), otherwise:
Basho conjured fire.

Depends on your construct's properties / manipulation effects.
When Zazan died, her manipulative influence was undone, but her properties modification through transmutation remained.

(Transmute) is the most effective way of creating permanence
Camilla's Nen beast transmutes a substance that can create matter, along with reviving the user.

It is difficult to make manipulation supernatural effects persist,
instead of just inducing supernatural effects through your aura:
You need a high level manipulation ability to modify properties.

(Emit)-->(Control)-->(Shu)-->
(Control) is used to manipulate the actions of your aura at will:
(Emit) ‎‎ ‎‎(Shu) are both required to infuse your aura into objects.
User's emotional attachment improves their object's response.
Shape & function matters when (Control)/(Command) is used.
Infusing aura into real objects or conjured constructs, Nen can intensify an object's natural function and action. In this way, aura can become a source of power, like gas or batteries! The bigger the object, the more aura needs to be expended
(Curse)-->[Control Type] is required to use (Shu) on people, it's
also required to use (Shu) on objects infused with others aura

(Emit)-->(Control)-->(Shu)-->[Enhancement]-->
Through Nen, a piece of paper can become a blade. Your body can fend off harm as if clad in steel amor

Significantly increase the natural capabilities of an object

Manipulators and Conjurers:
Lowest potency but efficiently infuse.
They need to infuse more aura to compensate
Only Manipulators or Conjurers could infuse a lot of Nen into objects, because they are the most efficient at doing so, but they also have the lowest potency, so they need to compensate by infusing more aura. On the opposite end, it's much more efficient for Enhancers, Emitters, and Transmuters to infuse small amounts of aura & use smaller objects, because they have the highest potency, but they are inefficient at using (Shu), therefore they do not need to compensate by infusing more aura.

Best offensive + defensive potency
Enhancers, Emitters, and Transmuters:
Highest potency but inefficient at using (Shu)
They'll usually infuse less aura & use small objects

Gido's Hatsu/Nen ability:
Emotional attachment improves an object's response. It's relatively easy to keep those small Tops going for several hours. Gido also gave the tops additional nen, which worked as a command.

(Emit)-->(Control)-->(Shu)-->[Enhancement]-->(Command)

Low level manipulation
It's impossible to give something that's not a machine or animal a complex command, because your orders are restricted by the shape and function of the object

You can't play "Simon Says" if it's physically impossible to do so
When using "low level" manipulation, shape & function matters

Limitations & Commands
Kurapika might've been an exception to his own rules, since he'd be setting the rule after he'd stabbed himself, but he couldn't be sure about that... So he qualified it further... He will use Chain Jail only on the spiders. That means the Judgment Chain can be used on others, if he so chooses

In your rules, it's imperative to consider all possible scenarios:
Camilla's Hatsu is a Nen Beast that revives it's user in exchange for the life of the attacker. If Camilla did not consider all possible scenarios and fully clarify who would be considered the attacker in those scenarios, this could prove a fatal mistake, as the beast would have no target to attack in the worst case

Failure to fully clarify the limitations of your Hatsu can be fatal

{Vows and Limitations} can also be Conditional / Nonbinding
Because he still lacks skill in Transmutation, Killua uses a Nonbinding vow to increase how much electricity he can generate with his aura, which is equal to how much real electricity he shocks himself with.

Make a contract with self-imposed limitations.

Decide on a condition and swear that you will abide by it.

The stricter the limitation, the more power your ability will gain from it!! Just like poker or Mahjong. The more difficult the hand, the more it's worth. If applying Nen adds to your power, a contract multiplies it. Your power will skyrocket.

Make a limitation for your ability. Something that you can keep. Be warned, this is a double-edged sword. If you break your vow, the backlash might wipe out your ability to use Nen entirely.

Gon made such a terrible contract with his Nen that a mere exorcist would get killed trying to exorcise the (Curse)

A Nen (Curse) will be placed on yourself everytime you set one

[Translocation] activation cost:
Marking is one of the conditions of a teleportation(Translocation) ability. They can't jump to somewhere they haven't been before.

Aura used in your (Hatsu) must be equal to the target's P.O.P

P.O.P
P.O.P also includes the target's aura currently activated in (Hatsu) + Vows and Limitations.

P.O.P also includes their aura in (Hatsu)+Vows and Limitations

(Emit)-->(Control)-->(Shu)-->(Curse)-->[Control Type]-->
People manipulation is extremely costly without limitations:
Chrollo's a specialist who steals abilities, and he can also use those abilities for himself, but that implies a higher activation cost. He couldn't have gotten the ability otherwise. He needs to meet four conditions first

(Emit) is required to separate / detach your aura from yourself
(Control) is used to manipulate the actions of your aura at will:
(Shu) is required to infuse your emitted aura into other people:
(Curse) is required to manipulate your aura infused into others
[Control Type] is required to manipulate yourself or your Curse
Aura used in [Control Type] must be equal to the target's P.O.P

People manipulation through conjuration:
To separate your constructs from your body, (Emit) is required
(Control) is required to control the actions of your conjuration:
Conjuration doesn't require (Shu) when it's touching the target
(Curse) is required to manipulate your aura infused into others
[Control Type] is required to manipulate yourself or your Curse
Conjuration doesn't require (Shu) when it's touching the target.

Riders High: Perfect Girl Evolution, transforms the user's body into assorted vehicles. They're powered by the rider's aura

Aura used in [Control Type] must be equal to the target's P.O.P

Enhancement allows you to:
Enhance your body functions without (Control)/[Control Type]
Kurapika can simply enhance his own body through the use of his conjured chain as a catalyst. [Control Type] is not required for this because of the Enhancement Nen Type.

(Control) is usually combined with body growth enhancement
It's also usually combined with brain / memory enhancement,
Without Enhancement, you would require [Control Type] for it.
(Control) is required to enhance your aura potential / potency.

Including yourself, (Transmute) allows you to:
Magical Spa Services!! Peachy Relief: Piano Massage!! For Bisky's ability, aura is transmuted into lotion and it's combined with Enhancement, which allows the conjured Cookie-chan to affect other people without [Control Type]

Manipulate people without using (Shu)/(Curse)/[Control Type]
(Control) is used to manipulate the actions of your constructs.

‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎First Come, First Served
First Come, First Served. Manipulate yourself first, to block the enemy's ability.

)->(Control)->(Shu)->(Curse)->[Control Type]->(Direct Control)->
Self manipulation: (Control)->[Control Type]->(Direct Control)-> ‎ ‎

(Direct Control) requires [Control Type]

When the Nen ability is fully activated:
Pseudo: obey or resist/side-effects.
Coercive: total control of the target.

Direct Control vs. Direct Control
The 3 types of people manipulation:
Space-->(Autonomy | Body | Aura)
(Hatsu specific rules/distinctions)
Space
Being enclosed in a Nen space, the boundary with the real world can be classified into three categories. 1) Impermeable. 2) Permeable. 3) One-Way. If there are no visible changes, most are number 3, and you can't get back once you leave

You can impose rules onto a space, and also:
Emitters are the most proficient at moving space itself, and Conjurers are the most proficient at creating a space. The determination of being in or out of a space is most often calculated when the entire body crosses the boundary

You can directly control: Autonomy==> Body==> Aura, but:
First Come, First Served

Mizai conjures a space that controls: [Body] movement
Mizaistom's ability, Cross Game, allows him to conjure a space that controls [Body] movement
Living beings
[Manipulate living beings]
Boki, Shalnark, Illumi
Shalnark pierced the target with his antenna, fulfilling the required conditions, but yet his ability didn't activate

Shalnark's ability didn't activate even though the conditions were met, because the target was already controlled by someone else

They can directly override people's autonomy
They also gain indirect control of people's body & aura
Once the conditions of Prince Momoze's GSB's autonomy manipulation ability are met, the target loses control of their body

But, another person can override their indirect control
1. Take control of parts, or all, of the target's body (Shoot)
2. Take control of the target's aura (Knuckle, Kurapika)
Dead biengs
[Manipulate dead beings]
Pitou, Ikalgo
Pitou's ability can't bring back the dead, but it can preserve bodies from rot and manipulate them

First Come, First Served. Ikalgo's ability, allowed him control of a corpse host

They can directly manipulate a corpse's autonomy
They also gain indirect control of the corpse's body & aura
Pitou can indirectly control a corpses body and aura through her ability

But, another person can override their indirect control
1. Take control of parts, or all, of the target's body (Shoot)
Shoot's ability allows him to control the target's body. Through this ability, he can override another person's indirect body control

2. Take control of the target's aura (Knuckle, Kurapika)
Knucle's ability allows him to control the target's aura. Through this ability, he can override another person's indirect aura control
Body & Aura
[Indirect manipulation]==> Last Come, First Served.
Normally used to gather insight, buff, or attack the target.
(Autonomy manipulation is therefore not recommended)
Abilities can also overlap depending on their distinctions.

[Manipulate people's body]==> First Come, First Served.
Obtain direct control of the user's/people's body functions.
Abilities can also overlap depending on their distinctions.

