If you're just gonna compare Vagabond to RK just because they have the same kind of setting / theme then by your logic isn't SnS a rip-off off Toriko too?
IMO the Story of SnS gets boring after some time cause it's always the same + it makes me hungry all the time what's kinda annoying. But it has great art and for me it was something new, so it gets my vote.
+ Would be a shame if the Salt Lord is out of the war in round 1, this shouldn't happen.
I'd disagree with it being the same all the time. Yes it is centered around cooking but isn't that the whole point of the manga? I think each arc is different enough with what's happening to still be entertaining to most unless you're being super picky and want drastic changes. Shokugeki stays in it's lane and does it's own thing, and I think it's a formula that shouldn't change too much at all because that formula is what makes it such a great, entertaining read imo.
I'm giving my Vote to SnS here, since i haven't read Vagabond yet and for me its actually one of the better written Shonen out there and not some kind of ****** Manga just for the Perverts out there, basing this Statement on some Critics i read about it before.
One of the Major Differences for me and the hardest to understand for most People is that the Characters in SnS while it may be a Shonen do not blast each other away by Spamming some kind of Energy Blasts or anything.Which may make it look like some Minor Slice of Life Manga Series.
No. They pretty much clash with their Dishes,I'd say its rather similar to Yugioh the Card Game Series since in the World of SnS everything rides on the Shokugeki's the Characters have with their Opponents, just like the Duels in Yugioh. It's less serious then Yugioh to some extent and really relies more on the Comedial Aspect the Series has going for it,which for example could be the Foodgasm's.
It's a selling point in the anime/manga. ‘Foodgasm’ is a combination of the two words, food and orgasm, and used to describe the characters’ reactions upon eating delicious food, as the taster’s face gets hot and their clothes get stripped from their body. I can understand that for some People it really just looks like Excessive Fanservice and has no mean to it,which is wrong but understandable for me.
Its just for the Comedic Relief and nothing else honestly, not that you can go and get your Rocks off from looking at it ,the Foodgasm could also very well be viewed as the Finishing Blow in a Martial Arts based Manga like Dragonball or as i mentioned before the Final Attack in a Duel from Yugioh which leaves the Opponent devastated. And so do the Foodgasm's,they do not just strip the Opponent for nothing its to prove that the MCs Dish for example was overwhelmingly better and more delicious obviously.
Its basically a way to prove your "Power" as well, which in this Manga is just mainly your Skill in Cooking.
And that's what SnS is first and foremost about, the Cooking:
Not only does Shokugeki no Soma introduce the audience to various cuisines, but it also introduces other elements that are important to being a chef such as creativity. Each of the students come from a different cooking background, and it is their knowledge that makes Shokugeki no Soma not only an entertaining manga but an informative one as well.
And then we have the Characters, their Dialogue and Interactions are rather on Point for a Shonen these Days in my humble Opinion and most of them undergo solid Development and have a nice Background.
For example, the Aldini brothers, Takumi and Isami, specialize in Italian cuisine as they grew up in Italy working for their family restaurant, Trattoria Aldini. As a result, many of their dishes are inspired by Italian cuisine, as they adjust it to satisfy the Japanese palette. In the first day of training camp, their examiner, Inui Hinako, requested the students to create a Japanese dish using the ingredients found within their location. While most students opted for fish, Takumi and Isami went with their Italian roots and chose duck to create aigamo grilled with spices. Remaking the salsa verde to have uruka, a Japanese ingredient, they were the first pair to pass the exam because of their ingenuity.
SnS Introduces many Creative and Interesting Ways of Cooking in case you are interested in that, for me its making it more and more likeable since i am some kind of a Hobby Cook at home actually.
And it also has one of the Best Tournament Arcs there is in Shonen imo. with the Autumn Elections Arc.
Hope i could give some People that are interested in taking this Series up or want some Motivation to read it some kind of Insight on it.
Thank You.
NOTE:This is just my Personal Opinion.
I get what you're saying but it also confirms my point that it's got a lot of violence, gore etc. and it honestly sounds depressing. Vagabond isn't something you could read and feel better, having a laugh over what happened, it's too serious. SnS is light-hearted and can resonate with people more because lets face it, we're not reformed samurai that our tortured by our killing sprees. On top of that, another positive thing Shokugeki brings is the more practical side, it's recipes for the food inside. It goes beyond entertainment and becomes a teaching tool of sort, teaching people how to make certain dishes and to practice what they've read. It's another side to what makes SnS such a fulfilling and enjoyable read because it's not only able to make things better and brighter, but it can also give you practical skills you can use. That's something magical that I doubt many other manga could replicate.
I mean, if you find violence and gore depressing I really dont know what to say lol. Vagabond definitely isnt a light hearted series though, I agree, but there are tons of other series out there who can do light hearted just as well if not better SnS, which has a very niche focus of attention to begin with. Whereas you won't find many series like Vagabond.....period. Not many of us go on cooking competitions where everyone starts having foodgasms either, Vagabond is far more grounded then SnS is.
Honestly, I nominated another series, but Vagabond pretty much deserves to win this whole thing. Might just be the best manga of all time. Only thing it has against it is its hiatuses and the fact that it might never be finished. But in this round that doesn't even come into play.

At least Vagabond garnered a circle jerk and it isnt even the manga about porn here.
Vagabond is based on a true story, if anything Kenshin copied Vagabonds source material.
Well because it is based on a true story, so it really cannot be a rip-off of something that is not to my knowledge (though I could be wrong on that with Kenshin). Plus you're comparing a historical Seinen with a more classic shonen, there is a fairly large difference in how both series work from what I know. The same as I think Shokugeki is different from Toriko too in many ways, but possibly even more different in this case, since you are talking demographics.

Depressing probably wasn't the right word to use, but rather darker and gritty and going from my point it's not always something people can just sit down and read unlike a light-hearted series such as SnS which I think does a pretty good job of it. In terms of what's more relatable, I think that cooking and getting some form of enjoyment out of it is more relatable than the themes etc. in Vagabond, even if Shokugeki can be over the top with the satisfaction which is one of it's strong points. Those over-the-top moments which are used primarily for comedy and as a sort of finishing move help keep Shokugeki light-hearted and unique. I'm sure Vagabond is original in it's own ways and that it has it's own appeals, but I think Shokugeki's light-hearted, comedic approach is better when it comes to reaching a wider audience with how the moments are used. Some may pass it off as just pure fanservice when peering in without much of an idea, but there's more to it which add to Shokugeki's enjoyment value as a series.
1994 eh?
Because Vagabond is based on Eiji Yoshikawa's novel Musashi (1935)...
For me, few mangas come close to the artistic beauty which Takehiko Inoue puts into Vagabond.
That and, as has already been pointed out, there really are very few mangas which tell a story about wandering samurais like Vagabond does.
My only real criticism of the series is how fucking long I am being made to wait for the next chapter...
I'd like to offer a very heartfelt 'FUCK YOU' to whoever is responsible for this heinous delay.
