Feedback MangaHelpers Development Suggestion Thread

Profile posting existed in some form when we had vBulletin, so disabling it when we upgraded to Xenforo only seemed natural. In various subforums there are hangout threads and we have sections in the Member Zone and stuff like the Fun Forum that allows people to "let loose" and be a bit more casual with conversation. In the past, we had concerns over it being difficult to moderate every single member's profile in case things got abusive, etc.

I'm personally not 100% against it ever being an option, but there are other concerns regarding it when it comes to technical side as well.

Oh alright. No that makes a lot of sense. There's always the possibility of people leaving inapproriate or bashing/flaming type posts

What about integrating a general chat to the forum, which would be at the left/right side of the page?
I think it could be good but maybe hard to install?

What exactly do you mean by General chat? Do you mean the type of live chat the Wikia's have? Or a full chat program?

It's technically possible, but just like the Discord suggestion from before, the issue is really that we would have to monitor and moderate the place as soon as we acknowledge it as part of the site and as a result it would add a significant amount of work for the moderation team. It also creates an issue regarding accountability, violation of site rules, cross-platform bans and whatnot, so overall it's not a likely option at this point.

What exactly do you mean by General chat? Do you mean the type of live chat the Wikia's have? Or a full chat program?

I mean a chat where you could talk about everything
But i agree with Kaoz it would be too complicated with the rules ..

Again it'd be an issue of maintainability. Moderating a Forum is hard enough without having to keep these outside assets running

I was doing a little bit of browsing and I found this really sleek looking Dark Theme. What do you guys think of it?

It's not a bad theme, but the $30 pricetag (plus another 20 per update) is a bit excessive. If we were to spend that kind of money on a single add-on, there are more practical ones we would likely opt for instead.

Can we increase the Avatar limit from "150 x 300".

I would rather not. It may not be a big deal on desktop computers but on mobile devices with lesser width, large avatars become disproportionate in certain screen sizes, 150 pixels width is an optimum solution IMHO.

Large avatars often look a little wierd even on desktop. On mobile, the image distortion makes it basically not worth doing, in my opinion.

What if....MHs was to have a "Happy Hour!" so to speak?
A designated time....maybe twice a day...designated length...maybe an hour where the community is live....anybody can pop in video or voice chat.
Would really bring everyone close and could be moderated.

I saw it work on another forum, ofc I imagine how hard it would be to add such a system.

The hardest part was to make the actual badges and items in the shop but, afterwards it did work and was entertaining.

I've seen such a store on OJ but it always seemed like such a bother to me. It encourages spam in order to gain those points as well. Just my two cents but I don't think it's a great idea. And as Pat said something like that would be a pain in the ass to script without plugins and then even so...

@Pat I have two questions. First one is, is it necessary to add button like "Go back to the top", the one that is usually at the bottom corner of page (either left or right side)? Second is, will it be useful if someday we add feature where we can add more than one poll in a thread?

I removed the jump-to-top button which is a feature of Scratch-based themes, I personally don't use it and it may be an annoyance for some but if people request it back, we can carry out a poll.

Multiple polls in a thread may be useful under certain circumstances but AFAIK no add-on for that purpose is available and I assume it'd require a great deal of work to code it from scratch, so it may not be worth the effort. If someone else implements the feature, we can use it too.

@DiMaria Yesta Apparently the button is of use to many people, so I re-enabled it. If you have a browser extension which allows blocking elements, you can use it to remove the button.

Well, for now, that title feature is only for those who have been part of the staff, or someone who have received a special permission (by example, being first at the Art contests leaderboard )
But let's let Pat and the Admins decide of that ..