(The Ortho Siblings' Tag)
(Youpi's Rage Incarnate) <--(user's left arm)
(Shoot's Hotel Rafflesia)
(Youpi's Rage Blast) <--(
user's partial body)
When it's fully activated, Musse's ability, Secret Window, directly controls the user's left eye.

All information gathered by Secret Window is relayed through the user's Transformed left eye. Therefore, if the user's left eye is under direct control of another ability, Secret Window can't be fully used/activated.

When fully activated:
Secret Window directly controls the user's left eye.
Shoot's Hotel Rafflesia can't control that same eye.

Shoot's ability, Hotel Rafflesia directly controls the target's affected body part

The opponent feels no pain and is not actually wounded, but they are deprived of the corresponding senses in that body part

[Manipulate people's aura]==> First Come, First Served.
Obtain direct control of the user's or other people's aura.
Abilities can also overlap depending on their distinctions.

3 Aura Access Types:
A.O.P
= aura released
P.O.P = remaining fuel <--(naturally replenished)
M.O.P = max capacity

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎Nen exorcism:‎ ‎ ‎
Sure. There are ways to remove Nen.

If Nen can affect people, it's not so strange that there are abilities to remove that effect. It's called exorcism. But there are few who can do it.

The user would know if and when anyone removes their Nen, but only if it's a measure they took into account and implemented when setting up their ability.
Enhancement abilities
Level 4
[Ren]--> Output a lot of aura and project it outwards explosively
[Ken]--> Contain the aura using Ten while maintaining your Ren
[Gyo]--> Using Ryu, focus a portion of your aura into a body part
(Ko)--> With Gyo, focus all of your aura into a specific body part
(Healing)--> Enhance your body's inherent physical healing rate
(Recovery)--> Enhance your body's fatigue & aura recovery rate
(LVL 4 Enhancement)--> Effect

Level 6
(LVL 6 Enhancement)--> Effect

Level 8
(LVL 8 Enhancement)--> Effect

Level 10
(LVL 10 Enhancement)--> Effect

(% of potency)---> Depends on the user's affinity combination
(APS expended)--> Depends on the user's affinity percentage

APS expended is fueled by your P.O.P or the aura used in Hatsu
The more you get fatigued, your aura replenishment rate slows.
You expend 0APS by using Zetsu to stop all your aura flow, but:
By using Ten to keep aura flowing through & around your body:
You normally expend ~ 1 aura per seconds, but, in combat, it's:
Further increased when using Ren, Ken, Ryu, or Gyo. They'll be:
Constantly in use: APS efficiency is based on your A.O.P output
Ren without Ten is wasteful, it expends 10% A.O.P per seconds
Gyo without Ten expends 10% of the focused aura & 10% A.O.P
You must deactivate [Ten], [Zetsu], & [Ren] to allow aura to leak
APS expended through the leakage is 10% of your A.O.P output
Enhancement is fundamental: it's the potency for all Nen Types
(Ko) is required to put double your A.O.P in (Hatsu), except (En)
So: double your A.O.P amount or double your max A.O.P output
The entirety of your aura in (Ko) is consumed by deactivating it
By taking the time to slowly build up your aura using (Control)/{Vows and Limitations}, it's possible to release an A.O.P amount that's greater than your usual/normal max A.O.P output.

Aura does not get automatically deactivated after striking, but:
Relax for a moment or lose your concentration, and it will get automatically deactivated.

Thus, it's very difficult to maintain (Ko) after it's been used to attack, on top of it being risky to remain in Zetsu for extended periods of time in combat.

It's also very difficult to maintain (Emit) after it's been used to attack.

"Not using Nen" in battle usually refers to only using [Ten]/[Ken]
Binolt was lucky. If Bisky had been using Gyo or other Nen techniques, she would've killed him.

While only using [Ten]/[Ken] and no other Nen techniques, Hisoka was still able to sense Kalluto's physical presence, using only his own heightened senses, despite Kalluto hiding and having a perfect Zetsu.

aura expended through physical exertion while
only using [Ten] or [Zetsu] is higher than 1 APS
but still lower than your max A.O.P output APS
as you get fatigued your consumption rate will
increase and your replenishment rate will drop
Even while only using [Ten] or [Zetsu], physical exertion leads to exhaustion/fatigue, which leads to your aura consumption rate increasing beyond 1 APS, but still lower than your maximum A.O.P output APS consumption rate.

Practicing [Ren]
Visualize energy building up in the body. Energy from each and every cell. Growing, growing... And project all this amassed energy outwards explosively. Feel the flow... feel it gradually slow down... until it swirls lazily around your core!

The timing to get [Ten] to contain all the aura built up through [Ren] is a little tricky, but the more you practice, you'll be able to output more, and the denser your aura will become. Using Ken can be done from a state of (Ten + Ren, an analogy would be trying to prevent yourself from being moved by a force pulling on you) or (Ren + Ten, an analogy would be attempting to catch an object thrown at you with great speed and from a relatively short distance away from you). When starting from a state of Ten, you must concentrate on making sure that the strength of your Ten is able to contain the pressure of your Ren, otherwise your Ren will leak away, and continue to do so if you cannot contain the pressure. When starting from a state of Ren, you must make sure that you can quickly contain the aura as it's being explosively released, or it will leak out, and continue to do so if you cannot contain the pressure. Or alternatively, you could release your aura in a gentle manner. While that would be an easier method to build up your Ken, it's a very slow and impractical process, especially in battle.

From learning Nen under wing until they became students of Bisky, Gon and Killua had only been practicing [Ten] and the timing for [Ren] every day.

They had never practiced to maintain their [Ren] until they began training under Bisky. At the start, Gon could only maintain [Ken] for about 2 minutes.

Now maintain that for three hours.

They say it takes a month to prolong [Ren] by ten minutes.

Forms of Speed:
without the use of a manipulation (Hatsu), aura cannot:
directly affect any forms of speed. It'll have an extremely
minimal effect on it, through the strengthening of natural
functions & actions. Although, you could use: a dedicated
enhancement (Hatsu) to significantly intensify the actions
that are required. Nen allows you to train your body with an
efficiency and improvement rate that would normally not be
possible without active use of aura. That is the best method
to increase your speed and power, through dedicated training
Nen can intensify an object's natural function and action.

At first, Netero spent five to six seconds to carry out his punches of gratitude. Consequently, it took over 18 hours to finish ten thousand punches on the first day.

Once done, he collapsed, exhausted. He would wake up the next day and repeat it again. After two years, he noticed a change. Even after the ten thousand punches, the sun had not set yet.

Nen combat:
Enveloping yourself evenly with aura helps to avoid major injuries in general, but doing so minimizes both your striking and defensive power. This is a weakness that can be exploited!! So what do you do? Use [Gyo]

Killua, had a slight edge in physical strength and also had far more aura than Rammot did. And aura contributes significantly to offense and defense. Because of that, Rammot was only able to deal superficial damage while they were both using [Ken], despite the fact that Killua wasn't in a state of mind to block any of Rammot's hits. Once Killua used [Gyo] against Rammot's [Ken], he was able to decapitate him with ease by ripping his head off.

From an even state of 50... here's right hand 70, body 30.

Using Gyo, change the ratio of offense and defense to suit your situation. These are the basics of combat you'll have to learn. Right hand 70, body 30!! Go!! Just an estimate will do! Left foot 80, body 20!! Head 60, body 40!!

Right foot, 55!! Right foot... 60, maybe...? Left hand, 60...!!

Right fist, 80!! left elbow, 80!!

Physical power == A.O.P output at % of potency

How come Genthru doesn't get burned by his own explosions? Simple. He covers his hand with more aura than he uses to detonate.

DP: block % is positive/negative depending on resistance
DP: calc for a positive block % varies from a negative one
DP: your maximum physicality is always in use by default

(+ A.O.P output at % potency) (+ physicality) + / - (block %)
Ko vs. Ko! Unless the disparity in power is too great, a well-executed block will protect you. But if you get hit somewhere else, you'll end up dead.

(+ A.O.P output at % potency) (+ physicality %) + (speed %)
AP: you use 100% physicality by hitting with all you've got
They both have the same A.O.P amount and potency percentage, but Gon having more speed in his punch and Knuckle holding back the power of his punch meant that they both did roughly the same amount of damage, despite Knuckle having the better overall physical power.

That punch was about 150. You paid back 150 but I gave you another 180. A net increase of 30.

Applying Nen adds to your power. (Ko) alone is dangerous, but add the fist's intrinsic power and speed...

And the attack will be far more destructive!

Say both you and your enemy's physical strengths have a value of 100, and you both also have the same A.O.P amount. You're a Conjurer with 60% mastery and the enemy is an Enhancer with 100% mastery. He then reinforces his fist with 100% of his Nen, and punches you with all he's got. This would be the equation that represents it: (100 AP + 100 SP = 200). With your conjurer affinity, you can only reinforce your body with 60% potency: (100 DP + 60 SP = 160). In other words...

You'd get damage worth 40 points even if you block the attack. (100 DP + 60 SP) - (100 AP + 100 SP) = -40
One must deal with a variety of enemies in Nen combat... The most important thing is the ability to think fast!! You must quickly select the appropriate tactic from several options, and then translate it into action!! This must become second nature to you!!

