I think Smiths speech was good. He is getting a lot of shit on it from social media, but I think it's colored by what happened. The speech itself is pretty good. Though long.
I couldn't do a live count because some mistakes happened and I got confused by the awards that were given before the show. I got so left behind with the count, that I felt like missing the show. I'll start counting now, but I do have a strong hunch who won.
I missed Editing since I thought Dune might miss one of its predicted categories. And also missed Actress even though Chastain swept all the precursors, because I thought the Academy wouldn't wanna be boring and give all the Acting awards to the main frontrunners. Also Animated Short but that's just a tie-breaker anyway here.
Overall no surprises, all winners felt like very safe picks I think.
Most of the show was kinda tame, just like last couple of years I stayed up to watch. The Smith/Rock altercation was definitely the most exciting moment, lol. Glad to see Coda sweep its three categories too.
CODA was pretty cliche and all but it was cliche done well. Definitely can see how someone will look at it and go "Best Picture winner? How?", but I watched it before it was expected to win a single thing and without expectations and I liked it a lot.
Flee should have won something though. I really liked Summer of Soul, Drive My Car and Encanto but I'd have wanted it to beat one of them tbh.
