Dude it's not really up for discussion. Uta is adopted and has no blood relation to Shanks, that's canon.

Why in the world would it make sense for Garp to mention to Luffy that Ace went to Wano? Ace went to many places.

Pirates don't usually tell others where they went without cause. Shoot, look at how neither luffy or any of his crew told Garp that they went to sky Island.

Oda: Yes. Was the explanation about SWORD a bit complicated? In Chapter 1080, Aokiji said "formal submission of documents" "they can be disavowed any time". This means, they entrusted their resignation but they are not fired (cut loose, disavowed) yet. In the case of a Marine soldier getting caught and becoming a hostage, the Marines will acknowledge their resignation there and there and say "that guy is not a Marine soldier!" and forsake them. The ones who are fine with this so they can fight as they please are the Marine soldiers called "SWORD".

Note: This implies that if you are a member of SWORD, your rank can still rise as long as Marine HQ doesn't acknowledge your resignation papers yet. At this point any pirate should never trust that a marine is ever actually an "ex" marine since they could always be members of sword in secret. The whole thing with Drake is one thing but we also have Aokiji to consider who is also prime Sword member candidate. Will be funny if Oda introduces a Sword within Sword to explain some of this.

It's common sense for a military, let alone a global military to have a secret intelligence unit. Exists in any noteworthy real world military, too, an example would be the German MAD or American DIA with its various subdivisions.

The entire idea of Sword being an underground faction had zero support from the Manga and Kizaru letting go of X Drake on Sabaody already pointed at the opposite.
This was really a primary example of wishful thinking within the community growing into headcanon, the idea of an "underground faction" within the Marines and opposed to its leadership had existed long before Sword was even introduced.