It takes less than 0.1 second from activation to attack. Yet Pitou swore, in this blink of an eye, they heard the old man say: I anticipated several offensive and defensive patterns... but that was a bad move... little ant.

Pitou was only able to capture Netero's (Action) movement speed with his eyes by infinitely compressing his awareness. Essentially stopping his internal sensation of time.

The reality was... an attack so swift... it was unavoidable.

Thought-->Reaction-->Action-->Travel. Depending on the distance and your thought/reaction speed, you can be fast enough to cover your ears before the sound reaches you!

Despite them being able to react to his attacking speed by using their intuition to anticipate where he's going to be, Knuckle and Morel's action speed was still too slow compared to Cheetu's, making their tactic ineffective.

Maintaining maximum (Reaction speed) is heavily dependent on concentration and mental state. There are many factors that can cause your reflexes to slow down, especially in combat.

Kurapika: There are too many variables to plan anything more. How you distract them is up to you, Gon. Keep them occupied for at least half a second. Better yet, one whole second.

Kurapika: or they'll notice me before I attack. The attack should take half a second to reach them. That's still enough time for them to dodge it, unless they're distracted.

The distance between Kurapika and Chrollo in the hotel lobby was just a bit shorter than the distance between them at the train station. So, the chains would've taken 0.5 seconds at the station, and at least 0.2 to 0.3 seconds in the lobby.

It was the receptionist!! The one person the Spiders weren't watching!! From that distance, the chains would've taken at least 0.2 to 0.3 seconds. Chrollo could've easily evaded them!! But the sudden darkness slowed Chrollo's reaction by a split-second. The kids were ready for it. This was carefully planned!!

To plan what your actions will be
It's the ability to observe and analyze, and to think on your feet. You need combat analysis skills!!

Post-Rose Meruem's raw movement (Action speed) was so incomprehensibly fast that before Meleoron could even think about activating his ability, he was knocked out.

Killua's Godspeed electrified his entire body, forcing speeds that transcended even the limits of his physical potential.

Speed of Lightning, which allowed him to operate his body at superhuman speeds... and, Whirlwind, which controlled his body automatically in response to his opponent's actions.

Stopping the fish dart utilized the latter. It was a previously programmed response to the malevolent intent in enemy aura. A reflex that bypassed the comparatively slow human brain.

Rather than wait for the nerves of his skin to sense the fish, which relays that signal to the brain, then processes it and transmits a command to the hand... Killua programmed the aura around his left hand to send an electric signal directly to the muscles, thus grasping the fish the instant the aura sensed it!! (Normally: the signal is routed through the nerves and the brain, delaying reaction) (In Killua's case: the aura sends a command directly to the hand, bypassing the nervous system altogether)

Since Youpi was emanating hostile emotions, Killua's Nen ability was already reacting to those emotions and in the process of carrying out the programmed command, by the time Youpi had thought to roar and activate his transformation.

Killua: (Programmed reaction to emotions)--->(Act)
Youpi: (Intensify emotions) ‎‎(Think)->(React)->(Act)
Depends on your concentration and state of mind:
To register attacks & the potential for various actions
Hisoka reacting to Chrollo's aura immediately after he deactivated [Zetsu] in order to attack from Hisoka's blindspot.

Gon's (Reaction speed) could barely keep up with Knuckle's movement speed.

Gon's (Reaction speed + Action speed) vs. Knuckle's (Action speed)
To attack, dodge, or block with minimal movements
Gon's (Action speed) was slightly lower than Knuckle's, meaning that Gon had to be perfect with his movements and reactions,

in order to counter-attack or to avoid getting hit.

The gap in speed and power between the two of them was too big, so Knuckle had to hold back, or else it would've the fight would've ended quickly.

Putting his hands together... the first motion in Netero's attack. The only move that surpasses Meruem's speed.

Using his absurd reaction and action speed, Meruem was able to move his hands into a guarding position before Netero's attack hit him.

Meruem's extreme burst of movement (Action) speed against Netero's reflex speed (Reaction)

Meruem's extreme burst of movement (Action) speed against Netero's praying and striking motion (Action) speed.

Post-Rose Meruem's (Action speed)

Post-Rose Meruem's extreme burst of movement speed is incomprehensibly fast...

It appears as if he had teleported, even though it was just a pure burst of extreme speed.
How fast you can move in a given amount of time
Pouf estimated that it should take Post-Rose Meruem 20 minutes to run back to the palace.

After Post-Meruem grew wings, Youpi estimated that it should take 15 minutes instead.

Post-Rose Meruem's (Travel speed) during flight is extremely fast, yet it is incomparable to his absurd (Action speed)

Gon, Killua, and Kite's top travel speed far outclasses that of a horse.

A character’s capabilities will remain consistent in and out
of combat. So, how does one use speed in combat terms?

The Zoldycks! The Dons called on them?! Zeno: one of the attackers is in the building. Some of the assassins you hired have already been killed. Even if you got your weapons back, I could kill the lot of you in less than seven seconds. The enemy has similar skill.

Silva, Zeno, and Chrollo's movement (Action) speed and their reflex speed (Reaction)

Silva, Zeno, and Chrollo's movement (Action) speed and their reflex speed (Reaction)

The combination of a fighter's thought speed, reflex speed,
action speed, and movement speed is their combat speed.

Gon and Machi's reflex speed (Reaction) and their movement (Action) speed.

(Speed of thought & Reaction speed & Action speed) Having anticipated the incoming gun shots and prepared himself to act, Uvogin's reaction time was heightened to its peak, which allowed him time to open his mouth and catch with his teeth, a bullet that was fired inches away from his face.

Based on the relatively short distance and the speed at which it was traveling, Rabid dog, in the stance that he was in, did not have the required action speed to dodge the bullet by moving himself out of the way. He was only fast enough to perceive the projectile (thought), react to it (reaction), and act (using his hand to block)

Uvogin's (Reaction speed) was not fast enough to perceive the sniper bullets, because they were fired from his blindspot.

At the beginning, Killua's (Reaction speed) was not fast enough to perceive the sniper bullets. But after a short time his reflexes heightened and...

He could now barely dodge the super accurate sniper bullets.

When the bullet entered this ridiculously small area of 57cm, Killua reacted and dodged with superhuman reflexes and pure speed!!

(Speed of thought) Cheetu is aware of the distance between the police officers and himself, and of the fact that they are preparing to fire their gun at him.

(Speed of thought & Reaction speed) Cheetu prepares himself to anticipate and then react to the police officers gun shots.

(Speed of thought & Reaction speed & Action speed) Having anticipated the incoming gun shots, Cheetu's reaction time was heightened to its peak, which allowed him the freedom to decide not to move until the bullets entered a ridiculously short distance away from his face. He then dodged them with superhuman action speed!!

As he dodged the bullets, he also chopped off the fingers of the officers that he passed by.

The path Cheetu took to dodge the bullets. (1) He side-stepped to dodge them from less than 10cm away from his face. (2) He then moved again to attack the police officers.

The police officers could not perceive his movements. From their perspective, he just disappeared.

They then felt a sharp pain only to realize that four fingers from their aiming hand had been sliced off.

Cheetu sliced off 16 fingers in total, from 4 police officers.

Knuckle could not even follow Cheetu with his eyes at the beginning of their fight, so he stopped trying to react to Cheetu's movements and instead began using his speed of thought to anticipate how Cheetu would move, and then acting accordingly.

Despite them being able to react to his attacking speed by using their intuition to anticipate where he's going to be, Knuckle and Morel's action speed was still too slow compared to Cheetu's, making their tactic ineffective.

Cheetu only has an average travel speed of around 125mph. Which isn't even remotely close to his average action movement speed.

People cannot always utilize their fastest action speed in
combat because of the relatively short distance between
fighters. The reverse is also true: they cannot always use
their fastest movement speed out of combat, because it
will be very exhausting, for them to maintain their speed
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
The same old simple attack based on speed?! There are plenty of options to use against it, you foot-brained hairball.

Killua attempted to kill Machi by stabbing her while she was temporarily blinded, yet she was still able to react to his bloodlust and blocked to protect her neck and eyes.

Killua stabbed Machi in the abdominal. But he couldn't get his hand out, because Machi trapped it with her muscles, restraining Killua in the process. She then proceeded to give him an advice: the darkness won't hide all that bloodlust. Besides, you should aim for the neck, though I blocked you anyway.

When you cannot compete with your opponent in speed, if you don't have a (Hatsu) to help you negate the difference in speed or to turn the situation in your favor, then a simple but effective strategy that you could use is to adopt a counteractive style. You have to risk getting hit and counter back!!

If you want to fight anyone who matters you'd have to maintain Ken for at least 30 minutes! The more you get fatigued, the more your aura replenishment rate slows.

If you get in a fist fight with a master Enhancer, you'll have little chance. Of course, this is overly simplified. Nobody's exactly equal in strength. How you feel day to day will affect you, as well as where you're fighting, and its context. Nen is even more complex.

Kurapika, an Enhancer, is not someone that focuses on training his physical strength.

Morel, a Manipulator, has immense physical strength.

Uvogin, an Enhancer, has immense physical strength.

Calculating the odds of winning in Nen combat just shows how you're missing the point.

Internal and external factors affect performance. For example, on his best day, the 3rd strongest can beat the 1st strongest on the 1st strongest's worst day. The 2nd strongest, the 3rd strongest, and the 4th strongest all have the potential to beat the 1st strongest, under the right circumstances.

In Killua's case, even if he's at equal strength, he thinks: the opponent's pretty though, or, it would be dangerous if he does this.

Killua assumes the enemy's always at their peak!! All he thinks about are the worst-case scenarios!!

Chrollo: one on one, who would win-- you or me? Zeno: me, of course. Though it would be a different story if you really were trying to kill me. Insolent brat...

Chrollo: he knew.

Skilled fighters are fully aware of their strength and how much
appropriate force is needed depending on who they're fighting
Morel: when you ran away from the other guy's Nen, that made you less than a loser-- a failure. Netero: is Gon sleeping...? Killua: he tried to attack... so I stopped him. I didn't have time to restrain myself... so I don't know when he'll wake up.

Was that punch...

The best you could do...? Is that supposed to be funny?! Don't worry, I'd say that was 20%! I'll try 50% for ya!!

[Gyo] vs. (Ko)
You better guard with Gyo...no, Ko, or you're in trouble! But where?! If you guess wrong, you could die! Seriously!!

Even if the (Physicality | Potency | A.O.P released) are all equal:
A body enveloped in aura has heightened defenses... But an attack using (Ko) is even more powerful.

(Ko), unlike regular aura, has inherent potency, gained through (Hatsu), because of the limitation of the rest of your body being completely defenseless, which is what makes it more powerful than regular aura.
Post-Mortem Nen
Nen doesn't necessarily go away when you die. Sometimes it's even reinforced after death.

When it's reinforced, it has Hatsu specific limitations/rules, but:
It's still very risky to kill someone while they're building up aura.
If someone dies holding a deep grudge, their Nen will remain. It will seek out the object of their hatred.

The results of Pitou killing Gon while the aura from his Vows and Limitations was still building up would've been unpredictable if his hatred was strong enough for his Nen to remain after his death. It is not always wise to attempt to kill someone while they're building up their aura. Their deep grudge could affect their current (Hatsu) In unpredictable ways or even create a new (Hatsu)

Hatsu examples
Grenthru is quite talented. He conjured more than 60 bombs at once!! Each is powerful enough to be fatal, and they also function as time bombs.

Grenthru's bombs are linked to the target's heart rate. If their heart beats faster due to stress or exercise, they count down faster.

Effects of conjured objects can be classified into two groups. They either work the same as actual weapons and tools, or they have a supernatural effect unique to Nen.

it's pointless to conjure something that already exists, but you can't conjure something overly supernatural. It's difficult for Conjurers to combat-effective. You'll have to decide what you want to conjure only after careful consideration. A mistake is not an option. It takes incredible concentration, training, and time to conjure something at will.

By only using the Conjuration Nen Type, you can:
combine different materials & textures to conjure:
a unique version of something that already exists,
but, the usefulness of it will be limited / inefficient
(In the worst case, you'll have to keep re-conjuring it)

(It's pointless to conjure electronics, like computers)
(you will just make an inanimate construct because)
(manipulation is required to control your constructs)

Therefore, by only using the Conjuration Nen Type:
You're only able to conjure inanimate constructs.
It's futile to make machines that use electronics.
You can't conjure something overly supernatural.
Supernatural effects are created by combining multiple Nen Types

One of the most important skills in Nen combat is:
You could focus only on your own type... But you won't have much range in techniques, and it's not even an efficient way to learn.

The depth and speed of expecting the unexpected.

Manipulators | Emitters: to take full advantage of their placement
Conjurers | Transmuters: worst placement within their groupings
Joy, Sadness, Fear, Hatred, Carelessness, Devotion, Excitement, Doubt, Pleasure, Shame, Determination--- all the emotions you're capable of factor into Nen. It might enable something beyond 100%

But that's never a good thing. Especially in combat. Using powers beyond your capacity will always cause strain! It will become a weakness, perhaps fatal. Your need consistent power to always come out on top. Would being consistent as a Conjurer help you in a battle against a master enhancer? Tough question. A Conjurer is often not as balanced in offense and defense compared to an Enhancer. On the other hand, you could be formidable if you find your groove. Conjuring a sword that can cut anything is impossible because it's beyond human capacity. Even with 100% mastery and, Vows and Limitations, there are things you cannot conjure.

The bottom line is, Enhancer don't need Vows and Limitations. They're the most balanced in offense and defense. Practice Ten and Ren, and you'll produce enough force to be quite destructive. And Gon, do not follow your friend Kurapika's example. I'm sure I don't need to tell you why.

Most Enhancers rely on their own talent.
‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
Manipulators & Conjurers rely the most on Vows and Limitations.

[Conjurer] - [Compound Type] Havoc Blades

[Levy Type] Manipulate
‎ ‎‎[Coercive]
‎ ‎‎[Curse]

The user conjures saw blades inside of their body that feed off of their Nen and energy to spin whenever the user wants. The saw blades absorb the energy and Nen of anything they touch. The Dowsing Saw can be used detect aura sources around the user.

Havoc Blades moving the user's body ignore the joints and natural body, but doesn't harm the user, they can twist their head around 40 times and be fine as long as they put it back the right way.

Vows and Limitations:
The saw blades feed off of aura to spin.

Nen abilities get stronger the more Vows and Limitations are put on them. Kite's Crazy Slots has many limitations, like the random element of the weapon selection choice, which greatly increases their effectiveness. There's also limitations on how he can use the weapons once they're chosen.

That is how Kite is so damn strong despite being a Conjurer. He takes the idea of Vows and Limitations to the next level while not limiting who he can use his ability against, unlike Kurapika, who has his Chain Jail limited exclusively to the Phantom Troupe.
These blades will need much better limitations, in order to improve the efficiency of their ability to absorb aura by touch, especially when Emission is being used. Because in its current form, and when considering the fact that all Conjurers have an affinity for: 40% Emission, 60% Manipulation, 60% Enhancement, the limitations for this ability are extremely weak, and its efficiency and potency will be the same.

[Conjurer] - [Control Type] Cloth Tapestry
Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration
(Cloth Tapestry)
[Coercive Type] Manipulate, Emit, Conjure
‎ ‎‎ ‎‎‎‎[Curse]

By using a real object, a large cloth, the user transforms the target and forcibly traps them in the cloth like a tapestry. The tapestries can take damage, and damage to the cloth that goes through to form a hole can damage things on both sides at once. However, the durability of the tapestry relates to the durability of the original person or item trapped. A tapestry of a bucket of water would not be easily burnt.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The cloth must be a real non-conjured and undyed cloth. The user also cannot wear anything when using this ability.
  • Only one thing or person can be trapped on a side at a time. Each cloth can therefore hold two people or two items.
  • The user cannot put two people in a container and count them as one item. This also doesn't allow the user trap pregnant women.
  • The durability of the tapestry relates to the durability of the original person or item trapped
  • The tapestries can take damage, and damage to the cloth that goes through to form a hole can damage things on both sides at once
This is an extremely inefficient ability for a Conjurer. Coercively manipulating someone to restrain their movements, with such simple limitations, all the while you can safely attack them without any possibility of retaliation. It's extremely inefficient to create because of the limitations that would be required to make it work. Instead of using this ability, recreating a variation of Owl's would be a better choice:

[Conjurer] - [Spatial Type] Fun Fun Cloth
Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration
(Fun Fun Cloth)
[Space Creation Type] Manipulate, Conjure, Emit
‎ ‎‎[Coercive]
‎ ‎‎[Curse]

Owl's ability is used to trap whatever ends up in the cloth in a Nen Space, whether it be an object or a living being, without any physical harm. The size of the fabric can change according to his will.

The ability works very well with his fighting style. He has a good sense of balance and remarkable athletic skills. He landed on the hood of a car during a high-speed chase while wearing flip-flops, and then jumped off just as easily.

He is also a capable fighter, one of the best serving under the Ten Dons, since he was chosen as one of their personal bodyguards.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The size of the cloth can change according to Owl's will, but once it has trapped something in the Nen space, the cloth cannot be changed from its shrunken state.
  • He can free the objects and people trapped in the Nen Space by uncovering the cloth.
As a Shadow Beast, Owl is one of the ten best Nen users within the Mafia Community, making him a fearsome opponent. His ability works best when his opponent is unaware of its effects since it has no offensive or defensive capacities but can end a fight in one shot if used properly, making sneak attacks the best course of action. It is also very handy for capture and transportation.

[Predictable Construct Type] Manipulate, Emit, Conjure
‎‎ ‎‎‎[Soliciting]
‎ ‎‎[Curse]

Welfin conjures an organic-looking missile launcher on his back with a shrunken head and four alien limbs, each holding a missile. The ability has 3 steps, if all of them are executed correctly, the missiles continuously chase the target until they hit, even if Welfin himself can no longer sense the target. However, it is possible for the ability to misfire, which occurs when Welfin incorrectly identifies the target.

Furthermore, the ability does not prevent the target from attacking Welfin except through deterrence, which means that if they are willing to be hit by the missiles, they will be able to strike first. The ability has a long set-up and is difficult to use stealthily, since it requires a verbal exchange.

Vows and Limitations:
1) Welfin establishes a target.
2) The missile is loaded with a question or an order.
3) If the target lies or defies the order, the attack begins.
  • The missiles continuously chase the target until they hit, even if Welfin himself can no longer sense the target.
  • The missiles explode upon impact, implanting live Black Centipedes in the target's head instead of dealing lethal damage.
  • The centipedes grow by feeding on the target's defiance, inflicting excruciating pain until they kill the target.
  • Should the target attempt to kill Welfin, the centipedes will instantly grow to fatal size, causing the death of the host and preventing them from carrying out their attack.
  • Welfin himself is unable to remove the centipedes once they are inside the target.
  • However, his feelings of defeat and sincerity harm the centipedes to the point that it can kill them, causing them to disappear.
Although not strictly battle-oriented, this ability allows Welfin to win a fight through simple coercion. Should the target attempt to kill him, the centipedes will instantly grow to fatal size, causing the death of the host. However, his feelings of defeat and sincerity harm the centipedes to the point that it can kill them, causing them to disappear. Welfin did not consider his ability to be invincible. In fact, he was even suspicious of his own ability, he only thought of missileman as a negotiating tool.

[Transmuter] - [Basic Type] Bungee Gum
Emission, Manipulation, Transmutation
(Bungee Gum)
[Basic Type] Manipulate, Transmute, Emit

This ability allows Hisoka to transmute his aura into a sticky and elastic substance. It is so resilient that it did not tear after absorbing the full force of a ball hurled by Gon with Rock, or several of Gotoh's coins, which makes it an effective way of returning projectiles to the sender. Bungee Gum also has a wide range of auxiliary applications.

Vows and Limitations:
  • He can only create it from his fingers, hands, and feet.
  • He can attach it both through physical contact and remotely, by flinging or extending it towards the target.
  • He can also separate it from his body, in which case it will tear after a maximum stretch of 10 meters.
  • He can give it the command to contract at will, and it snaps back with greater force the more it is stretched.
Hisoka's main ability allows him to make his aura sticky and elastic. he can only create Bungee Gum from his fingers, hands, and feet, but it can be controlled at will. Its extreme durability, flexibility, and adhesive properties make it an exceptionally versatile ability with several offensive, defensive, and auxiliary applications. Offensively, Bungee Gum can be used to pull the opponent towards Hisoka or to create flail-like weapons. He can also separate it from his body, in which case it will tear after a maximum stretch of 10 meters.

[Transmuter] - [Basic Type] How to get away with murder
Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration, Transmutation
(How to get away with murder)
[Basic Type] Manipulate, Emit, Conjure, Transmute

Yushohi conjures a stinger ball that he can put on a target by stinging them with it. The ball is invisible to non-Nen users, and since its wings produces a buzzing sound, this can be used as a simple way to detect Nen users, because people are bound to react if they hear a buzzing by their ear.

When put on a target, the ability is terminated once the target moves 20 meters away from Yushohi. (Fugetsu did not exit her Nen space the first she used it, therefore the stinger ball's distance limitation was unaffected, unlike when she exited her Nen space in Tier 3)

Using it on someone who's not a Nen user is simpler, but it takes much longer to take effect. The stinger ball needs to go unnoticed while Yushohi remains close by for the long incubation period. Once that ends, the target will die from an injection of a transmuted substance that's completely untraceable during postmortem.

If the stinger ball is found and removed from the target, the transmuted chemical will never work on that same target again, as they'll be permanently immune to the effect.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The ability is terminated once the target moves 20 meters away Yushohi.
  • The conjured stinger ball is invisible to non-Nen users, and its wings produces a buzzing sound that only Nen users can hear.
  • If the stinger ball is found and removed from the target, it will never work on that same target again, as they'll be permanently immune to the effect.
  • Using it on someone who's not a Nen user is simpler, but it takes much longer to take effect.
  • Once the stinger ball's incubation period ends, the target will die from an injection of a transmuted substance that's completely untraceable during postmortem.
Yushohi's ability is most suited for assassination. If the stinger ball is found and removed from the target, it will never work on that same target again, as they'll be permanently immune to the effect. Using it on someone who's not a nen user is simpler, but it takes much longer to take effect. The stinger ball needs to go unnoticed while Yushohi remains close by for the long incubation period. And he loves taking his time, though not as much as the moment his target dies.

[Transmuter] - [Counteractive Type] Pain packer
Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration, Transmutation
(Rising Sun)
[Basic Type] Manipulate, Conjure, Emit, Transmute

Feitan conjures a suit of armor that protects him from the effects of the ensuing technique. His aura output also receives a boost. He transmutes his aura into scorching heat, its efficiency and potency depending on the pain and injuries inflicted to him in battle. Rising Sun has a huge attack radius.

Vows and Limitations:
  • Rising Sun is activated by Feitan's rage.
  • It's efficiency and potency depending on the pain and injuries inflicted to him in battle.
  • The more damage he has suffered, the hotter the fire, and the longer it will burn.
  • The armor that Feitan conjures protects him from the ensuing effects of the ability, but he cannot wield anything in his hands because they are enclosed inside the armor.
Feitan's aura output receives a boost as the ability activates. Rising Sun has a huge attack radius, and the more damage Feitan has suffered, the hotter the fire, and the longer it will burn. The ability would have been lethal to multiple members of the Phantom Troupe if they had stayed by the location where it was unleashed. Shizuku admitted that in the past, she and some other Phantom Troupe members almost died while trying to watch it. The armor that Feitan conjures protects him from the ensuing effects of the ability, but he cannot wield anything in his hands because they are enclosed inside the armor.

‎ ‎‎[Curse]

(Sub-Hatsu)

‎ ‎‎[Loan]
‎ ‎‎[Soliciting]
‎ ‎‎[Curse]
[Predictable Construct Type] Manipulate, Transmute
[Adaptable Construct Type] 5 Nen Types
‎ ‎‎[Divination]

Any time the conjured weapon strikes an enemy, it's up to the target's brain and how they react to overwhelming fear, to, in a sense, "see" their fears. But, the user isn't making them see those things, their mind plays tricks on them, so they shouldn't rely on their instincts. The sharpness of the conjured weapon is strengthened through Enhancement.

Determined through Manipulation immediately after each strike, anyone who can "resist" the weapon's effect causes the fear to rebound to the user, with the target themselves no longer being affected by the weapon's transmuted effect. The target will remain immune from the transmuted effect until the user cancels the ability, by deactivating the conjured weapon. The user must then redo the restrictions from the beginning.

Since no Emission is being used in the Main Hatsu, the transmuted chemicals of the weapon dissipates very quickly after each strike, although the "residual" side effects depends on the target to suppress their own instincts.

The user should also suppress their own instincts when they attack using the Main Hatsu, because they could potentially receive fear rebound. Thus, this is extremely risky to use.

Vows and Limitations:
The (Sub-Hatsu) can only be used if the user receives fear rebound from a target being unaffected by the transmuted chemicals of the Main Hatsu.
  • The conjured weapon loses the transmuted chemical property, and becomes unable to cause any harm, whatsoever, to the target.
  • Therefore, you can't damage the target with your weapon anymore, only infuse it with aura and lend that aura to the target.
  • The amount of aura lent to the target does not affect your normal A.O.P output. Therefore, the user could potentially lend close to their full P.O.P to the target.
  • The lent aura will serve to strengthen the target by increasing their A.O.P, based on a percentage of the amount of lent aura, but that it all, it cannot be used by the target. Therefore, all lent aura will remain untouched until you are ready to conjure, or cancel the ability.
  • Canceling the ability will replenish the target's P.O.P using the amount of aura currently lent to them, returning their A.O.P back to its normal output.
  • When you lend aura for the first time, a transmuted Nen construct connected to your shoulders appears. Only you and the target can see the construct.
  • Before the Nen beast gets conjured, the user can cancel the Sub-Hatsu at will, but they must redo the restrictions from the beginning.
  • The target must figure out by themselves that for them to return the aura you lent them, they must touch the transmuted Nen construct with their attack, without the attack touching you, or else you'll take damage and no aura will be returned.
  • When you're satisfied with the amount of aura currently lent to the target, conjure the Nen beast.
  • The Nen abilities and form of the conjured Nen beast is influenced by the mind and fears of the target.
  • When you attack, your conjured weapon still won't be able to harm the target, but instead, the aura infused into the weapon will be consumed to further strengthen the Nen beast, replenishing its aura reserve. The beast is able to damage the target.
  • You cannot control the beast, but once the target has been defeated, it will begin to follow your orders, though it still can't be controlled at will, nor can you replenish its aura reserve (unless it was bestowed with that ability)
  • The beast can use your Main Hatsu by default, along with the new Nen abilities it was created with. So the target shouldn't try to fight it by relying on instincts.
This is a very powerful ability that is extremely risky to use. When the Sub-Hatsu is fully activated, the target must be able to fight the embodiment of their worst fear, born possessing Nen abilities, all the while they have to maintain a clear head and suppress their instincts, else they risk temporarily paralyzing themselves with fear. The conjured Nen Beast can damage the target, but your conjured weapon still won't be able to, but instead, any damage caused by the weapon will be used to further strengthen the beast. Fear Imagination is extremely risky to use, but also extremely effective, especially when fighting Nen users who rely so much on instincts.

Youpi relies on enhancing his natural shapeshifting ability, a heritage of his Magical Beast genes. His primary ability allows him to freely control any part of his anatomy, he can transform extremely quickly. he uses it to sprout additional arms and eyes on his on his body. He was also able to liquefy his cells, and shapeshift into a much smaller, winged form that allowed him to survive despite donating most of his body mass.

Under extreme mental stress, his body is engorged and swells up as his rage increases until he unleashes it with an incredibly destructive transmuted explosion, capable of leaving a crater of a few dozen meters in diameter, before returning to his normal form. The blast results in great pleasure for Youpi, followed by empty despair. He is left especially vulnerable as his body swells up, but through controlling his emotions, he can cancel the process and return to his usual bodily shape in an instant, allowing him to strike back after luring in the enemy. He is also able to channel the rage as a destructive transmuted energy beam, although this was only displayed by Meruem.

He channels his rage into his own body and transforms into a centaur-like creature. As his wrath grows, instead of his whole body swelling up, only the amoebic sac on his left shoulder does, removing his previous weakness. He becomes faster in this state and retains the ability to shapeshift.

Vows and Limitations:
  • Youpi enhances and freely controls his natural shapeshifting ability, a heritage of his Magical Beast genes.
  • Under extreme mental stress, his whole, or partial body, is directly controlled, to engorge and swell up as his rage increases until he unleashes it with an incredibly destructive transmuted explosion or energy beam.
  • He is left especially vulnerable as his body swells up, but through controlling his emotions, he can cancel the process and return to his usual bodily shape in an instant.
  • The blast results in great pleasure for him, followed by empty despair.
  • Youpi also channels his rage into his own body and transforms into a centaur-like creature. A large amoebic sac, that's directly controlled, is in place of his left arm. The sac contains his rage.
  • As his wrath grows, instead of his whole body swelling up, only the amoebic sac on his left arm does, removing his previous weakness.
Menthuthuyoupi's primary ability allows him to freely control any part of his anatomy, including his natural shapeshifting ability, which is a heritage of his Magical Beast genes. In battle, he most commonly uses it to produce extra eyes on his body, and sprout four additional arms and make all six tentacle-like, significantly increasing the range and number of his attacks every second. He also channels his rage into his own body and transforms into a centaur-like creature. As his wrath grows, instead of his whole body swelling up, only the amoebic sac on his left shoulder does, removing his previous weakness. He becomes faster in this state and retains the ability to shapeshift. He is also able to channel the rage as a destructive transmuted explosion or energy beam.

(Zero Hand)
[Predictable Construct Type] Manip, Emit, Conjure, Transmute

Netero's ability allows him to conjure a multi-armed Nen construct behind himself which takes the form of a gigantic statue of Guanyin. To execute an attack, Netero clasps his hands together in a fluid motion, as if in prayer, after which one of the arms on the statue strike down upon his target in conjunction with Netero's hand motion. Due to Netero’s immense speed, the whole process can be carried out in far less than 0.1 seconds, up to thousands of times per minute.

A single palm push from the bodhisattva was enough to push the already airborne Neferpitou a considerable distance away without the Chimera Ant fully understanding what had happened. The sheer number of arms makes it so that the possible combinations are so numerous that Meruem regarded them as being practically infinite, and it's only by detecting Netero's unconscious bias for one move over another that Meruem managed to best the ability.

Zero Hand is Netero's last resort, meant to be used only when he cannot utilize any other of Guanyin's abilities. The bodhisattva appears behind his enemy and tenderly clasps them within its palms. Then, it focuses every last ounce of Netero's aura in its mouth before mercilessly firing it as an enormous transmuted flare of unparalleled destructive power. After executing it, he ages rapidly as a result of his aura being completely drained.

Vows and Limitations:
  • To execute an attack, Netero clasps his hands together in a fluid motion, as if in prayer, after which one of the arms on the statue strike down upon his target in conjunction with Netero's hand motion. The procedure is repeated before every attack.
  • Zero Hand requires Netero to first pray with all his heart, this prayer does not require him to use his hands.
  • The bodhisattva then appears behind his enemy and tenderly clasps them within its palms. Then, it focuses every last ounce of Netero's aura in its mouth before mercilessly firing it as an enormous transmuted flare of unparalleled destructive power. He ages rapidly as a result of his aura being completely drained.

[Enhancer] - [Basic Type] Rabid Dog Tranquilizer
Manipulation, Transmutation, Enhancement
(Rabid Dog Tranquilizer)
[Basic Type] Enhance, Manipulate, Transmute

Rabid Dog is a capable fighter, one of the best serving under the Ten Dons, since he was chosen as one of their personal bodyguards. However, he was no match for Uvogin. He fights by enhancing his speed and teeth to tear off chunks of flesh from his opponents.

He also modifies the properties of his saliva into a tranquilizer using Transmutation, his filed teeth then injects the saliva into the target. The saliva is capable of incapacitating voluntary muscles from the neck down, leaving his opponents aware of the pain. It's very powerful, and even hours after injection, the efficacy won't wane. His abilities also work well in conjunction with those of other Shadow Beasts.

He is very fast, effortlessly striking Uvogin and then backing away before the Phantom Troupe member could retaliate. He can also intercept a bullet shot at medium range. Rabid Dog can bite off Uvogin's skin, which is so hard that even anti-tank missiles can barely scratch it. He is also very quick to do so.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The tranquilizer is capable of incapacitating voluntary muscles from the neck down, leaving his opponents aware of the pain.
  • He is immune from the effect of his tranquilizer.

Phinks' great strength, speed, and hand-to-hand combat skills make him a very powerful fighter and member of the Troupe. He was able to kill several armed Mafia members in mere seconds, and easily thwarted Killua's escape attempt. His fighting style appears to be centered on snapping or twisting an opponent's neck quickly and silently. He is so proficient at it that he employs it as his primary means of offense.

Vows and Limitations:
  • When he winds his arm in a clockwise direction, his aura increases in his fist with every rotation.
Being an Enhancer and ranked second in arm-wrestling among the Troupe, Phinks is an incredibly strong Nen user. When he winds his arm in a clockwise direction, his aura increases in his fist with every rotation. The power generated by 15 rotations of his right arm was more than enough for him to destroy a Chimera Ant's resilient body with a single punch. However, he estimated that half as many would have been enough, stating that he has trouble calibrating his punches.

As a member of the Troupe, Franklin is feared as a very powerful Nen user. He appears to have a large amount of aura, shooting hundreds of devastating bullets without growing tired. His Enhancement skills also appear to be quite high, as he came out of the explosion of a car completely unscathed.

He seems to prefer to fight with his Nen bullets in combat since their number, speed, and power are usually enough to overpower his opponents.

Vows and Limitations:
  • Although it wasn't required, he chose to cut his fingertips off because he felt it would be more effective.
After separating his fingertips at the height of the distal phalanges, Franklin expels aura from his fingers in the form of bullets. Coupled with the ability's high rate of fire, their tremendous speed and power make it ideal to slaughter dozens of opponents in a matter of seconds. Tocino, a fellow Emitter, was astounded that Franklin's projectiles could tear through his Nen puppets and retain enough kinetic force to inflict fatal wounds.

Musse's ability, Secret Window, uses 3 different birds as spies.

The Horned-Owl, a transmuted bird with a conjured visor, It allows the user to hear everything within a certain radius of themselves. It's attached to the user's left shoulder.

The Barn-Owl, a conjured bird detached from the user, it functions like a flying mobile camera that the user can telepathically command from a long distance. It telepathically transmits everything it sees and hears.

The Owl, a conjured curse activated by touching the target, it can only be seen by the user. It telepathically transmits everything the target says and does.

Vows and Limitations:
  • Secret Window needs direct control over the user's left eye before it can be fully activated.
  • All information gathered by the ability is relayed through the user's transformed left eye.
  • Therefore, if the user's left eye is damaged or under direct control of another ability, Secret Window can't be fully used/activated.

[Emitter] - [Nen Construct Type] 14 Devils

(14 Devils)
[Predictable Construct Type] Manipulate, Emit, Conjure

Razor can conjure eight anthropomorphic Nen beasts, numbered from 0 to 7, which he calls "devils". In his dodgeball game, the devils were capable of redirecting his passes with such speed that Tsezguerra could not follow them, although the destructive power of the ball decreased with each pass. If two devils fuse together, the numbers on their bodies add up, creating a bulkier monster. Although the number of Nen beasts is reduced through this procedure, the resulting devil is physically stronger than any of the two from which it originated.

A side effect of Razor's ability is that he is unable to draw out his full power while his aura is split amongst the Nen beasts; however, he can simply dispel the Nen beasts to recover it and utilize his full output. The sheer power of his throws with a limited aura output implies that he is also a powerful Enhancement user.

Vows and Limitations:
  • When the devils fuse together, #14 is the highest number they can attain.
Razor is incredibly strong, he also has a considerable aura output, which allows him to maintain eight conjured Nen beasts while the combination of his physical strength and aura can impart a ball with enough force to kill skilled Nen users. Razor is also a very proficient Shu user. One of his throws, which had been weakened by several passes, was nonetheless able to critically wound Tsezguerra, and Killua, upon catching it after it bounced off the floor, commented that it felt as heavy as a bowling ball. The sheer power of his throws with a limited aura output implies that he is also a powerful Enhancement user.

Knuckle attaches a conjured indestructible mascot called Potclean onto the opponent after he's dealt them a blow. Based on the damage received, Potclean lends aura from Knuckle to whomever it is attached to, displayed by a rising counter on Potclean's forehead.

Each of Knuckle's blows only lends aura, increasing the counter based on the damage received, but without causing any actual damage. Any attacks done to Knuckle by his opponent lowers the counter based on the damage received, but without causing any actual damage. In both cases, the person suffering the blow can still be knocked back by it, despite suffering no damage.

The interest rate on Potclean is 10% of the borrowed aura, including interest, accrued every 10 seconds while the victim is within 50 meters of Knuckle. As the amount of borrowed aura, including interest, accumulates, Potclean also grows in size. When the aura borrowed from Knuckle exceeds his opponent's total remaining aura, specifically their P.O.P, the opponent goes bankrupt, forcing them into a continuous state of Zetsu for 30 days.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The lowest amount of aura that can be lent from each of Knuckle's blows is 1 unit of aura.
  • Only one instance of Potclean can be active at all times, this does not apply to Toritaten. Potclean and Toritaten count as separate constructs
  • As long as Potclean is attached, any attacks done to Knuckle by his opponent lowers the counter.
  • Until the counter goes all the way down to 0, Knuckle cannot be physically damaged by his opponent. The reverse is also true: each of Knuckle's blows only lends more aura to his opponent, causing no damage.
  • The more damage you receive, the more aura is lent or the more Potclean's counter lowers. In both cases, the person suffering the blow can still be knocked back by it, despite suffering no damage.
  • Interest is accrued every 10 seconds while the victim is within 50 meters of Knuckle.
  • When the aura borrowed from Knuckle, including the interest, exceeds his opponent's total remaining aura, specifically their P.O.P, the opponent goes bankrupt.
  • Bankruptcy causes Potclean to transform into Toritaten, a demon-like mascot that follows the debtor for 30 days and forces them into a continuous state of Zetsu.
  • Toritaten directly controls the target's aura. If their aura is already under another's direct control, then Toritaten will remain on standby and its effect will only active the moment that control ends.
It is in Knuckle's interest that his opponent spends as much aura as possible, as quickly as possible, so long as said aura is not spent on Knuckle himself. The result is that the opponent's aura balance falls that much quicker until it is below the amount they owe him, displayed by Potclean, at which point bankruptcy sets in. Due to his ability, he has adapted a hit and away tactic against other Nen users, which consists of capturing or dealing the final blow after the target's Nen is sealed.

This technique, aside from hindering the enemy greatly, also has a strong impact on their mind. Once the target is weakened, Saiyu finishes them off with his conjured staff.

Vows and Limitations:

  • Kikizaru is the hear-not monkey
  • Iwazaru is the speak-not monkey
  • If their attacks connect, the opponent is deprived of the corresponding senses.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The opponent feels no pain and is not actually wounded.
  • Hotel Rafflesia directly controls the target's affected body part, but, if it's already under another's direct control, then the effect will not activate.
  • To disengage the ability, Shoot opens the door of the cage, allowing the trapped target to walk out, after which they return to their normal size.

The user carries two pouches of seeds with them attached to their belt. One pouch holds the seeds of the 'Strangler Fig' and the other holds the seeds of 'Gajamaru'

Strangler Fig, these seeds can be used as armor by the user, or propelled at a high velocity by flicking them at his or her target(s). Once the seed lands on its victim, the roots will imbed and the vines will rapidly grow around the person, piercing the victims flesh and spreading throughout their body, leading to an untimely and uncomfortable death. The effectiveness of the Strangler Fig depends on the target's physicality and aura defense.

Gajamaru seeds can be planted in the ground. It provides no combative properties, but wherever it's planted, it has a 10 metre En radius. The tree can also uproot itself and walk if the user wishes, albeit rather slowly.

Vows and Limitations:
  • The user can plant Strangler Fig seeds into their own flesh thereby using the strangler fig as a kind of armour made out of vines. the vines are enhanced using Shu.
  • This causes pain to the user however, as the roots will also imbed into their own flesh. but it will not be fatal or greatly debilitating.
  • A maximum of 10 Gajamaru seeds can be planted at one time. Each tree will live for 10 days, and the user must sacrifice 10% of their own A.O.P for each tree that gets planted. In other words, once 10 Gajamaru seeds have been planted, the user is effectively put into a state of zetsu, besides the use of this En technique.
  • Planted Gajamaru seeds have no inherent combative or offensive properties.
The user can propel these seeds at a high velocity by flicking them at his or her target. The Strangler Fig can be used to trap opponents, greatly restricting their movements and slowly constricting their body. Leol is a Specialist. His Nen ability was improved upon by Shaiapouf after he spent three days in a cocoon, which caused him to claim he was slow.

His Nen ability allows him to temporarily borrow the Nen abilities of other people. He must fulfill two conditions for each ability he wants to borrow. He is able to adapt very quickly to his borrowed abilities, identifying their main strengths efficiently and selecting the one most suited to the situation.

The rental pod can double as a portable music player, which he occasionally uses to keep track of how long he can keep a borrowed ability active for, by playing one hour-long albums. Through it, he can also verify the status of any of the targets he borrowed an ability from.

Vows and Limitations:
1) Know the name of the ability or have seen it being used.
2) Do the owner of the ability a favor, and confirm acceptance of the debt with a question, along the lines of "You owe me, alright?"
  • Once he fulfills the conditions, the name of the owner, the name of the ability, and the number of times it can be used (once per favor done for the owner) are all automatically recorded in the Rental Pod.
  • If the owner of an ability dies, their information is automatically erased from the machine and their ability can no longer be used.
  • To access a borrowed Nen ability, Leol uses the dispenser to print out and tear up a receipt, which grants him use of the ability for one hour. During this time, the ability cannot be used by its original owner.
  • Rental Pod directly controls the target's aura to conditionally seal their Nen, but, if that specific condition is already under another's direct control, then the effect will not activate.

Rental Pod is an extremely versatile and undetectable ability until it is fully activated. Leol can borrow someone's ability just from having a conversation, he had Cheetu's ability borrowed, for helping Cheetu gain the ability in the first place. It is unknown exactly how many abilities like this one he had pocketed and unused before his death.

The weapon Kurapika conjures is a unique one: five chains that extend from each finger on his right hand. In order to increase their effectiveness, he placed strict limitations on their usage, he is also granted an increase in skill by using Emperor Time, and on top of that, he is also granted an aura boost by his Scarlet Eyes.

Vows and Limitations:
  • (Chain Jail) can only be used on the Spiders, it forces its prisoners into a state of Zetsu. Violating this condition will result in Kurapika's death.
  • Chain Jail directly controls the target's aura. If their aura is already under another's direct control, then the effect will not activate.
  • Chain Jail's authentication process depends on a combination of the target's subconscious knowledge and Kurapika's (sub)conscious knowledge.
  • it's only possible to escape from the chain through brute force, although not even Uvogin, the strongest Spider, could break free from it.
  • (Steal Chain) pierces the target's physical and aura defense to drain their aura. While their aura(A.O.P) is being drained, the target is forced into a state similar to Zetsu.
  • Unless Emperor Time is active, Kurapika can't use the drained aura in any manner. He can only release that aura from the syringe, which he is required to do before Steal Chain can drain aura again.
  • By activating Emperor Time, Kurapika can conjure a dolphin-like construct that's visble and audible only to himself. This construct can "equip" and analyze the stolen aura.
  • The dolphin directly controls the target's aura to conditionally seal their Nen, but, if that specific condition is already under another's direct control, then the effect will not activate.
  • Kurapika can use the stolen ability for himself or loan it to another person. The original user is unable to use the ability until it is returned to them.
  • As a downside, as long as all stolen abilities are not returned, Emperor Time will forcefully remain active, and should Kurapika faint while someone else is using an ability loaned to them by him, that person will pass out as well.
  • Regardless of who controls it, a stolen ability can be used only once, after which it is returned to the original user.
  • When loaned to another person, a listening device is conjured in that person's ear that enables them to see the dolphin and communicate with it via telepathy.
  • The dolphin can counsel the new recipient on how to use the ability, and will utilize it itself when given the order by the recipient of the loaned ability.
  • When Kurapika or someone he has loaned an ability to activates it, it is fueled with the aura that Steal Chain took from its owner, ensuring that it is used with its original user's power.
  • The released effectiveness and ability mastery depends on the original user's capabilities, but, regardless of how much aura is stolen, the effectiveness and mastery of the ability cannot exceed that of what the original user is currently capable of.
  • The reverse is also true: If the amount of stolen aura isn't enough to activate any of the target's abilities, then those abilities can't be used.
  • If none of the original user's abilities can be fueled by the current amount of loaded aura, then that stolen aura can be released, and then the dolphin can be deactivated.
  • (Holy Chain) cures wounds and increases the body's fatigue & aura recovery rate by using Enhancement abilities. When Emperor Time is active, the chain can heal serious injuries, such as a fractured arm, within seconds.
  • Holy Chain can only be used on Kurapika himself.
  • (Dowsing Chain) is mostly used for investigative activities, like determining the location of missing individuals, and identifying if someone is lying.
  • In ordinary conditions, Kurapika needs to be directly in front of the target for the lie detection to function.
  • however, when Emperor Time is active, it becomes possible for him to use that ability also through video recordings, provided he has met the subject before.
  • (Judgment Chain) is used to give the victim an order, which, if violated, results in the Stake of Retribution piercing the victim's heart, killing them.
  • The Stake of Retribution is the blade on the end of this chain, it enters the victim's body and wraps around their heart, provided that the chain is strong enough to pierce the target's physical and aura defense.
  • Before Judgment Chain can be used to its full effect, Emperor Time is required to be active.

Awesome work!! It looks great!!

Ohh, I see, You're right.

@Uriel
Agreed that terms help to organize & bring better understanding.

But don’t you think these subcategories only apply to certain Nen classes....Such as Control belonging to manipulation class & Nen Construct belonging to Emisson.
Mmmm kinda.

It's true that manipulators tend to have coercive types of techniques, but you can achieve that through other Hatsus. Judgment Chain is a good example of that. Additionally, you have Manipulators who don't have coercive techniques like Morel.

Constructs can be made with either Emission or Conjuration, but we have users like Biscuit who uses a construct is a Transmuter (Using that Hatsu, but we are talking about techniques here, not users themselves)

The best way to understand this is to look at users as biased to certain Hatsu techniques, but the subcategories are not always tied into those and you can achieve that in different ways.

With a re-read I could help. But I guess I would like to see these sub-categories assigned to their Nen classes. To fully see how Nen applications from different classe are used to create a Hatsu.
I re-read a lot lately because I feel *in my veins* that the next 10 chapters of HxH are coming soon.

Yes true. But what I’m referring to, like you mentioning terminology....Terminology we can agree on not to get consumed or semantical.

Gon is an Enhancer; but he can still use Manipulation Nen, however limited.

Coercion is a facet Manpulation Nen no matter what...As for forming a Hatsu that uses Manipulation....Coercion & Persuasion are some of the various subcategories or facilities of Manipulation Nen......

Ok. Now you are touching on what I’m talking about.

Im solely referring to Nen & not users.
but let’s use Biscuit as an Example of what I’m trying to say, & would love to help with it.

Biscuit is a Transmuter type. All this really means is 100%Transmuter, 40% manipulation , 60% everything else 0% specialization limit of Mastery/usage.

She’s uses a Hatsu of Conjuration which gives her/Transmuters 60%mastery/usage. It’s not a bad hatsu, being it’s not combat related. It’s her desired Will to be pampered n highly groomed.

What I’m referring to is that the subcategories belong to specific schools of Nen. Some subcategories may even fit into multiple Nen schools. But the subcategories are a deeper explanations & variations to create & use a hatsu, as you mix Nen types/schools for desired effect...

In starting my re read now. So I can help fit in the subcategories under their belonging school(s).

This is an ability created by a redditor on HatsuVault.
Hatsu: Encounter - Transmuter
Emission, Manipulation, Transmutation
  • User transmutes the aura on their right and Left hand to have magnetic like attractive properties. User then detaches this aura in the shape of a N or S depending on what hand is used.
  • Whatever’s touched by the right will become the target (N) and whatever’s touched by the left will become attracted to it (S).
  • When a N is stuck to a target, the user can choose where exactly the S target will collide with it.
  • Acceleration violently builds up the longer the time it takes N and S to collide. For example, even if there’s an obstacle between N and S then the acceleration and momentum from S will keep building up until the obstacle break or the S breaks.
Vows and Limitations:
  • S target cannot be more than the weight and mass of N target
  • Only 1 N and 3 S’s can be used at a given time. Hatsu deactivates after all targets have met
  • User has to touch S target for 3 secs for every 50m away from N target
  • If target marked N is beyond 1km of S then hatsu is deactivated
Compound Type (Encounter)
[
Transmutation]---> Shape=>aura | Modify=>aura
[Manipulation]---> Control=>aura | Momentum=>acceleration
[Emission]---> Mark=>target
  • [North]---> Control=>Modify=>Shape=>Mark
  • [South]---> Control=>Modify=>Shape=>Mark=>Momentum
Could an emitter recreate Encounter? Yes, absolutely.
Could a manipulator recreate Encounter? Yes, absolutely.

But for an efficient ability, they need to use different combinations:
Hatsu: Sticky Fingers - Manipulator
Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration
  • User has numbered 1-10 feather tattoos conjured on each of their fingertips, and a wing tattoo conjured on the middle of their palms.
  • When the user touches a feather tattoo to an object or person, a seal of the tattoo on their finger is emitted onto the surface.
  • When the user shouts “Retract, (number 1-10)!” The corresponding emitted feathers (and the object they are attached to) will begin to fly back to the finger that placed them there, making a direct beeline and not stopping until they reach the feather on the users finger, crashing through any obstacles if need be.
  • The further the user is from the emitted feather, the faster and stronger the pull is, while the closer he is, the less strong the pull is, similar to a rubber band, or even Hisokas retracting Bungee Gum.
  • The user can also ‘cancel’ the pull halfway through, stopping the seals further effects but usually flinging them since they’ll still have to deal with the fact that they were being dragged at high speed.
Vows and Limitations:
  • Emitting a seal from one finger means that finger will not be able to make more seals (unless using Sticky You), meaning Robin can only emit up to 10 seals at a time, the amount of tattoos she has.
  • The strength and speed at which the seal is manipulated towards the user, directly scales according to the distance between the seal and the user, meaning if the user is close by, the pull is less strong, and if the user is far away from the seal, it’ll be incredibly powerful once it begins retracting.
  • The user must finish shouting “Retract, (number)!” Before the pull begins.
Because of the Vows and Limitations that would be required,
a conjurer shouldn't try to recreate those two, it wont be efficient.

Kurapika could never hope to borrow Meruem's ability.
1) Break his aura defense.
2) Break his physical defense by sticking the syringe into him.
Pretty impossible I would say, even if Meruem was in Zetsu.

Leol can borrow Meruem's ability just from having a conversation.
He could also become a Nen teacher and manipulate his students.
(Aura Synthesis) (Benjamin Baton) (Rental Pod) (Steal Chain)

Absorb Type
[
Conjuration]
[
Manipulation]
[
Emission]
Create=>catalyst
Copy=>ability | Levy=>aura | Seal=>nen | Loan=>aura/ability
Mark=>target
  • [Meruem]---> Levy==>Copy
  • [Benjamin]---> Mark==>Copy
  • [Leol]---> Mark==>Copy==>Create==>Seal
  • [Kura]---> Create=>Levy==>Copy==>Seal==>Loan
Some of them can manipulate people, right? What if the act of teaching is the condition to activate the ability to manipulate people...? (ch.376)

Leol's Rental Pod enables him to temporarily borrow the target's abilities by putting them in his debt. He must see the ability or know its name, and he must do a favor for the target.
Both abilities require manipulation, but the implementation differs:
It's true that manipulators tend to have coercive types of techniques, but you can achieve that through another Hatsu. Judgment Chain is a good example of that.

Additionally, you have Manipulators who don't have coercive techniques like Morel.
Could a master emitter recreate Steal Chain? Yes, possibly.
Could a master manipulator recreate Steal Chain? Yes, possibly.

Could masters of the 5 different Nen types replicate Rental Pod?
The Vows and Limitations required to make the ability work would make it unpractical/inefficient, even for a master Manipulator.

The bottom line is, Enhancers don't need one. They're the most balanced in offense and defense. Practice Ten and Ren, and you'll produce enough force to be quite destructive. And Gon, do not follow your friend Kurapika's example. I'm sure I don't need to tell you why.

Combine Enhancement and the 4 advanced type however you want.
No matter what you create, it'll fall under one of the 11 categories:
    2. Levy Drain the target's aura for various use. ie: Kurapika, Meruem
    2. Space Creation: Either occupy or travel through a nen-made space. ie: Cheetu. Knov
Hatsu principles are very simply the categorization of Nen abilities.
Showing us the efficiency with which Nen users use their Nen Type:
The best way to understand this is to look at users as biased to certain Hatsu techniques, but the subcategories are not always tied into those and you can achieve that in different ways.

Aspects of the Nen system still left unclarified:

1) Divine Script

2) Post-Mortem Nen

3) Ken|En|Emit|Shu mass/volume ratio

4) Emission distance separated calculation

5) Conjuration amount spent calculation (mass)

6) User's natural aura replenishment rate (fatigue)

7) {Vows and Limitations} converted into aura units

8) Physical power (and speed/block %) converted into aura units

This.

Is it hatsu principles? Or fine detailed Nen type principles..

Hatsu is The Cup test, & your technique; What you mentally create using the principles, subcategories of the Nen types to make an ability, suited to your class, personality & style
